Ordered late night sushi to-go. My flight came in late and I was so glad this place was still open and available on Ubereats for me to order on my way from Newark Liberty to my hotel. Everything was pretty good. I ordered the Cali roll, salmon Naruto, cloud 9 roll and uni and squid sashimi. Everything was pretty fresh. I also ordered a side of steamed broccoli. I would order from this place again. I felt so bad for the uber delivery person as he was on his bike in single digit temps. It took him awhile but I understood. read more

Got a ton of stuff. The Sushi for 2 which came with a Rainbow Roll, Dragon Roll, 12 pieces of Nigiri, and Miso Soup. Also ordered two additional rolls: the Magic Roll and Heart Throb roll. Fav out of all of them was the Heart Throb for sure, the sauce they put on it was awesome. The others were pretty good, and Nigiri was fresh. read more

I think this may be my favorite sushi spot, especially since they allow us to bring our small dog inside as long as he stays in his bag. The food is good here. I usually get the Salmon Teriyaki but I was so hungry and I forgot to take a photo this time around haha. Good thing I have my photo from our first visit. I also got the Cloud 9 roll + miso soup, and we drank hot tea since it's been so cold out. My boyfriend always gets their Rainbow roll, and he got the salmon steak w garlic sauce. Also, inside the restaurant is a waterfall at the entrance door which is my favorite. We have now been here twice! Once back in June 2024, and the 2nd time on NYE, 12/31/2025. Service is great, I called ahead of time to check if they would be open normal business hours and I'm so glad they were! We'll definitely come again. read more

This is the chef's sushi from Asuka in Chelsea it's $52. You get ten pieces of nigiri, miso soup and a roll. This roll was a special one that comes with this dish. I called them to ask about it. And when I first opened the container. I was a little weary. But this was actually really good. The nigiri pieces were a little tiny, but I really like the assortment, otoro, squid seared salmon and I usually don't like rolls like this with all the hoopla, but I quite liked this one. It had lean tuna and white tuna I think. Really adequate too. I was quite full after this. My overview is that the sushi is quite good, but the udon is very disappointing. I got the sushi and sashimi platter (excellent) as well as some hand rolls. All of the sushi had good texture and freshness, as well as pretty plating. The chicken udon on the other hand...I should've taken a photo. It was basically plain chicken broth with boiled chicken, mushrooms, and cabbage. It bore no resemblance to udon besides the noodles and was quite bland. Unfortunately I can't recommend the udon here, but will shout out that it is worth coming if you're only looking to order sushi read more

I like that this place is near the subway and SVA and that I can get food after 10:00. My most recent experience was less great. The bartender was shouting at someone and really intrusive to the customers nearby. I'm not sure why the wait staff seated everyone so close to the bar. Also, there was a chemical smell throughout. The food though is well priced and we were happy with what we ordered (three sets of rolls for me and a salmon salad for my friend). read more

I usually order their salmon teriyaki and their 3 roll lunch special (2 salmon avocado roll, 1 eel avocado). The food in restaurant and take-out is fresh and filling. Asuka Sushi is a good location to hunker down and catch up with an old friend. Their service is attentive, but not overly chatty which I personally enjoy. I got the dinner shrimp tempura bento box which was very satisfying. I fancy myself someone who has quite the appetite and I just barely finished it. It's great for an indecisive person like myself since it has a great variety. We made a reservation but on a week day, that's not really necessary. It was lively but not crowded. I reserve 5 stars for a place that is truly special. But this was was wonderful. No complaints at all. Went there early on a Thursday. We had a reservation, but definitely wouldn't have needed one at 5, although by 6 it was full. They have Tamari sauce for the gluten free peeps like myself. It's a basic but pretty place. The staff was great. Food was fast. And everything we had was perfect. I had the oshi tashi (spinch app) and the miso eggplant. SO good. I had a naruto roll, gorgeous. And a hand roll. All expertly done. And my friend had some gorgeous rolls and apps too. (I would skip the store-bought shumai.) Even the tempura was crispy, non-greasy and light (no, not GF). Lunch options are great and just the right amount. Bento box option also come with green salad and miso soup. Staff was effective and my food arrived in good timing. The place was spacious with a dining area, a mini bar area and a little sushi bar as well. Great little lunch spot. My only pet peeve was discovering actual finger prints on my spicy salmon & avocado roll . I did not like that at all. read more

This is a review of the takeout food. I have eaten at Asuka for several years and I've always found their sushi. Excellent, especially at their price point. I ordered in sushi this evening by delivery and was severely disappointed. The miso soup wasn't it up to the standard of the restaurant. I also ordered two pieces of freshwater eel sushi that reflected a lack of care in their preparation. One piece was particularly gnarled and oversized for the rice. I have always patronized Asuka over the last several years because I think they manage to straddle price and quality well. However, this order was a severe disappointment. read more

Came here for an event and this place was packed. We had a reservation for 6 people but we didn't get seated until 20 minutes past our reservation time. The venue is medium sized and can cater to bigger parties. It's nice that they don't rush you out, but it was a bit frustrating that we weren't seated for so long having had a reservation. For food, I ordered the sushi deluxe which comes with 9 pieces of nigiri, roll, and salad. It was decently priced and the fish was fresh. Overall, the staff was friendly and had a good time even with the hiccup. P.S. they also will provide separate checks if you need to order separately read more

Went here for dinner recently. The food was okay overall and the prices were pretty reasonable for a Japanese restaurant. The environment, however was much louder than I personally prefer. I ordered some salmon sushi and sashimi, didn't taste off or strange, but my stomach didn't feel great later that night. Not sure if it was the fish or just coincidence, so take that as you will. Nothing was terrible, but nothing really stood out enough for me to come back. Probably wouldn't visit again. read more

I loved this place!! The sushi is so good and fresh. The food comes out quickly. The staff is friendly. The food is extremely well priced too! Highly recommend!! I got a bento box with sashimi and was stuffed. For $24 you get so much good stuff: a California roll, soup, tempura etc. the sashimi was plentiful, decent sized cuts, and very tasty. My go to Sushi place luckily located in my apt building! Been going for the 14 years I've lived here - I give my phone # and get my foos order! My order. Avocado salad. Love their gonger dressing! Eel + avocado roll basic but excellent Tri color sashimi really fresh fish. I Love how busy they always are makes me feel like the fish is fresher! Everything I've had I've liked. Not cheap but not crazy expensive either. Efficient not fawning service. Enjoy! read more

Greeted and seated right away in this beautiful, spacious restaurant. Me and my husband both ordered the Sashimi bento box and it was more than adequate and full of the freshest sashimi. It came with Miso soup and salad which were both very fresh. My miso soup had a lot of crushed miso in it and I appreciated all that salty flavor as clear beoth is not my favorite. Nice ambience, good drinks, decent service and OK food Loved the drinks - we tried Black Collar and Purple Rain. I loved the combination of rosemary and pineapple juice with the whiskey in my Black Collar drink. The veggie rolls were OK. Fried rice was OK as well, but the quantity was questionably small. I wasn't super impressed with the food for the price point. Attentive service. It is a small place, so tight as is common for most places in NYC and can get crowded even on weekdays, so do book ahead if you can. The place is worth a try. The staff is phenomenal, all of them. I sat at the sushi bar. The sushi chefs are very serious and NEVER smile. I had the. Yellowtail belly, salmon belly, and toro Nigiri/sushi to start. Doing a lot of pick-up's lately as this season of life is diff. I'd def love to try this place again for dine-in. Ordered, spicy tuna, spicy salmon. My friend made a last minute reservation here and it was an amazing dinner. The staff was so sweet, the food was good, and the prices were very fair. We got the Sashimi deluxe ($28), Sushi Combo C ($21), Chirashi ($28), and a Dragon Roll ($15.50). We all liked each of our dishes and were very full with the large portion sizes. I had the chirashi and was impressed with how high quality and fresh the fish tasted. I'm from Seattle so i'm pretty picky when it comes to sushi, but Asuka did not disappoint. This is a great venue for a date or even larger parties as well. It's dimly lit which gives a "fancier" vibe to it but it's a great place for a dinner with friends. I will definitely be coming back to try more of their dishes! read more

Decent sushi. Nothing too special. I tried the avocado sushi roll, salmon roll, and yellowtail sushi roll. They were from 6.50 to 8 per 6 roll. The service wasn't that great and the sushi was average. I think you could find same quality for cheaper if you wanted to. read more

Made a reservation here and was immediately seated on a weeknight after work. Their sets are such good value. I got sashmi which was served in very generous portions. Came with tempura, rice, seaweed and soup. It was overall a very large portion size. Ambiance was good for a conversation. Servers seemed a bit annoyed to have to deal with us shortly before close as I think they were hoping to usher people out and close down maybe a little early. One the one hand I get it, on the other hand you've got two paying customers on a slow night.

The decor is a homage to the works of Nikola Tesla, which can be seen in the subtle electric theme throughout the space and the naming of the cocktails. The space isn't too large - the bar and stools take up most of the space but they also have some booths/tables. The place looks great. The cocktail menu is very creative - I got one of their seasonal mixes that was actually two drinks in one. The main cocktail was meant to be sipped first and they provided a small glass of beer to be sipped after. The name escapes me but it was very good. Since we had cocktails at dinner, we only stayed for one round. Service was good, and overall I enjoyed my time at Patent Pending. I would definitely return to explore more of their menu.
