wow, what a journey! firstly, i flew some 10501.2km!…read moresecondly, i walked some 0.7km(yes, unfortunately i didn't bring my bicycle) thirdly, i climbed SOME flights of stairs to the top of the building. finally, i arrived but only to find my journey just beginning! atelier molenpad is gezellig! the oft overuse adjective that i've come to be acquainted with during my short stay. but gezellig is a word that encompasses the heart of dutch culture. and cosy or inviting is also exactly how you will feel, right here. it somehow reminded me of an overturned ark. being trapped yet liberated. a journey into the unknown. daniella is genuinely friendly and accommodating. a mentor that will guide you in your journey, finely balancing to allow you the space to grow and discover. with her, it's never about the physical end product. with her, it's about letting it flow without thinking what end result you want to achieve. your true intuitive self expression. the end result might well turn out like the mess i created but hey only when i die, will you then know, the true value of my masterpiece, right?:) so why not a 5 star review? hmmmm you made me dirty my 5 finger tips and i hate getting hands dirty?!:) but seriously, if i'm not some 10501.2km away, i would definitely, constantly be embarking on one journey or another in this ark!

Located in a lovely Amsterdam building high in the attic, that is were the atelier is hidden away. It looks like it has been there for ages and well, it has, almost 40 years this place is used for painting. I did a workshop here about a week ago and it was very inspiring and also a lot of fun. Your teacher, host and guide on your creative journey is the lovely Daniella and she sure does a great job. My son attended this school for the 12-week production lessons in April 2016 and according to his…read moreown words had an amazing experience! He learned how to produce a track start to finish. This included using equalizers to add head-room to your song, how to use synthesizers to make his own sounds, how to structure and master songs, how to use audio samples, how to layer sounds, how to use compression/sidechain compression, routing, how to use distortion and saturation to add perceived loudness, and much more (I can,t even understand what I'm writing LOL) He also got the chance to DJ on a boat during King's Festival and was invited by Boris, the school owner, to the Summer Energy Festival in Amersfort! The teachers were very professional, knowledgable and flexible some times even allowing him to stay some extra time practicing his lessons at school. He even became really good friends with his teacher! Boris was also very helpful during the entire process from our very first conversation to suggesting places for my son to live in and even inviting him to his house for a family farewell dinner and ride to the airport on his way back home. They have the Crea Orchestra, made up of students studying subjects other than music but who want to play in an ensemble. You can also rent the studios for a not too terribly expensive fee to rehearse with your ensemble/band. Technically at least one person in the group is supposed to be a student but there are ways around that rule if you're determined I've come to Crea several times for rehearsals, and also once for an improv comedy show. There are regularly shows and concerts in both the theater and the Crea cafe.

Crea is a really nice place to follow all kind of creative courses in your free time. Which I also love are their summer classes. You follow a intensive 1-week course and even eat there and go to theme nights. Vergeet Stedelijk want er hangt toch niets dat je nog niet kent. Nee hier doe je ontdekkingen van kunstenaars die in de komende jaren golven gaan maken. De tentoonstellingen die hier te zien zijn variëren van groeps en thema's tot aan solo's van bekende en onbekende namen. Soms wat diepgravend maar altijd interessant. Nooit een vaste tentoonstelling maar elke twee tot drie maanden iets anders. Ook de moeite waard zijn de publieke events en lezingen. Voor de ware hedendaagse kunstliefhebber geeft dit nog meer verdieping en informatie. Rondleidingen zijn er op woensdag en zondag om 15.00. Gratis en voor niets, dus stap eens in.
