It's along the Grand Vin Route from Beaune to Dijon, closer to Dijon, in the little village of Vasna-Romanee. We had a fabulous meal, starting with good escargot, then a melt-in-your-mouth terrine of duck foie gras with a peach marmalade. My main was a baked duck coated in honey, with potatoes and roasted figs. It was simply delicious, with great complimenting flavors. My wife had a skewer of pork tenderloin marinated in red pesto, with sweet chorizo and a creamy risotto. Also delicious. We had to work at translating the menu items, but the wait staff was very patient and helpful. For wine, we had a great 1st Cru Greve from the region, at a price we'll never see in the US. Great setting with a park view, and clearly popular with locals. I have no reluctance to recommend this restaurant if you're anywhere in the Burgundy region.

It provides a decidedly old-school foil a sleek, clean modern dining room, which foreshadows the meal ahead: classic French, prepared anew. In finer weather, the expansive patio would be ideal for an al fresco meal. Either way, the floor-to-ceiling windows provide a picturesque view of Burgundian Grand Cru vineyards along the ridge above. In fabulous style, the service is perfect, unobtrusive, yet generous. For lunch, it's hard to go wrong with the Menu du Jour, two plates for 19E, three for 25E. The rabbit terrine, expertly made, rich and nuanced, served with a biting whole mustard. Pumpkin soup, spiced beautifully for the season, was creamy, soft, and warming. The chicken ballotine stuffed with herbs and laid over filling red lentils cooked in sultry demi-glace. To pair, the wine list is expansive and filled with Burgundy, at suitable prices. Castel de Tres Girard's on the must-do list for any trek on the Route de Grand Cru.

The Cepe (mushroom soup) which was in season as all the restaurants seemed to have it - theirs was the best I've had. For my main plate, I had the Beef Bourguignon, which I could not pass up since we were in Burgundy. Excellent dish...beef was so tender and cooked perfectly. UPDATE October 8, 2024: Had dinner again at La Lune last…read morenight. In the year since our last visit they haven't missed a beat. It is still terrific. I made a reservation mistake and thought that we would not be able to eat there but a stroke of luck had us down for an 8PM reservation the next night. Great little hole in the wall like Japanese restaurant with mostly Sushi bar seating. We had the edamame, chicken karaage, some incredible mushroom dish, the Coquilles, tuna tartar and YES the fabulous pork chop which we missed last year as per below. It was all wonderful and since we drove down from Strasbourg just to eat at La Lune our expectations were high. Terrific at every turn. The one thing I am angry with myself for is not getting the name of the wonderfully talented Japanese chef and the gent that runs the front of the house (with some help from a capable colleague this year). I really would like to recognize them by name but it will have to wait until next year. Very few restaurants are a total hit but La Lune is one of them. Cannot wait to return.
