The pacing of the tour was perfect, not too slow, not too strenuous. It is obvious that JF is deeply knowledgable about urbanism, bicycle culture, and the way our built environment impacts our experiences of life. The details he pointed out and the places he brought us are easily overlooked, but super interesting. It is rare to find someone who takes so little for granted in their home environment. This tour was not just a lesson about history and some neighborhoods of Montréal, but about how to observe the world around us. I would give six stars if possible. It did not hurt that the weather was perfect. If it had rained, probably only five stars. It was a fantastic three hours and a highlight of our visit to MTL.

We took about three hours because he made a point of showing us some classic Montreal native spots such as an immense farmers market filled with luscious locally grow produce. If we were staying long enough to cook, I'd be heading straight back there tomorrow . Frederick is a certified guide and while his knowledge is near encyclopedic, he never drones. He always invites questions and made us laugh a lot. Ask him how poutine got its name. He created a perfect blend of peddling and savoring He spaced out our rest stops in such a way that we were never bored with resting and nor fatigued with pedaling.

And they told me to use a phone to call someone, and that someone forwarded me to their colleague, who is apparently a voicemail machine. The only better part about the second group is that they told me bixi doesn't exist anymore. Those were the highest rated places around. Well there was one more place nearby, so figured to give it a shot. Finally came here, and guess what? They .. rent bikes. $15 for 4 hrs. Very reasonable. Great bike, it was a Norco. Rode all around Mount Royal and it was a breeze. Brought it back, no hassle. Don't bother with the other guys, who may or may not have bikes and don't even know where to refer you. These guys will take care of you. They have lots of bikes and the guys seem to know what they're doing. Highly recommended.

We wandered into Bicycletterie JR without any reservations or anything, and within 15 minutes we were on the road. They gave us instructions for the bikes and hooked us up with locks and helmets and we were off! They were super flexible about when we returned the bikes so we didn't have to get locked into a particular time to return. The bikes were in great shape and we had a lovely afternoon. HINT: If you ride down Rue La Genesse to the Prairies River and turn north you're in a protected bike lane the whole way and then you get to bike paths and lanes that go through nature reserves, parks, and cute little neighborhoods. We did 25 miles (40km) without ever being off a bike lane or path.

I downloaded the Application on the spot and entered my credit card. Then I looked over the many bikes available and picked one out and used the App to unlock it. I rented a BIXI down at the waterfront and road it for 2.5 hours from there over a couple of bridges to the islands that have the Biosphere, the Casino, and the Formula One Racetrack. I road the BIXI around the circumference of the formula one racetrack--slowest bike on the track but it was a ton of fun. Then over to the entrance to the Casino and over and around the Biosphere and back to downtown Montreal. The total cost was only about $10 US. It was one of the most memorable parts of my trip.

The mechanic called me 30 minutes after I left the bike and told me the bike was ready; the derailer needed to be adjusted (chain kept falling off). $15. The service I got was the best one I ever got, the guy looked at my bike, told me what he think is the problem and exactly how it will cost. I felt like I was bringing a car and getting a price evaluation. Also unlike other places that first told me "leave the bike and come back later" this time they said right away, sit down and we will fix it right away (maybe since its just the beginning of the bike season and they have time). Anyway great fast service, a little pricey usually its around 14-15$ since the tube lone is 6$ they charged me almost 18$ after adding tax) but overall great expirience...altough next time I really should fix it myself :)

I held off on a negative review for nearly a year, giving the benefit of the doubt. I purchased a Schindelhauer bike from them and the online payment system calculated purchase and shipping (great price). This was a mistake with the payment system and I called the next day and we figured out shipping. The bike arrived damaged unfortunately. I took dozens of photos and tried to submit to ups directly. Unfortunately a damage claim has to be submitted by the shipper. This involved UPS and a shipping company they use called freightcom. Velo lifestyles blamed freightcom, so I reached out to freightcom.... They blamed velo... you see where this is going. Keep in mind this is nearly a year into this! I had an unusable bike until the manufacturer actually sent me a fender to mount. I originally had tried to bend the damage away from the tire to make the bike usable. I give credit to Schindelhauer for providing the part... it really wasn't their issue. Velo put it off so long I emailed Germany and got it myself! They now claim that they no longer ship to the United States due to shipping issues. I would avoid purchasing from this company due to a shady handling of the shipping claim. They seem nice on the phone and might be a good option if you pick up in person. I can speak to my experience with them. I would avoid any business that won't support their customers or stand behind a sale.

All I know, the cafe has a bike hanging on the wall. The place took me by surprise; it is a boutique of bikes and its accessories. Plus they repair the bikes too. When you enter deep into the boutique, on the left hand side, there is the coffeeshop. It's an interesting concept. While your bike is being repaired, have a cup of coffee! While you shop around for a bike, have a cup of coffee. The clerk/server was really sweet; she gave us tour of the shop and our lattes. It was bit bitter for my taste, but I was enjoying too much the place itself. We got to meet the owner, who showed his special bicycle that he used it to across Canada! Very impressive!
