I was in the market for a new premium sheet set with duvet cover and had read good things about Au Lit online. I ended up getting the 220 percale weave in charcoal on a sale and the order ended up totalling just shy of 600 CAD after all discounts. When I first got these sheets out of the packaging, I was shocked. They felt stiff and borderline scratchy, but I figured a wash would soften the sheets up. Despite following all of the included directions, the sheets after washing felt the exact same as they did out of the packaging. I then reached out to Au Lit customer support. I was told that these sheets need to "break in" compared to other sheets. Figuring I would trust the process, I slept on these sheets for weeks. After 2 more washes it was clear to me that nothing was breaking in at all as the sheets still felt exactly as they did out of the packaging. During the 2 weeks however, I probably slept worse than I have in years. Over the years, I have had many different types and styles of cotton sheets with different weaves and thread counts. I can easily say without hyperbole, that even some of the cheapest sheets I have ever purchased have been more soft/comfortable than the sheets I received. I actually went around my home to feel different textiles to compare against. The curtains in my bedroom are literally softer then these sheets. Every single shirt I own is softer. The only textile in my entire home that was comparable was my SHOWER CURTAIN. If that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does. I eventually noticed a DEFECT after placing the sheets on my bed after the 3rd wash. At this point I was livid, not only was the worst bedding I was ever owned, it was also defective and EXORBITANTLY expensive. And that was even after discounts! The only thing that saved this from a 1 star review is that my order was promptly refunded. I ended up taking all the bedding an donating it to my local shelter. To be fair I can only speak to the quality of the 220 count percale weave, but based on how abysmal the quality of this product is, I would stay FAR AWAY from ALL Au Lit products. read more

Most sadly, the cotton pillowcases will not work for me. They are causing a tremendous amount of creasing on my face!! Not a good look.

omg the softest sheets EVER! the staff was so helpful (it can be overwhelming with so many options!) and really took the time to explain the different materials and thread counts etc. which made me feel confident in my choices. I even got to try out the pillows to make sure I was getting the perfect one for me. 10/10, best experience, best bedding, so worth the investment. read more

It's that time of year again, mom's birthday! What do I get a woman who has everything? I know... a tablecloth. Yonge street - uptown - seemed the ideal spot to find a middle aged, upper-middle class woman a mid-sized table cloth. Au Lit is a linen store whose French countryside façade in the front of the store was always very attractive to my eye. The store, much like its merchandise, was very white, clean and luxurious feeling and if it wasn't for the unbelievably snobby staff, who would not even look at me when I walked through the door, I would have been happy to purchase one of their over-priced items for my deserving mother. Instead of having an enjoyable shopping experience, I left the store empty handed, feeling rather persecuted (ala Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman) and wondering if it really was wrong to go out shopping in my gym clothes. read more

I bought a duvet for my daughter and when we got it we thought they sent us the wrong product because the description mentioned PUFFY three times. What we opened felt like a flat sheet. We brought it to the store and we were told we can not exchange it and this is what it is. I told them this was grossly misrepresented on their website and the girl shrugged and said if I don't like it in a week I can bring back. I asked what would she do then versus now with the product unused and she did not have an answer for me. I left a review on their website under the product and it was taken down!!! I will never shop there again. The store is overpriced - with terrible customer service. You are better shopping in a big store that will stand behind their products. read more

Purchased a fitted queen bedsheet (for almost $300) that after its initial wash, revealed torn seams. Contacted the online support. Agent advised us to return the product (no return postage was provided in the initial online purchase); offer was to return the damaged purchase to their flagship location, or send it back. We agreed to receiving a packaging slip (more delay), and that once THEY receive the product, they would "assess" the situation. WTF? This is their "customer centric" reply? I couldn't agree more with Erin H's review - not much has changed in the nearly two years since she wrote her review... Gainfully employed: check. Nike Air Dunks and unwashed denim: check. Corresponding static from the staff at Au Lit Fine Linens: check. Furthermore, in addition to the lackluster service, the prices are a wee bit high. I was looking for a king-sized Sferra waffle blanket. Indeed. Au Lit had it in stock. However, the offer price was fully 33% higher than the price I paid sourcing the blanket elsewhere. I just have to YELP this place reeks with an undeserving attitude! Since when has the french country aesthetic been accompanied by such an unreasonable terseness? This store will no longer have my business - I am formally boycotting it! After being made to feel like a criminal for returning faulty product ...not just once... not twice... but three times - you have to wonder - is this really the consumers fault or is this just a crappy towel set that's sold in a fancy white shop by bitchy women and overpriced in order to create an illusion of quality?! The choice is ours as consumers and I will no longer support a store that treats it's clientele with such disrespect and condescension. Very disappointed in my recent purchase. I ordered the jumbo queen fitted sheet and the queen flat, as they did not offer jumbo in flat. The fitted was perfect but the flat is too small for the bed. When I contacted the store they informed me that they do sell jumbo flat but it's not on their website. She offered to sell me the jumbo flat (after just spending $500 on a set that doesn't fit). No offer of compensation. So now I have a $500 set of sheets that don't fit my bed. read more

I really enjoy Au Lit. I am all about companies that are not only passionate about their products but who are equally as passionate about educating the people who come across them. I am one of their online shoppers, since it would be no small feat for me to pop up to Toronto to do some linen shopping, and I could not be more happy with the level of customer service that I have experienced from Au Lit. I choose to invest my money into Au Lit's products because I feel that I can trust them. I know that I am going to be getting sheets, pillows, and blankets of amazing quality not to mention the level of attention and help that they give me via emails or phone calls. The worst! That's the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name "Au Lit Fine Linens". I am not one to write online reviews, in fact this will be my first. I was treated so poorly I thought I had to save others from experiencing the same. This review is going to be kind of long because the experience spanned several days of back and forth emails. I went into the store for the first time late in 2014. I thought it was so beautiful but a bit out of my price range. However, because the quality of the fabric was incredible I decided to save and start investing. My second trip was in February of 2015. I went with a friend and we were looking at everything from bedding to bath products. I was approached twice by two ladies asking if I needed help, but since I knew what I was going to buy I politely let hem know I was just browsing and didn't require assistance. Then a man approached me. He appeared to be the only man working that day and he asked me if I needed any help. I again responded with a friendly "I'm just browsing" to which his response in an accusatory and condescending tone was "are you?" I was absolutely stunned at the look he was giving me. I responded with "yes is that okay?" to which he took a moment to look at me up and down and paused before saying "yeah." I was made to feel like I was doing something wrong. My friend urged me to not buy anything, he heard the whole interaction and was shocked. But I had my heart set on a set of sheets, and was also considering buying a duvet, sham and a robe but The Bay got the rest of my business that day. And my friend refused to ever support Au Lit. I emailed the owner Joanna about my disappointing experience because I could not believe the way I had been spoken to. I was made to feel like I did not belong or was not good enough to browse in the store. Maybe he thought I was a thief? I'm not sure. Unfortunately Joanna did not do much following up. She claimed ignorance and insisted that no men worked in the store. According to her there were men who worked in the warehouse and in the office but they never approached customers. This made no sense and left me extremely bewildered. She said she would look into the situation and follow up with me. I never heard from her again. After checking out the website I found out that the man who had approached me was actually her husband and the CFO of Au Lit. I promptly emailed her and said I couldn't believe her husband and owner would ever speak to someone like that and I wanted an immediate return on my sheets and I didn't want to be charged the REPACKAGING and PRESSING fee. She immediately agreed and never addressed the fact that it was her husband who made an innocent woman shopping feel so uncomfortable. The interaction was so abrupt with little to no apology. The issue was barely addressed. When I went in on the day to do my exchange I was greeted with crassness and again unprofessionalism. The store manager had to go speak with Joanna in the back room to make sure I wasn't lying (even though the emails specified the time and date that I was coming and Joanna assured me the staff would be aware to wave the fees.) When the manager returned she said Joanna had no idea that the sheet had been taken out of its packaging. Why would I request to not be charged a repackaging and pressing fee if I left it in its case? The fact that the owner was present at the time and did not bother to come out and apology but instead hid in the back was absurd. I could understand the situation may have been a bit embarrassing for her, but I deserved some respect and recognition. The woman then told me that Joanna wanted my relationship with Au Lit to end and that since I would not be shopping there anymore she is not going to charge me for it. I have never been so insulted in my life. To chastise a customer for returning an item is absurd. Especially when that return is a direct result of the rudeness of staff. I couldn't believe it. The unprofessionalism, the inconsistent emails, refusal of acknowledgement and a general lack of customer service or hospitality makes me wonder how this place still stands. They are disrespectful to women and in general to people who wanted to become long time buyers. I should have listened to these reviews before going through such a hassle for sheets that costs hundreds of dollars. I can only urge you to think twice and buy elsewhere. If Joanna and her husband Miguel ever want to see a long lasting business this clearly is not the way to go. read more

I bought a mattress cover at Au Lit and had also ordered one on line from The Bay. When I received the one from The Bay, I felt it was far better quality. I had never opened the package with the one from Au Lit and tried to return it two days later. I was told that I should have read the signs at the cash that mattress pads are not returnable due to hygienic reasons.I can understand their policy had the item been taken out of the packaging or if the salesperson had told me this was final sale. The salesperson never mentioned this to me.In fact I never buy anything I cannot return, especially knowing I was waiting to receive one from The Bay. This is poor business practice and I will be sure to never shop at Au Lit again. The manager of the store told me I should have seen it on my receipt. That is ridiculous because at that point it is too late. Perhaps the manager should be more focused on her staff being more transparent with their customers or perhaps that is just the point to not be. read more

The store staff are not knowledgable about store policies, this creates big problems. The customer service I experienced was horrible. I feel the store makes up policies as they go along to fit their needs with no consideration for the customer. I asked the store owner to call me to sort out a problem and months later I still have not received any contact. read more

BEWARE! Although for many years I've supported this store and the concept of beautiful, made in Canada bed linens I recently had a terrible experience with an on-line order and as such I will no longer be a customer. I ordered a set of linen sheets in February and was told they were out of stock but would be shipped in a few weeks. Despite following up with the store in March, April, and eventually May the sheets did not arrive. I was told the fabric was "delayed" being sent from Italy and my order would be top priority when the linen arrived. Note that I was fully charged ($500+!) for the sheets in February and had to wait over 3 months for them to be shipped out to me. In the end, the store apologized to me in an e-mail but did not phone me or offer me any compensation for having taken my money 3 months ago. I would have expected at least an offer of a credit toward a future purchase, maybe a set of complimentary pillow cases, or something. The store clearly does not care at all about customer service or keeping customers. With that attitude, it's only a matter of time. read more

Unlike others, I had a great experience here. As soon as I went in, I was greeted and assisted by a nice British woman (Zoe?). She took the time to explain everything about linens and helped me choose ones to my taste and price-range. The store is not cheap by any means, but on the other hand, you will have linen which will last you years to come. I went back the next day to buy a duvet and cover, my experience with a different salesperson was just as good. read more

Today I made my first trip to Au Lit Fine Linens. It will be the first of what I can confidently say will be many. The staff could not have been more pleasant or helpful. When asked if I needed help and answering that I was looking for a white duvet cover, Barb showed me all of the white duvet covers in the store. There was no pressure to buy, but rather I was left to my own devices to browse and think. I ended up buying a lovely cover and my check-out experience was handled efficiently and again was very pleasant. I also checked out the outlet store a few doors down and again the staff member was pleasant and helpful. I cannot wait to go back! read more

No one would help me, although no one was in the store, and when I did approach staff, no one smiled, and stared at me with their arms crossed over their chests. Went to liv ( June 2011 ) and got stared at all through the store so my husband and I walked out pissed off. Went to AuLit on 2049 Yonge st. where we usually shop with pride and received the same warmness as all the other times . I told the worker Linda about our experience at the other store. She was not happy and was going to tell the owner, who would not be happy either. I purchased furniture there before and that day we purchased a beautiful down pillow. Just getting to tell the worker about the other store made us feel happier and as we were making our purchase the lady gave us a complimentary bar of soap for the poor service at their other store. Worst place ever! Bought pillows as a Christmas gift (over $500). The pillows which were wrapped in their plastic wrapping were literally taken from the store to my car to under the Christmas tree. When I realized on Christmas morning that I had the wrong size - I went back to the store to ask if I could exchange them for the next size up - which would mean that I would have to pay more - the staff and manager refused claiming customers are told the company policy of no exchanges on pillows before they purchase. Actually none of that is true (I was never told at time of purchase) and besides - it was clear the pillows were never touched. So now I have $500 pillows that I have no use for. The manager was useless as she was unable to use judgement in the matter and the store assistant that originally helped me just hid behind the counter. They just lost a customer and with that kind of snobby service - I hope they go out of business too. read more
