We ordered take out from here today. Food was delivered hot and my fries were not soggy which is hard to do when getting take out. My husband got the Buffalo Mac and Cheese. The pasta was well cooked the cheese sauce was rich and tasty we will definitely be ordering that again! I got the chicken parm sandwich and fries which was good, juicy and a good sauce bread cheese chicken ratio in my opinion ha ha. My husband loved his wings from here also and stated he'd get those again for sure. We also got the Mozzarella wedges which we weren't fond of. They were cooked fine but didn't taste great. As soon as you walk into this restaurant you get a whiff of bathroom odors in the waiting area and in the bathroom hallway. It smelled like a mens urinal. Not ok!!!! Tonight the odor was so strong it was unbearable to use the restroom. Definitely has a plumbing issue or an overflow into the restaurant. The food was great!!! Please fix this problem. I've been to the Atwood Grill a few times. The first few times the food and service was great. This last time I had the waitress from hell. She is in the wrong line of work. I think her name was Gabby. She acted like she would rather be anywhere but there. Very rude and impatient with my elderly mother. The most "Johnston" restaurant around. You don't expect much from this place just looking at it you can tell, but the menu, at first glance, looks appealing. The food however is tasteless. Literally everything on the menu is as if someone removed your tastebuds and you're just eating to eat. Have they ever heard of seasoning? I got the baked stuffed shrimp, expectations weren't high and they still managed to disappoint. I can say I've been here twice and this will certainly be the last time. My first experience here was good but my 2nd experience was even better. My Aunt asked our waitress so many questions and our waitress was super patient with her but not so friendly to me. Went for dinner with my boyfriend this evening and it was delicious as always. We started with complimentary bread and butter. Then we enjoyed the stuffies and Jack Daniel's wings. They were tasty and fantastic. I also had my favorite, the red sangria! I ordered the chicken Michelle and it was pretty good. The chicken was a little dry but the portion was huge. Two excellent sized and spiced stuffies and a cup of homemade chicken soup. Both were great. I ordered the chicken marsala and potato/veg combo. The roasted potatoes were great as was the marsala sauce. My wife ordered the chicken parm and was amazed at how good it was. My family and I go here often. They have good food at very reasonable prices and the portions are big. This is a great family friendly neighborhood style restaurant. Staff is friendly and attentive. Atwood Grill is another place I frequent because they have consistent good food and the portion sizes are amazing. You can't go wrong with the chicken Parmesan here- it's always great. The prices are pretty good too considering the average price you pay. I also say they make great drinks- and this is coming from someone who drinks no more than 10 alcoholic drinks a year- so kudos to the bartender! My only complaint would be the take out situation. I get take out from here quite often and there is literally nowhere to throw myself because this place is always so busy & you have to go to the bar to get it. They should change the setup to the hostess getting it for you or something because half the time I'm getting in the waitress' way and I have to stand and wait for 10-15m- so seriously not a big deal at all. read more

An Italian diner Atwood Grill has been around in this location for almost two decades, but the building actually looks much older. I'm not sure if it was another diner before it became Atwood but both the outside and interior sure looks like something from the sixties. On their website they have words like gourmet and authentic but you can forget that.. Atwood is a diner and not a fine restaurant and that should be quite obvious from just a quick glance. The menu is remarkable huge with all the usually Italian dishes but you can also get burgers and even some seafood. The food is pretty much what I expected from a diner like place, quite good but noting extraordinary. The service was quite good, fast, efficient but not intrusive. Atwood does have a bar area and it obviously attracts some regulars because they all seemed to know each other and were having a good time laughing and boozing it up. Atwood is a diner, one that specializes in Italian food, but a diner nevertheless. A place to get decent food at reasonable prices. As long as you go here with those expectations everything here is just fine. read more

Stopped for a light dinner. Previous reviews are all pretty accurate. Even though we had only apps, we watched food coming out for other diners and portions were generous. From what we tasted, food was adequate-nothing special but probably consistent. Many diners appeared to be regulars. Our server was pretty good. Here's the thing. We were charged a 1.5% CREDIT CARD FEE. I've never been in a restaurant that did this. I know cc charges for merchants are high but this is ridiculous. As a frequent restaurant visitor and almost always cc user, I will not go back. Seems like such a petty way to treat your patrons and makes me wonder where else they are looking for a percentage point of margin. read more

This is seriously one of the worst restaurants I have dined at in a long while (besides the Golden Greek in CT.) Horrible service, probably because the waitresses have too many tables. I had to wait over ten minutes to get my check. The ambiance of the place itself is very much a 'family restaurant' where almost every table had a younger child who was getting up out of their chairs or crying. I'm not a big family restaurant person, so that might have been a turn off as well for me. TV's were in the dining room, which was a constant distraction, and plastered everywhere was "FREE WIFI!" I come to a restaurant (most of the time) to relax and spend time with family and friends, not watch TV. This is not a bar. If I had wanted to watch TV while eating, I would have gone to a bar, or sat in the bar section. The menu was, well, italian. As a person who tends to stray away from gluten, I usually can find something on the menu that I can eat, even at a pasta place, but they don't even offer a burger on their real menu. Their 'specials' menu (7.95!) was great, but was plastered with NO SUBSTITUTIONS (as was the rest of the menu) so with the italian (read: red peppers with provolone cheese) burger would have been a possibility with no bun, but I was afraid to even ask to have them hold the red peppers. As I figured 'what the hell, they have gnocchi, I love gnocchi, I'll cheat and have some" I ordered the gnocchi meal. Such a disappointment. Yes, there was a HUGE portion, but the gnocchi were tasteless, and cheese and sauce were bland. The sauce was probably canned (OK, a lot of restaurants do that) but it wasn't even a GOOD canned style. It truly wasn't worth the 14$, or the gluten cheating. Again, I had to wait about 10 minutes to get a box, because our waitress was too busy having to deal with a cranky child in another section. I truly don't think I will be back here, and will not be recommending it to anyone. Horrible service, food was blech, and the atmosphere was horrible. And, I had to drive around the parking lot to try to find a spot for a good ten minutes too. No thanks. read more

I've been coming here for years. Great food! Great prices! Huge portions! They def give you enough to take home. On this visit I had the eggplant rollatini and my hubby had the boom boom burger. First we started out with garden salads, their homemade Blu cheese dressing is delicious! As well as their pink cream sauce. Only complaint, he asked for his burger to be cooked medium and it was cooked medium well. I guess that's what happens when you come to a place that serves Italian food. Came here for lunch with two of my coworkers. While I wasn't expecting much I was not particularly pleased with our choice to come here. We ordered a small Super Nachos to share and my two coworkers got a sandwich and fries while I took a chance with the Chef Specialty - Cannellini Bruscetta. Our Super Nachos was good, but not stellar. It was pretty much buried with stuff. Both my coworkers sandwiches looked good while my dish came out a liquidity mess that I was not expecting. It was a mix of white beans, sausages with 4 large pieces of toast soaking in some greasy soup. I tried to eat as much as I could and ended up eating two slices of the slightly burnt toast and picked up all the sausages which was the redeeming part of the dish... It became busy here surprisingly but the general crowd looks to be the older close to retirement folks so not much to say there. Service was good I guess, but it was quite a pain to leave as the parking lot was jam packed with not alot of space between each row so I had to make a 20 point turn inch by inch so I don't back into a car behind me. They gave a VIP card for a free meal after your fifth visit but needless to say that's not gonna happen for me for a long while. read more

Where to begin? Ok. I've been to this restaurant many times! I use to like his a lot! Never a five star but a solid 4. The last few times haven't been the same. At first I thought "ok it was a off night". Then we went back. Not so good! So again it was " maybe the waitress was new?" The icing on the cake was the last time! His wife ordered a small Caesar salad instead of the side veg that came with her meal. We were told ok no problem . She ended up with a large salad and we were charged for a large Caesar Salad when then check came! Because my father couldn't get the Shepard's Pie Special. He ordered a pizza with mushrooms; Olives and Peppers. The mushrooms where so thick and huge it was pathetic! I wouldn't serve them with a steak as a side dish! I've been here a few times now and it's been consistently good. Great service and large portions, especially for the price. This is definitely a place you can bring the whole family or a group of friends and it won't break the bank. I've had the regular prime rib which was phenomenal, with a side of past. I love the sauce here, it's got great flavor. Last time I was there, recently, they didn't have regular prime rib, but they had grilled prime rib. It was interesting, but not my favorite. I much prefer the regular prime rib and hope to see it back on the menu soon (it may just have been the day I went). Will be back soon! read more

Used to be a 5. The food is always consistently good. However on my last visit having a having a pasta dish I asked for some.more parmesan cheese.. My guest who was having chicken pot pie asked for cranberry sauce. What a surprise when on the bill we recharged $1 for parmesan cheese and $1 For cranberry sauce. This is such a surprise for a restaurant that has always been good. For an additional charge like this Guests should be informed up front. Come on people- it's a diner!!!!! Call it what you will but from the minute you walk into the place, it's a diner atmosphere and food. Don't expect fancy tables, spectacular food or anything else. There is a reason so many locals (mostly old) go there. Steady comfortable food at really decent (cheap) prices. If they named it the Atwood Diner there wouldn't be half the complaints there are on the reviews. So if you go, just expect pretty good food, plain, nothing fancy. Servers are harried as it's always busy, bartender is a bit unfriendly- unless you're a man (which I HATE). They do try- there are fresh flowers only in the center of the dining room- the booths have nothing. That's a bit odd. They have Keno there so that obviously is another draw. I stopped in as I had an appointment and needed a place fast for lunch. It was packed (the parking is tight) and I was told I would have to wait for a table. When I asked how long, the hostess just shrugged. Nothing special there. I do expect a place that is always busy to have a hostess that can handle it. I asked if I could sit at the bar and she said sure if there was a seat. So I found a seat at the end of the bar where I could see some of the kitchen. They have a big diner menu - and I saw everything from pasta to steaks to sandwiches being brought out by numerous servers. They had a pretty good daily special menu and I ended up getting the chicken Caesar wrap with fries and Cole slaw and pickle slice for $6.50. Really??? I wasn't sure initially but I was really impressed. Freshly grilled chicken (not the grilled pre-cooked you get from chains like Applebee's ) with fresh Caesar salad wrapped in a wrap. The French fries were a bit oily but the cole slaw was good. It came out in 10 minutes which was impressive. The people at the bar 's food looked good, but based on the sandwich I would go back and try something else. Their prices are really good for the basic things like hamburgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, pasta dishes but I wouldn't order something like salmon or shrimp from here. Again- it's a diner. But I would choose to come here where I saw the food being cooked rather then go to an Applebee's where everything is partially cooked when they get it, and then they throw it on the grill to finish. This is a single place and is quirky. So if you are looking for bland service and atmosphere- go to your chains.
