I've been a patient of Dr. Curtis's for the past 3 months and I am amazed at her intuitiveness, her compassion and her knowledge of how to deal with complex health issues. I am a nutrition nerd who reads and studies up on food as medicine, but after years of VERY stressful life situations and trying to self manage my diet, I was still lethargic and moody, even with a squeaky clean diet (no grains, no sugar, no diary). Many of us know that when you can't fix things yourself through diet, there's likely something else going on. It was time to see a doctor who practices functional medicine. Around this time, I also learned that my sister has a specific genetic mutation that could impact my health, so I threw that on the agenda. I arrived at the office with a list of things I needed her input on. She took time to sit with me, review the very detailed medical history questionnaire and listen to what was going on. She was careful and thorough during our visit. She spent an entire hour and a half with me - reviewing my history. No interruptions. No sitting in a room for 45 minutes waiting to speak to the doctor. Me and Dr. Curtis - discussing my issues one on one for over an hour. Who does that anymore? No one. It's not surprising that this level of treatment comes at a cost. Functional doctors can be pricey, but I knew that beforehand. I was also prepared to pay out of pocket if need be as insurance may not cover some of the tests or supplements. My health and the knowledge I gain by working with Dr. Curtis is worth any amount I pay. I am learning how to cope with the stresses of life - what supplements help me in which ways. Which foods work well for my body and which result in negative consequences. My father died young of a sudden heart attack and I am convinced that had I not seen Dr. Curtis, learned the details of my genetic makeup and what lifestyle modifications I needed to make - I would end up with the same fate. The fees I pay for office visits, diagnostic tests and the like are investments in MY health. I'm taking control of my health vs. resorting to pharmacutical remedies and I believe that this investment is worth every penny. I am so very grateful to Dr. Curtis for the work that she does. I can tell by her demeanor that she is doing this work from her heart. She is mindful of the cost of the supplements that she recommends. For example, I was on a 21 day gut rebuilding diet which necessitated a specialized protein powder supplement that was expensive. After the 21 days were up, she and I discussed what to do with the leftover powder and she recommended I use the rest up for meal replacements since it would be wasteful to throw it out and she'd hate for me to lose the $ I'd spent buying it. She also gives samples of supplements to try to make sure it will work with your body composition before you purchase a full bottle. I could not ask for more in a doctor than what Dr. Curtis provides. She is knowledgable, compassionate and she listens. She's not rushing you out of the office because she has to see 5 patients an hour. She is there for you during your appointment time. Her attention is focused on you and your needs. If this is the type of doctor - patient relationship you're looking for, look no further. I recommend AFM and Dr. Curtis to anyone with health challenges. I am a customer for life! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Ashley Walker personally for over 6 months and met Dr. Purvi Shah at a conference back in September and they are elite level practitioners. Both are so welcoming, ready and willing to listen and genuinely care about helping you feel your best. They are quick to respond to messages through the portal and the staff on site and on the phone are very nice and personable. As a health practitioner myself, I'm extremely discerning of who I work with and don't trust many, so this practice has been a welcome change for me. read more

I did not feel great about my first and only appointment with Atlanta Functional Medicine. I was caught off guard when two staff trainees were a part of my appointment and I was not asked if I was comfortable with this as a new patient. The nurse practioner leading my appointment spent a great deal of time talking with the two trainees and I did not feel like I was getting the full value of our time together. I understand training has to happen but I would have appreciated being asked or given advance warning about this as I have been with my primary care practice. Additionally, I was discouraged that the tech taking blood was unable to - she could not access a vein and told me she had to stop trying after so many attempts. I was instructed that I would need to schedule another time to come back to have my blood drawn. I have never experienced anything like this before and found it quite frustrating. I did not schedule a second appointment and lost quite a bit of money out of pocket for such a disappointing experience. read more

I was so lucky to find Atlanta Functional Medicine about two years ago. Dr. Elizabeth Board is absolutely so amazing and just the best! I have been going to integrative medicine doctors for many years but they all just stick their heads in the office, talk to you for five minutes and on to the next patient. I've tried to make an appointment 3 times. Finally was told New Patient coordinator doesn't work everyday. Furthermore, I have to fill out a form and then the part-time new patient coordinator would contact me to let me know if I would be accepted in the practice. Astounding! I'm willing to spend thousands of dollars out of pocket and can't even get in the door? Is this common? I did the 7systems plan with Dr. Lee. I also saw her for labs and varies health problems no doctors have been able to figure out. Not only have I been losing weight but I have my life back energy wise. I truely think her and Kim the health coach saved my life. I literally feel like a new person. I went from zero energy and never losing weight to feeling better than I ever have in my life and dropping weight healthfully. She knows her stuff. She found two things doctors have missed for decades. It's worth the money and they do everything they can to work with your insurance and let you know up front any costs. read more

Giving an unfavorable review is something I take very seriously. I know there are jobs and livelihoods dependent on any business and I try to never criticize anyone for minor inconveniences or personality conflicts. So, I am writing this because of serious concerns that I think patients of this practice should know about. I was a patient of Dr. Board in 2019 and I am still being contacted for "unpaid" bills by the outside labs she used for my bloodwork. For the first visit, I was told upfront what costs to expect and paid 100% of the agreed upon amount. I specifically discussed having any future bloodwork sent to LabCorp or Quest as these labs are in my insurance network and I am certain Dr. Board agreed to that. For the next follow up visit I had more blood drawn and was told I didn't owe her office anything since it was just an appointment to draw blood. Fast forward to a few months later and I received a bill from an outside lab (Salveo, not in my ins network) for over $2,000 and I was responsible for the entire amount. I was completely blindsided. It took weeks and weeks of phone calls to AFM and Salveo to work this out. It was very difficult to find anyone at AFM or Salveo who would or could help me with this surprise billing. This incident was enough for me to decide to never go back to AFM. Now fast forward to current time....I am now receiving new phone calls and new bills from a collection agency claiming to represent True Health. This was the lab Dr. Board used at my first visit almost 3 years ago - the one where all the financial stuff was disclosed and agreed upon and I paid in full. I am super frustrated and wish I had never gotten involved with AFM. Even more disturbing to me is that when researching both of the labs I learned that they both went into bankruptcy and IMO do not seem like reputable businesses that I want to be associated with. I certainly do not want either of them to be in possession of my DNA (but they received vials of my blood and I should have been much more diligent in consenting to that matter). TLDR: when I was a patient at AFM they sent my bloodwork to labs that hit me with surprise billing and went into bankruptcy soon after. Ask ahead of time what labs AFM will use and research those companies before letting them have possession of your blood and billing info. read more

I have called numerous times..no answer, left voicemail's no response, emailed numerous times...got a generic response but have never heard from them. I will be looking for someone else bc if this is how you run your practice I don't want to be your patient. read more

Dr Board is amazing. Not only is she extremely friendly and empathetic (a rarity among doctors these days), but she's incredibly thorough and knowledgeable. I've been to her for 2 separate issues over the last 7 years or so, and she has been dead on with her diagnosis both times, even before the tests came back. She's very adept at dealing with complex metabolic issues and deficiencies and I recommend her to anyone who tells me they've made the rounds with doctors and don't know what's wrong with them. In fact, I'm bringing my mother up from FL to see her this summer. That being said, she's not a magician, so if you have a complex problem to fix, you have to be willing to put in the time and effort--that means making diet changes, taking supplements, exercising, etc. Pro tip: bring a recorder with you when going over test results. HUGE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! Save yourself the aggravation and don't bother with this place. I had high hopes when I walked in, but left there feeling like I had been completely ripped off and taken advantage of. I saw Dr. Curtis, who seemed to care less about me and was only forcing herself to be nice. She appeared to be interested only in making money for AFM and the laboratories they send their bloodwork to. She tried to push a bunch of supplements on me without even knowing if I needed them yet. Oh, and the $500 for the initial "consult" doesn't cover drawing blood. I was charged another $35 for the nurse to "draw blood". Unbelievable. I have never felt so ripped off by a "Dr" before. I decided to try functional medicine for my IBS that I have been suffering with for many many years. Dr. Lee was recommended to me by a neighbor that had seen her. I have never experienced such a personalized approach to my healthcare from any other doctor. I feel like the doctors before have been treating the symptoms but not the underlying cause of my issues. I have been following the advice and treatment options given to me by Dr. Lee and I have been feeling much better and not having as many episodes of IBS as I have in the past. I am not able to adhere to the full diet restrictions given to me yet because I have an upcoming cruise vacation and want to eat things that will be taken out of my diet once I get back. I've been seeing Dr. Board for almost two years and she is truly the most knowledgeable doctor who has ever treated me (and I've seen a LOT of doctors for my health issues).
