I really loved the location, which is perfect to visit during a day of sightseeing or as a stop between exploring Helsinki. Personally, I enjoyed the café more than the restaurant. While it isn't fine dining, the café offers healthy, simple dishes and a great variety of local favorites. The restaurant has a good selection of menu options; however, aside from the reindeer dish, I found the other items to be quite salty. The service throughout our visit was very good.

And Karl Fazer is famous for being a chocolatier, so Fazer chocolate is a must try, too. Fortunately for me, Karl Fazer Cafe was located right across from my hotel, so I had easy access to chocolate and coffee here. The cafe was very popular, and what's nice is that they are open the entire day, serving meals or something lighter. They also have a chocolate shop on one side of the cafe that you can grab and go. For one of my visits here, I tried the geisha dessert, which is a specialty, along with a Fazer mocha. They were both good, and I was pleasantly surprised that the geisha dessert was a mix of chocolate and hazelnut since the lilac color threw me off, so was afraid it would be a fruity dessert. But it turned out to be better than expected. Another visit, I tried the cinnamon bun, which was solid. It wasn't the best in town, but solid - and definitely better than anything I'd ever get back home. If you're in Helsinki, Karl Fazer is a name you'll hear - and you'll need to try the famous chocolate and pay a visit to the first cafe of the country. It's easily walking distance to many sites as it's in the city center, and has outdoor seating. Glad to have checked out a place of Finnish history.

It's cold here, and coffee warms you right up! It's also why Finland is the happiest country in the world. This place serves up fresh coffee drinks, juices, pastries, sandwiches and salads. I opted for the Honduran Obscura coffee, which was nice, light, and aromatic. It came in a giant mug that got me going. There's some seating with chairs at a little table, and a bunch of stools to sit on that look uncomfortable if you're trying to work on something. There's also a bunch of window seating, which was more comfortable that the other options. It's nice that they have so many outlets around here for all your gadgets. I didn't check to see if they had Wifi. The service was warm, and friendly. They took the time to explain the different roasts that they offered, and even offered samples. I didn't try the food, but it looked fresh and delicious. They also sell a limited array of coffee making options, like French presses or pour over devices. It's a shame that Kahvi Charlotta doesn't have a drink called the "Charlatte."

The Finns drink more coffee per capita than any other country in the world. I've heard on average, for every man, woman and child in Finland, it's nearly a pound of beans a week. I can see why here- it's cooold! I ducked into this coffee shop to escape a blizzard of snow. The flakes coming down were the size of euro coins, and I was freezing! Fortunately, they offer large- really, really large coffees. I lol'd when I saw the large cup- it wasn't a cup, it's a cereal bowl. They offered three different roasts, it seems a light, mid, and dark roast. I got the Cuban coffee- where I'm from, we're not allowed to drink authentic Cuban coffee- yet. The setup and decor here reminds me of Central Perk from Friends. It's got big, comfy couches, where a bunch of people can get together, or if you want your privacy, there's seats alone. The service here was warm and friendly. They smirked when I told them that this Texan had never had real Cuban coffee. They were happy to offer tastes of the various roasts before making my selection. It's a cool place to get out of the cold, and grab something energizing! Get in on Finland's coffee culture.

Inside can seat about 20-30 people. Once you go in, you select what you want from the window. They charge by the weight, so you can mix multiple salads and more than one meat dish at once. They also serve soup. The food I had was delicious. I also had pancakes with berries in that dinner. It was a wonderful experience. I wanted to go back again the next day but my cruise from Tallinn did not arrive until 6pm which was too late. Highly recommended!
