What an amazing experience to take a boat ride where you meet the submarine and get a little history as well. The view is wonderful and so beautiful underwater. Pictures are taken and purchased after tour. Definitely an experience I would recommend while in Cozumel!

Don't let a lack of transportation and a rainstorm hinder your vacation! We went to our favorite "Excursion Travel" center located near our hotel in the "hotel zone" of Cancun, Mexico. Even though we didn't realize a storm was in our future, we chose to travel to Cozumel to take a tour on the "Atlantis Submarine". They arranged every detail of our whole day stay, just to go on this ride! A pleasant and friendly driver picked us up from our hotel at the "Krystal Cancun". The hour long drive through a heavy down pour made me worry that maybe we should have canceled our trip. But the driver was confident and reassuring that everything would be OK. When we arrived in Playa del Carmen, we were immediately met by our guide, Paul. He escorted us, "complete with an umbrella" to their main office located in a shopping mall. It appeared we were the only tourists going, so we got to spend quality time and have a nice conversation with Paul while we waited for the arrival of the "Ultamar" ferry to Cozumel. The ferry station was also located at the mall. He gave us our ferry tickets and had us wait in line for the ferry to pick us up. Because he was a tour guide, we had to go on the ferry separate, while he boarded through a separate entrance. The ferry ride was a nice and scenic ride that took about 30 minutes to drop us off to our next stop: the Atlantis ticket office and gift shop. Paul then proceeded to drive us to this colorful and fun shop/ticket office to hang out and souvenir shop while we waited for another boat that exclusively delivers us to the awaiting submarine. This boat is used by the cruise lines that dock in Cozumel for those tourists who want to go on the submarine also. It rained the whole time, but the experience was fun and exciting. When I saw that the Carnival ship "Triumph" was one of the ships in the port, I became very nostalgic and fond memories being on that very same ship with a dear friend back in 1993. My friend died in a tragic accident, so memories of my "cruise of a lifetime" came flooding back. After a 20 minute boat ride, we finally reached our goal! The Atlantis submarine in all it's glory! They gave us important instructions and safety tips before boarding. Then we stepped down into the submarine via a very steep stairwell. Our ride was completely booked with tourists, so seating in close quarters was a bit cramped. We each had a large port hole to gaze out into the ocean, complete with a fish identifier laminated guide. Because of the weather, the bottom was a little murky, but we were able to see scores of fish and plant life! My camera was not user friendly when it came time to take a quick photo under water, but acceptable in some instances. The ocean here is not like the colorful coral reefs with colorful fish like I was expecting one would see in TV documentaries. But it was still an exciting experience to catch string rays, sea turtles, schools of fish, and even a nurse shark as they came in to view! We also passed over a sunken ship. Every single employee from our nice driver, to our wonderful tour guide Paul, to the staff on the ferry, the boat ride, to the submarine, were friendly, fun and entertaining! You could tell that everyone enjoyed their jobs and liked people. It was never a dull moment! It even stopped raining long enough for Joe K and I to enjoy a short visit in Cozumel sight seeing and having a delicious lunch before we returned on the next ferry back to Cancun! This trip was one of the most memorable times of my vacation!

Imagine waking up to a monsoon outside. From your hotel room you can see waves crashing into the sea wall, spectacularly forcing explosions of water shooting 30 feet in the air. You step out into the hallway where the strong winds have blown the electric doors open and water is flowing down the hall. You traverse the two blocks of hallways between your room and the lobby to find a modern van patiently waiting to take you to the next town where you will board a ferry to your submarine ride. It continues to be blustery and rain pours down throughout the entire hour drive to the ferry. Someone is there to greet you at the van and walks you to your ferry that is getting tossed around by the waves in a way that reminds you of a wild stallion trying to be released from its ropes. You board the ferry and ride to an island with the waves crashing into the front of the ship so hard that the water flies over the upper deck which is closed to prevent anyone from being thrown overboard or washed into the sea. You nibble on candied ginger to settle your stomach and the seas calm as you approach the island where you catch a taxi to a boat launch that will take you to the submarine. Fortunately the seas are calm and you have a pretty pleasant ride out to where you descend through a hatch and down a set of rungs to the belly of a fairly large submarine. You sit sideways on a seat with a window in front of you while the submarine plunges to depths of up to 110 feet. You see lots of fish as you pass by various reefs while a voice over the boats speakers system expertly explains the species of fish you are observing and only too quickly you ascend again to the surface, climb back up through the hatch and return to the transport boat where they pour you glasses of mango juice and vodka for the trip back to the dock. Upon request, your guide recommends a restaurant to you that proudly serves some of the best Mexican seafood dishes you have ever had. You finish your meal and rush back to the ferry where the seas have calmed and you luxuriously ride back to an awaiting van that drops you back off at the door of your hotel. You ask yourself; "did that really just happen?" Atlantis, so mythical https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AUEjzVQwKo I would like to give a very special thanks to all of the employees of Atlantis that made this such an amazing experience. Especially our guide, Paul who made sure everything about our trip was truly first class. Thanks Paul!
My friend told me this was the best excursion to take in Cozumel. SO I booked it. On line tickets are cheaper to do in advance. The place is just a walk down the street from our port. So very easy. They spoke English and we had no problems checking in. They boated you out to where the submarine was underwater. It was a neat sight to see the submarine emerge from under the water right in front of you. The sub was very clean and we only saw some small fish. Not much more so a little disappointed in that but it was a neat experience and I still enjoyed it. Felt safe the entire time. read more

This was my favorite ship excursion. We'd stopped in Cozumel many times and were looking for something different to do. This excursion was fun and educational and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The boat ride out was lively with instructions being given on what to do when we get to the sub. It's tight quarters onboard, but everyone gets a seat with a great view. The guide on the sound system made sure we knew what we were looking at, including a sunken ship with divers exploring it. All kinds of sea life swam past the windows as we made our way down 115 feet to the ocean floor. We also saw numerous coral reefs as we glided along. The steep steps to board and exit are fairly easy to navigate and the staff offers lots of help. It's kind of pricey but worth every penny! read more
I would definitely recommend this. It is affordable and family friendly and everyone can do it read more

One of the easier cruise excursions for the whole family. Fun to take a dive down up to 100ft to see plenty of fish and some coral. The is the only excursion we did for the entire family and enjoyed it, although it was a bit pricey to take 5 people & kids. We embarked from Cozumel, and it was easy to walk from cruise ship to the waiting point just outside the dock. Then it was another short walk to the boat. There can be some splash in the boat as it takes you to the sub, then you board the sub through a connecting walkway and take some steep stairs to the inside of the sub. read more

A port adventure that we took on our Disney cruise, this company could not have been more helpful, supportive and informed. The staff kept us entertained on the short boat ride to the reef, where we boarded the submarine. It was not cramped or claustrophobic as I had feared. Instead, our guides made us feel comfortable with humorous anecdotes as we dove down to 115 feet. Our knowledgeable guides pointed out sea life that we would have otherwise missed. And our driver took us right to the edge of the Yucatan Channel, a sheer drop of thousands of feet, before turning us around. We were a party of 4 ranging from 8 to 48 and we all loved it. read more
