Plastic place mats, tavern themed art, and a rustic olde world feel. It's perfect for an area with uneven stone and brick roadways that are best enjoyed with sturdy shoes or boots. There is also an outdoor patio for al fresco dining when the weather permits. The meal was tasty but the starter bread was just okay. There were two types offered: soft rye and breadsticks. The breadsticks were as dry as a bone and I couldn't bring myself to taste one but the rye bread was soft and delicious. I would have preferred butter with the bread but it turned out that the rye bread was quite tasty on its own. The roasted rabbit with red and white cabbage was delicious and I would order this again. It was #42 on the menu and should have come with a "variety of dumplins" but since I also ordered a side of boiled potatoes, the server must have thought I wanted the potatoes *instead* of the dumplings. Not true. I wanted both! Anyway, the rabbit was perfectly roasted and seasoned. The cabbage was unlike any cabbage I've ever tasted. I actually ordered the side of boiled potatoes expecting some lame cabbage concoction to be staring back at me from my plate. Instead, I saw two thick, gravy-like preparations on my plate: one a rich purpley-red and the other creamy white. They were sweet and favorful and the perfect complement to the roasted rabbit. The svickova was delicious. The bread dumplings were soft and thick and the gravy was scrumptious. Service was just okay and although we spoke English since I hadn't yet downloaded my Google offline Czech translator, both servers did their best to speak to us in English. However, the menu includes 4 translations for every item which is extremely helpful. My one complaint would be my missing "variety of dumplins" and my missing server for nearly the entire meal. I wanted to ask about my dumplings but our server didn't return until we had finished our meals. Overall, I would say that the food was close to 4 stars but the service may have been lacking...possibly due to a language barrier. I'll take the service on the chin since I don't speak Czech and round the entire rating up to 4 stars.

The veggies were actually the best part of the meal, and that's saying a lot, because I'm not much of a veggie eater! :) But then generally the produce in Europe is far superior to what we get in the States! Foie gras was seared to perfection, but the accoutrements were just mediocre. One of our fish we had was turbot, and this is one of the easier fish to debone. However, with every annoying bite of the fish, I had to pick out a bone! Absolutely unacceptable! The staff weren't particularly friendly, but this is typical of Czech so I wasn't too offended. LOL We were having a good time with our group so slow service was not too bothersome either. The bill came to $200 per person, which is not too bad IF the food was great. We were in the neighborhood and dropped in to see if they could seat us. There was some hesitation on the part of the staff, but we were eventually seated to an empty restaurant. As our meal progressed, the restaurant did fill up quite a bit, thanks in large part to a large party with a celebratory event. We decided to go with the Degustation Menu (~$50), which included 10 courses and an intermezzo. I must say that the table setting is quite impressive and very forbidding. The meal started off with a tomato sorbet with basil. This was a refreshing way to start of the meal, as the acidity of the tomato made your taste buds dance. Next was Salted Duck Breast with sea buckthorn gel, cantaloupe and balsamic vinegar. The duck was cooked to a nice medium rare, but the dish was served on the colder side so the full flavor of the duck was somewhat muted. Next was the classic combination of Prosciutto and Melon. The prosciutto appeared to be a little dried out, but still had that salty, fatty goodness that was mellowed out by the melon which was just slightly under ripe. Creamy corn soup with crayfish, lemongrass and quinoa was next. The addition of lemongrass added a Southeast Asian twist. It added a nice citrus accent to the soup and mellowed out the crayfish. Up next was a Black Tortellini with seafood and saffron cream. The tortellini was way too thick, and made it very dense and chewy. It unfortunately had a rather unpleasant texture. Grilled Foie Gras with miso, orange and sweet potatoes was the next course. The foie gras was grilled nicely to render out some of the fat and provide a textural contrast to the buttery inside. The miso provided a salty, umami punch while the orange and sweet potato helped to control the richness of the dish. Veal Sweetbreads with white carrot puree, blood sausage, nuts and Shimeji mushrooms was served next. The sweetbreads were overcooked and a little tough, while the carrots added a touch of sweetness. The blood sausage was a little dry but overall good. The Shimeji mushrooms added another layer of earthiness to the dish. The intermezzo was calamansi and lime. While providing a nice citrus punch to reawaken the taste buds, it was a little too sweet overall for an intermezzo. Halibut was next which was served with chickpeas, barley, chives, tomato and garlic chips. The halibut remained moist and meaty, while the chickpeas and barley provided some earthiness to the dish. The garlic chips were very pronounced, and seemed to overpower the dish. Next was Wild Board Osso Bucco with Jerusalem artichoke puree. The wild boar had a nice gaminess to it, while the Jerusalem artichoke several ways provided earthiness and a little sweetness to the dish. Finally, dessert consisted of Blackberry Cheesecake, which was semi-deconstructed as the crust was crumbled onto the top of the dessert. The cheesecake was on the lighter side. The blackberries were sharply tangy which help offset the sweetness from the cheesecake. The restaurant is perhaps the nicest restaurant in all of Brno, both in design and ambition. Service was somewhat rushed and uncaring. It appeared that since we did not have a reservation that they wanted us out of there as quickly as possible. The menu serves some risky dishes such as sweetbreads and foie gras, which are things many people shy away from. The overall meal was pretty good, but there were too many missteps in preparation and cooking that prevented this meal from being great to excellent.

Additionally, it was conveniently next to the concert hall we were heading. What we got in the end was a surprise for all of us. First of all, the atmosphere inside was unique. From the chairs, tables to the wall decorations, you can tell this place held on to an appearance without making it seem like they are kicking off a trend. We were lucky to find a table for us because the whole place was packed till the concert time. I am not sure if it is always packed during the evenings or if the concert nearby helped add to the fire. The menu clearly stood out as unique. They had a few traditional Czech meals but there was also the additional main stream burgers, steaks, etc offered. These mainstream meals were given a twist of its own. There was either a different sauce to what you'd expect or brought together with side-dish you would not normally choose. The meals were all outstanding. If you are in Brno with a group of friends, head out here for an evening of drinks and meal. I can assure you, you will not be disappointed and will remember this place along with the towns sights.
