City of Shreveport - A sad reminder that the homeless include children. Looks like one used this wall as a classroom.

There is a lot to do other than casinos. The aquarium is so amazing. Reasonably priced and quite informative. Food options galore. There are several museums in the area that I look forward to seeing. Some very good restaurants. I am usually in the area for only a few weeks at a time each year. It is kind of a slow paced life here, but for the most part, all is good. This is one of those towns that I really hate that I like it because it just seems backwards in some ways.

Jimmie Davis Bridge aka The JDB - Major construction at the JDB due to be completed in 2027

The new bridge is scheduled to open in mid- to late 2027, after which the old bridge will be converted into a linear park. I've been on a few bridge parks . Some have food and craft vending. Most have scenic views. I doubt Jimmy Davis will ever be able to offer that. I'm sorry the bridge is getting painted. The rusty colors of sunset really appealed to me

I can now say with a smile I drove across the original Jimmie Davis Bridge over the Red River that…read morewas built in 1968 connecting Shreveport and Bossier City that is scheduled for renovations in early 2016. This is the latest of numerous delays that have plagued repairing this bridge which has long been ear marked as "Structurally deficient". Having said that there is no need to panic or take a detour, this doesn't mean a bridge is unsafe. It simply means one or more components of a bridge are in need of repairs or replacement. As an engineer I fully understand the need for refurbishment, not only for safety but also for preservation and after crossing this aging monument with its rusting riveted truss I was stunned to hear that this bridge is not considered to be "Historically Significant" and it's new purposed purple paint makeover will mask the nostalgic patina that gives this bridge such presence. (This is almost criminal) I would love to see this bridge preserved with a rust treating clear coat so it could look as it does now for a few more generations. So how is it that a bridge built using a long abandoned design that reflects the beauty of an era gone by can be anything but historically significant, especially one that carries the name of one of Louisiana's most popular governors known as the "singing governor" who rode a horse up the steps of the capital to go to work. Jimmie Davis Bridge is the southernmost of five bridges spanning the "Historic" Red River in the Shreveport-Bossier area and as I drove across it with my windows rolled down much as they did in the day I swore I heard the lyrics of this Jimmie Davis historically significant song... You are my sunshine, My only sunshine. You make me happy When skies are grey. You'll never know, dear, How much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away. Lastly I must thank the tiny federally protected "barn swallows" who call the underside of this bridge home for standing up to the bureaucracy and causing the delays in construction until I could experience this historic drive

This old building has been recently remodeled. It's a small footprint building, so there was not tons of square space to renovate, but they did a good job on what was there. The tile and walls were in great shape. The individual rooms had been updated, including the jury room, with a nice sink and cupboard. The grand old courtroom looked refurbished when I peeked in. My attorney friend says it had been abandoned for a long time and used for storage, so it is now back to the way it looked many years ago. They even updated the county clerk's record vault. the vault doors were repainted and they look great. Everyone working here was really nice. They helped me out with my needs and got me in and out in a jiff. I wish all courthouse experiences were this good.

A multimillion dollar grant was secured and more than a million dollars in local donations made up the difference to "Do it Right!" The historic courthouse has a rich history, researched by an enthusiastic committee to do something great for their home town and county. April 2, 1862, a company of 100 men gathered at this location to go fight with the 18th Texas Infantry, C.S.A. in the Civil War. Their mission was to keep the Union Army from taking northeast Texas. The Yankees were defeated by these men in the Red River Campaign. Another group of Union soldiers were sent from Little Rock to enter Texas from the northeast. Again the 18th prevailed, and Union forces never occupied northeast Texas.

This chase is the closest. I was told yes, bring him into a branch. I flew out, drove him over two hours. I open an acct. with my father on it. Before leaving I asked the banker. Will each of us receive our respective cards where we live, she says yes. I stop and clarify, my dad's will go to Arkansas? She says yes. He was there when I asked. 3 weeks later he does not receive his card. I go into my local chase branch.. as the main account holder I cannot order him a card. He calls the branch he went to, they will not issue him a card, because he is not the main account holder. They are now saying he has to make the trek back and request one in person. Mind you he has health issues and I had to fly to Texas, drive to Arkansas, pick him up, drive him to Texas, then back to Arkansas 2.5 hours each direction after picking him up. This is a terrible experience. They assured me so many times he would receive his card. I've been with this bank for so long and I am so very disappointed in how we have been mistreated and misled. I laughed and asked Dad where his money is if he doesn't have an account. I stepped outside to call my mom for the account number, and a couple minutes later, Dad walks out and said she found the account. Turns out, the account had Tony instead of Antonio and that did make all the difference. She continued to be condescending towards Dad and I. She was snarky and overall probably shouldn't be working customer service if she is that way with everyone. Do better, Michelle... and start wearing your name tag.
