I was with them for almost 30 years and never had any major issues until here recently. Ive seen many people have issues with money being stolen from their accounts, and all the stories are almost identical and all were members of ACU. Then it happened to my account too. To the tune of $4000. There security measures are a joke and if youre one of the unfortunate ones who gets caught up in their lack of security, they dont care. Theyll say so sorry so sad and wont reimburse your money even when its proven to be wire fraud. Just thought I would share a little experience I had with the Atomic Credit Union in Chillicothe Ohio. Had some repairs done on a VW that the customer never paid. Since he never paid I kept the car. From there the young man quit paying for the car. (bad idea) Six months later the credit union calls asking if I have the car. I say yes I do and explain why I have it. So here is a quote from them (so if we pay you the repair bill we can come get it) I say sure, I'll even help load it. I email copies of everything requested. Several weeks pass and I here nothing. In the mean time I have another customer ask me about the VW and if it was for sale. I tell him the situation and give him the credit union contact number. One evening a week or two after that the car disappears. I then get a phone call from the guy I gave the credit union contact info to looking for the keys, because he had bought the car. When I told him I hadn't been paid here is a quote of what he said, (they lied to me, I paid extra for the car with the understanding that the credit union was to pay me) So from there I contact the credit union and they tell me there legal team has said I need to take up my bill with the original owner. Not sure where that leaves me but here is what I do know. Sometime doing the ethical or right thing may not be what you have to do legally. I would make sure I have everything in writing because apparently the Atomic Credit Union fills that its ok to say one thing and then do something else. I wouldn't trust them. Everything was smooth sailing for years until today. I disputed a charge in December from Amazon for a cancelled item I was still charged for. I got the credit back for it and all was well, or so I thought. Flash forward to today and I receive a letter from Atomic saying the credit will be reversed next week because the dispute was denied. Attached was proof of delivery from amazon for an entirely different item at an entirely different amount. After telling them this several times on the phone and being placed on hold repeatedly, they finally realize the error and apologize for missing such a huge error and tell me they will be cancelling the scheduled credit reversal. While yes, the overall issue was resolved, the fact of the matter is I was lucky this was only for a $34 charge. What if this had been several hundred dollars in question, their complete overlooking of a huge error could have cost me a fortune in late fees and overdraft fees. I now have an appointment at Huntington bank to switch banks. This incident was not acceptable. read more
