Also, the prices are reasonable for the experience. The 1st time I went here I had a quail which was delicious and enjoyed a crisp Riesling wine. For dessert I had the crème brûlée was pretty good. That time I went as a party of 3, but it was good we added a couple to make a party of 5. The next time I had the seafood bouillabaisse with some honey chamomile tea. The soup was delicious and the tea was presented well (tasted fine). Everyone appeared to enjoy their meal quite a bit. I tried the beef which was also delicious while the pork was a bit dry (still tasty). Overall, I highly recommend this place for a nice dinner (I'd totally have a romantic date here).

I was pleasantly surprised that when we were able to get a table without reservations at one of my favorite bistros in Heidelberg, on a Thursday night at that. Firstly rule, if you want to eat at Le Coq is make a reservation. Being able to walk in and get a table is like trying to win the Lotto, it doesn't happen often but you are very happy when it does. Naturally, the place was packed and we sipped a very good Sauvignon Blanc from the open wine list and chatted, while waiting for our main courses. Our food came and both my friend, J., and I realized that our fish with champagne sauce and spinach was terribly undersalted. No problem, we both grabbed the salt shaker a few times and added some salt to our meal. No complaining going on here, just a few joking comments about the cook definantly not being in love. Time to pay and the very nice waiter asks us how the food was people he asked am I supposed to say good if it is undersalted. Hmmmm?! So we mentions that the fish entree could have used more salt. Is that really so terrible? Hmmmm?! Didn't think so until the manager came over smelling like stale smoke and berates, yes berates, us for my comment. Telling me that I know nothing about making delicate champagne sauce and feeding 100's of people a night. (Hey, who knows maybe the other 100 people thought the fish was undersalted. Do I know?) I gently try to let him know that I was asked how the food was and mentioned it was undersalted, no crime on my part and hey, I am still the customer and paying a good EUR 20,00 for my dish. Do I deserve this kind of attitude from the manager? So anyways, now that I have vented, I feel better. I still love the french bistro Le Coq in Neuenheim, but I hope the manager has a better day the next time I eat there and the cook uses a bit more salt. Hey, but that is just my opinion.

Finally got to Bodega to be greeted warmly, English menus provided once the waiter picked up that our German was less than ideal. I pondered switching over to speaking Spanish, but didn't want to confuse things any more. Had some nice German wine and a collection of tapas - everything was excellent. Didn't get to the main plates (I'm a sucker for tapas) so I can't comment on the offerings there. Dessert (I'm a sucker for that, too) was good - we got a flan and crema catalaña with a sweet sherry. Desserts were decent, but had room for improvement. Would happily go back and recommend this to anybody looking for a change from the great German food in town.

Service was great as we had at least 2 servers catering to our needs. We shared the tapas plate special for 2, and we like it a lot. A fair selection (consisting of artichokes, sardines, olives, seafood salad--love that!, etc), but be aware that it serves mostly as an appetizer as the portion per person was not so big. I had the "Sepia a la Plancha" (grilled squid), and to my surprise (usually I am skeptical about seafood quality in southern Germany), it was fresh and cooked nicely. My friend got the seafood special for 2 (consisting of several types of fish, shrimps, mussels, squid), and they also thought it was cooked nicely. Since our main dishes all come with salad, the servers just brought a huge bowl of salad for us to share. I'm a fan of family-styled dining, so that was a plus for me. Portions for the entree were big, so we had no room left for dessert (sigh...). The meal was on a pricier end, but for a special occasion, one cannot go wrong with Bodega. Tip: If you want to try their Paellas, you would need to make the order much earlier (either a day before or when they open for the day).

Nevertheless, we occasionally wanted to check for some flights&hotels, but we had no space for our laptop. But that was ok after we found out that there wasn't the free WiFi that is described here. Also the pricing was a bit higher than usually, but maybe because of the higher costs they have to pay in this beautiful city, Heidelberg. PS: the Chili Chocolate is fire. Then he came outside, placed a sign in front of our table that said they weren't open until 5pm. He said nothing and gave a mean look. Overall, he was extremely rude and we recommend spending your money somewhere. Unbelievably rude & will not return.
