I saw the reviews about how difficult it was to work with these guys, but they are supposed to be really good so I gave it a try. I had to fill out the form twice, and have the guy yell at me a few times on the phone. That was ok. I got through the insane vetting process, and then I brought it over at 12:30 (they are only open 12-7 on some days). They were closed. I ran some other errands and I called back 2 hours later to see if they were open yet. They answered and immediately started yelling at me again. I couldn't even ask if they were open for me to bring it over. I got a lecture about how busy and important they were. I tried to tell him I already filled out the form and just wanted to know if I could bring it over. He kept yelling so I hung up this time. He immediately called me back and started yelling at me again. I hung up. He called again and left a several minute voicemail telling me all about what's wrong with me. I was willing to put up with a lot to get this done but he is a supreme asshole. I give up. read more

Hands down the most grumpy, arrogant, and unpleasant customer service experience I've ever had. I contacted Audio Proz to inquire about repairing a vintage turntable. I was instructed to submit a contact form with photos and told the owner would call me back. He did return my call--but instead of asking a single clarifying question or listening to what I actually needed, he launched into a ten-minute tirade about how vintage 1950s record players "aren't worth fixing," how everyone else does repairs wrong, and how he's the only competent person because he's been doing this for 50 years... while simultaneously insisting he doesn't want to do the work, doesn't have space, doesn't have time, and doesn't think these units should be repaired at all. At no point did he actually listen to what I was calling about. When I tried to politely redirect the conversation and ask a very simple question--can you help me or not, and what would you like me to do next?--he repeatedly talked over me, wouldn't let me finish a sentence, and then bizarrely accused me of talking over him, saying "I don't let people talk over me," despite the fact that he was the one ranting nonstop. I attempted to explain that I was committed to preserving the furniture and was open to swapping audio components if that made more sense. He wouldn't let me speak long enough to hear that, and instead launched into yet another lecture about how people wrongly think modern equipment is better--completely missing the point. By the end of the call, it was clear he had no interest in helping and no respect for the person on the other end of the phone. Despite limited options for audio repair, I simply could not imagine giving this man my money. He may be knowledgeable and overwhelmingly busy, but customer service is absolutely not his strong suit. If that's the case, he should seriously consider hiring someone else to handle inquiries and stick to working alone with the equipment--because as a customer-facing experience, this was truly awful. read more

Impossible to work with. I tried to get them to service two preamps (one stock, one modified) with a clear power supply problem in both and an older gentleman, who said he was 77, not Vince, called me back and wanted the provenance of my two units and ranted on about modified gear, even though that had nothing to do with the ps failure. A normal tech would just take a voltmeter to the power rails as a first step, not an inquisition. I really hope the man gets the therapy he desperately needs. A shame because I had Vince repair an expensive amp 15 or so years ago and it is still working great. read more

This place is an absolute gem. I never write Yelp reviews but I'm compelled to do so here. These guys are experts. You can't find this kind of attention to detail and care for vintage components anywhere. If you want a repair, tune up, etc of your old equipment done by folks who know their stuff, come to this place. Fill out the forms, give them the info they need, and the results will be nothing short of amazing. There's a reason they are busy, have specific protocols, and might not be able to get to your stuff right away (though they try to do so and are very efficient). Don't chance taking your audio equipment here for even basic repair. all of the reviews describing negative interaction with Vince the owner are true. He is very condescending, rude and won't let you say two words in a row without yelling and interrupting. He'll also throw out insults. according to his website he has expertise repairing APT Holman preamps. My Apt Holman wouldn't play both Channels in stereo mode but would play both in mono. Also the mute feature wasn't working. Should be a slam dunk easy fix for a self described savant at fixing these. He convinced me to do the level three upgrade. He definitely talks A good game. I should have listened to the reviews. long story short he did a hack job. I soon as i powered up the preamp my speakers sounded like a big firecracker went off. Sound was very muffled out of one channel with intermittent pops. Powered off and connected speakers with a protection fuse. Blew both when powered on. Called him. Two of my drivers are fried in my very nice Polk sda srs speakers. He gave me the song and dance and said it was my equipment that was bad. I presently have an Apt holman that works perfect. The only thing I did was connect the "fixed" one he destroyed. He didn't want to hear that. He is a delusional incompetent fool. dont send him your stuff! read more

Review is based on interactions not actual work. Vince likely was and probably still is good at the technical work As others have noted, the owner's conversational style is abrasive. He engages in ranting, threats, shouting down, talking over, and also displays grandiose thinking and a persecution complex. Given that I talked to him multiple times about multiple potential projects, I have a high tolerance (probably higher than I should) for this type of behavior if I think I'm getting excellent work done. The reason I didn't go with him was that I couldn't convince myself of his continued mental competence. In a half hour conversation, he would say the same exact things a dozen times and ask me the same question 5 times. Where does ranting end and short term memory loss begin? I don't know but I also am not confident he'd remember the cash he insists on being paid with. Also, if I answered a question with more than 2 syllables, he reacted aggressively. Maybe he's a jerk, but there's no need to attribute ill intent. It's as likely he gets flustered at not being able to process information and reacts out of embarrassment. I hope I'm wrong in my review and that I caught him on bad days. read more

Still zero stars here, just thought I'd update more Vince's shoddy craftsmanship. As I'm completely rebuilding this unit, I have now discovered variable resistor 4, 470 ohm, had been replaced with a 2.2K ohm VR, then bridged with 470 resistor. No way was the Bias settable with this arrangement. Either Vince hack jobbed it himself, or passed this off as "clean" and "all original". I'll keep updating this review with all of the bootleg jerry rigs I discover, so you all can see what this shop does when you consider bringing your vintage piece of equipment in or purchasing a vintage unit from them. Vince and Ken helped me build a system based on my email interest in a couple speaker sets that Audioproz had for sale. The system sounds awesome, components are in excellent shape at half the cost of comparable new equipment (complete package included cables cut to length/tipped and Vince may have modified the amp to better accommodate the speakers ). If you need to repair or modify vintage stereo or musician's equipment then Audioproz is likely to be a jewel for you. If you have patience for eccentricities (I just answered Vince's questions as directly as I could) you will likely have a good experience. It probably helps if you have a solid idea of what you want before you talk by phone and email was a great place to start. I communicated mostly with Ken who was great to work with. read more

I filled out their request form and several days later I got a call from Vince. The first thing he told me was that I didn't fill out their form correctly when it came to where I had purchased my turntable. The thing is, the form didn't allow me the option of saying that I bought it used at a record store. When I tried to tell him that, he got weirdly upset with me and told me to go get "paper and pen" and write down what he was going to tell me. I said, "Hey, this seems way over complicated. Can I just tell you what's wrong with my unit ..." but then he cut me off and insisted I write down what he was going to tell me. I thought, this guy sounds like a nut and I'm not going to give him my business no matter what. He started going on and on with the "do you have paper and pen yet?" bit so I just hung up on him. I mean, what's with the attitude? He called me back and left a long message that I deleted without listening to it. read more

I've never written a review for a business before but I am so impressed with Vince's work I feel it worthwhile to give him a pat on the back. I would give six stars if there was an option to do so. I brought these speakers to AudioProz to see if they could be salvaged after damaging the woofers due to a poorly executed re-foam job. I opted to have all the recommended service performed including new Woofers and a re-voicing of the crossover networks for improved performance. Vince explained he worked with the guy who designed these and he understood how to improve them. He was absolutely right, because he did a fantastic job. In my opinion, it is pointless to describe how these sound, other than to say the shouty mid-range response has been expertly tamed. These speakers sound fantastic no matter what you're listening to at any volume. Loudspeaker design and modification is an art, not a science. Vince is prodigiously talented. I'm happy this type of service is available at any cost, let alone such a reasonable one. It's been two years since I had this service performed, and from where I'm sitting, working with Vince sounds pretty good to me. read more

This evening, I spent 10 minutes being berated by Vince on the phone about my Tascam 388 before I hung up. At first I wanted to write a bad review, but realized that Yelp's only a good place to lament for those who's already dealt with him. Then I started to think of funny antidotes with "the angriest engineer in the world." But as I was falling asleep, I started to wonder, why does Vince get so upset over analog equipment? It's just f'n gear! In context, my father, who recently passed, was an Engineer at Ampex in the 1960s (helical scan, instant replay), then ran his own record label and studio. He was basically Buddhist and didn't make to his 80th birthday. His best friend since high school, who was an Engineer at NOAA and also ran his own studio, and I never heard raise his voice, also died recently before his 80th. I've decided I no longer want to deal with analog machines, as you need to keep analog gear constantly in use or it breaks. And I already have a day job and many other, less stressful, interests. So why do you (Vincent) get so angry (or passionate) about analog? It's a dying art form that will fade with your "boomer" generation. You're 68 or 69 and I'd hedge my bets you won't make it to 70 with the high amount of catharsis release on display to strangers. I've never had a phone call that was so clearly a "cry for help" and I sincerely hope (pray) that you find the psychological assistance you need to prolong your life. As you stated or yelled at me, I think you should retire (move to FL and create more shitty music) and sell the business to your associates, who can clearly deal with the public better than you. read more

Might be one of the rudest people I've talked to in a while. And his EGO was the size of a small third world country. He may very well know everything there is to know about av equipment, he definitely seems to know a lot, but I just couldn't handle being treated like an idiot. I couldn't get a word in because he kept telling me that I didn't know as much as he did and he needed to ask all the questions and didn't want to hear me explain anything. All he knew was my name and assumed he new a million times more than I did. Didn't ever dawn on him that I might be an av technician and expert as well - I'm not, but he didn't know that. All i wanted was a *%^$#$^ part to source locally because it was on back order from the factory. I had the part number and told him so, but he refused to let me give it to him. Told me if I thought I knew more than he did I could just hang up. Which I did. I'd pay two or three times as much somewhere else, with someone who knew a lot less, to not have to deal with the ego and rudeness. I honestly feel bad writing this review. It feels like I'm piling on but it also seems worth sharing. I brought my Technics SL1200MK2 in to Audio Proz to have the on/off switch repaired. That's it. The on/off switch broke. I should mention I'm a 50'ish lifelong musician with a basement full of vintage gear. I've spent thousands fixing up and maintaining my stuff. I was familiar with Vince's reputation from lots of other musician old-timers in Boston but figured I could put up with his peculiarities in order to get my turntable fixed. Unfortunately he out-crazied me. After several strange and openly hostile phone calls with Vince (basically I went through an audition to see if he wanted to fix my equip that also involved listening to him complain bitterly about how he does not want to take phone calls because he's too busy.....so he keeps me on the phone for, no kidding, 45 minutes to explain how little time he has) after passing the audition I was given an exact time to drop off my turntable including how much cash to bring and where to park. I also have to mention through the initial phone calls I was probably asked 10 times if I was a DJ. Even to the point of him sneaking the question in several times after I answered him. It started to feel like an interrogation with Columbo.....just when I thought I was no longer under suspicion of being a DJ he would spin around and say "just one more thing....." I want to state unequivocally and without reservation I am not now, nor have I EVER been a DJ! This turntable never left my house for the last 25 years. My turntable was examined minutely upon receipt and I was told there was lots of good news. The tone-arm wasn't bent and the main bearing looked good. Turns out the details he examined upon receipt were not accurate (the tonearm was bent! The main bearing had a flat spot and would never work without these things being fixed!) and it would take hundreds to fix my turntable, if it could be fixed at all. He did provide the option of buying one of his turntables, using my existing deck as a "parts trade in".... which I considered except he could never tell me exactly what he would give me for that trade in. There didn't appear to be an option that didn't result in me paying at least 500 bucks (the low end of the appraisal) and giving him my SL1200 in exchange for a "new" turntable. When I asked him to tell me specifically what he'd give me for my turntable as a trade in he shouted angrily "I just told you that!" to which I responded "What?? You just told me? I guess I missed it......so how much?" He stammered, sputtered and eventually hung up. I think it bears mentioning at this point that the turntable I brought in had worked flawlessly in my home for decades until the on/off switch broke. So here's how this ends... I picked up my turntable. They kept my deposit, I get it, that's part of the deal and it was explained to me when I dropped it off. I brought my old favorite turntable home, went on Youtube and watched a tutorial about replacing the on/off switch and fixed it myself for nothing. It's spinning an Art Tatum album flawlessly in my living room as I write this. I also must add that the story of my interrogation at Vince's hands has so entered my lexicon that friends and family still periodically narrow their eyes and ask me suspiciously, "you're not a DJ are you?" or "so exactly how long have you been a DJ?" I don't doubt Vince is a knowledgeable technician but its so difficult to deal with him that all that experience is meaningless. He knows he's difficult to deal with but seems incapable of modifying his behavior. I am not some kid who shudders at the thought of dealing with an eccentric genius. I will bite my tongue happily to get what I want. Vince made it absolutely impossible for me to deal with him. I pride myself for using inexhaustible patience to deal with tough personalities. I've done that professionally for decades. Vince is one of the few people who has out-crazied my patience. I wish him all the luck in the world but I'll never bring any equipment to him again. read more

So after one interaction in person, I was left incredulous and curious about what reviews this place gets. I won't repeat what others have already written about interacting with the owner, which is all true. It is unique, requiring saintly patience and forgiveness, which is why I chose not to use this place and I can't comment objectively on whether the owner is as knowledgeable as he repeatedly claimed. However his name dropping and trashing every customer and person and every producer in the industry (I am an engineer myself which I hadn't mentioned to him) gave me pause. Beware of these folks. They sound professional and knowledgeable only when telling you some "fairy tales" but fall short with the real technical challenges. There's no real scientific or engineering approach. All they do is pissing off everybody else (including you) and claiming they are THE ONE and THE ONLY who knows. They don't bother to listen. It's just a non-stop pompous pontification about how they are GREAT and others are miserable. Once you bite this hype they will give you more useless lectures targeted to somebody having no clue of the matter. If you are an engineer or have friends who can distinguish between the real knowledge and some technically-sounding rubbish, try to ask a couple of specific questions. You may figure out they don't even have a basic electrical and electronic engineering background and operate with some pseudo-engineering terminology like "better sounding", "special capacitors" etc. With the same chances they may either help or ruin your equipment. So, save yourself from the time & money loss and find people who have the right knowledge and attitude read more

I went to start off by saying this is not the first interaction I have had with this shop. I started off speaking to them at the end of 2021. I had some speakers and accessories that a roommate left that I wanted to sell. I called the store and was told to send in an online inquiry through their site. I sent something in later that day. The person I spoke to was nice, but you could tell they were busy. I sent the online inquiry later that day. A few days later, I had not heard anything, so I called them. The person I spoke to said that they needed to check with the owner about me selling anything. It was the holidays and they were incredibly busy and they said to call back. I called back a day or two later and finally reached the owner. This person was so rude and pushy. In not so many words basically said I was wasting their time by calling in and not following the proper procedure. APPARENTLY the proper procedure was to send in the online inquiry, but in the inquiry say when you are coming in. If the online inquiry form that I filled out mentioned that I need to tell them when I would come in, I would have done that in the first place. But I said "ok, I will do that". I should have taken the owners attitude as a hint to not work with this business. I knew I wouldn't be able to come in for a little while, so I waited to message them until I was free. I sent the message on a Tuesday or Wednesday telling them what I had and what I was trying to sell. I also told them how to reach me and when I would be able to come in (like the owner very rudely told me). I told them I would come in on Friday. A few days go by, and no response from them. I checked my email and my voicemails a few times a day. Nothing, so I assumed I was good to come in as I was following the owners instructions. I load up my car, and drive down the road. I got there a few minutes early and waited in my car (I didn't want to be rude and come before they officially opened). Once they opened, I even waited a few extra minutes, to give the store and employees some time to get ready for the day. I went in, and from the start the owner was incredibly rude; telling me that I came in without an appointment, flat out telling me that I was wasting his time, telling me that he is the only employee right now and that he needs to man the phones (I tried to tell him "I understand" and he came back with a "NO YOU DONT".) He told me that he called and left a voicemail for me. I checked my phone again, and I had never received anything. I told him that I never received anything and he raised his voice and told me that I was lying. The entire time he would talk over me, and be so condescending that he could have offered me msrp for the items that I was selling and I wouldn't have taken it. I did not want to give them any business after that. At the end, he told me that he would be able to get $120 for everything but could only offer me $5. I would rather have thrown the items off a bridge, than give them to the store. I left and brought them to a business that I would actually want to support, a thrift shop. I don't care how good a persons work is, if their attitude is trash, and they treat customers like trash, then that's all they deserve. Stay clear of this store!! Do not even bother. In the end, you will just be "wasting their time" and ultimately wasting yours read more

What a gem! Vince took on the task of fixing my Emotiva XPA-3 power amp when no one else would. He made it very clear that it can take a while especially when manufacturers will not share vital (repair) information like schematics. Vince was also very up-front and transparent about the cost(s), and kept his word and stayed within my budget. I was in no rush, since it wasn't any good to me broken. Vince and the guys in the shop are happy to help, give them the 30 days, and there isn't any need to constantly check-in. They will call when it's done, or follow-up with you with an update if necessary. They will tell it to you straight, like it is, and not what you want to hear or are used to hearing. They will NOT up-sell you on things that you don't need. They will even try and help you avoid costly mistakes, based on info you've read on-line. I have since brought in my Yamaha YP-801BL turntable to be tuned-up, set-up and completely decoupled to accept a MC cartridge- great work. I came back and purchased a vintage Yamaha integrated amp from them for a great price. Just recently I brought in my Yamaha NS-1000M speakers for their crossover modification/service. The speakers came back sounding much better than they had originally, and now I don't have to worry for the next 30+ years about electrolytic capacitors leaking or being out of spec. Fair, honest, and direct- I would highly recommend them! read more

This store is a , rare, one of a kind find. The people who staff the store are knowledgeable, helpful and, well, unusual. This store is in the business of high fidelity, meaning really good sound, not what is necessarily currently acceptable. As an owner of many "Classic " and expensive Speakers ( Klipsch heritage series) and a former owner of classic ADS among other stuff (Klipsch RF series, JBL L-series, Bose) I've been in the game a long time. These guys are unquestionably the best I've run into. Technically these guys know their stuff, they may come off as a bit off, but, like sound itself, you have to listen to appreciate their input. Recently I purchased a set of Large Advent loudspeakers from them, the best sound purchase I've made in years. The reconing job they did on the woofers and restoration on these speakers was amazing. I now remember what high fidelity is. The sound I fell in love with as a kid. This store also offered some crossover tweaks, should I decide I need them. I was waiting in this serious audiophile toy store and they showed and explained what they could do. What they did do was sell me a beautiful pair of real "Hi-Fi" Speakers that make me forget about my center channel and subwoofer and just plain enjoy sound reproduction the way I used to. Clearly they all paid attention in shop class. Prior to my coming to them for a purchase, the owner got on the phone with me and asked me about the dimensions of the room the speakers would be deployed in, what kind of things I listened to, and a couple of questions about what I currently have. Go to this shop for your hifi needs. It is awesome. Ken, Ray and the owner Vince their products and services are top notch. I made an appointment due to the COVID issue and I believe that is the way they do a lot of their business on a regular basis. Btw is good with me because they want and are willing to spend time with each customer. Ken and Ray asked me a number of questions to get a clear understanding of what I was looking for. 1. I bought a vintage receiver (Yamaha). One important question they asked is did I care if or did the unit have to be silver in color? I lot of people care about that so it has that vintage look. I personally did not care - I wanted the vintage quality and design which effect the actual listening. They explained that you have to pay a lot more for silver due to the demand and that those units (mostly) did not come with remote controls and if I were ok with black I could get a lot more for the money - which by the way is a conclusion I agree with. 2. I bought a pair of mid to late 80s ADS L990s. Bottom line is they are performing exactly the way I was told they would - they then paired the Yamaha receiver I purchased with them. They produce the exact sound characteristics I'm looking for. Not going to bore you with those details - but I will say the sound characteristics are very different than what one would be provided from current popular speakers from KEF, Elac, Klipsch and a like. The speakers were serviced by Vince the owner and he personally took me through what he did to them and why - they also offer a warranty on all of the gear I purchased - so this is not buy and pray you did not get ripped off - but all of the prices were right in the ball park of internet pricing - even better. Very rare in this world to find this level of product, craftsmanship at value pricing. 3. Lastly, I bought a pair of 20 year old Boston Acoustic speakers for a 1974 Harmon Kardon receiver i had. They were beautifully refurbished by Vince. They knew everything about my HK unit, knew the sound characteristics I wanted for that system and they nailed the pairing again. I called and left a message about getting a stereo preamp repaired. Vince (the owner?) called me back. From the word go I knew I was dealing with an unstable individual. I don't care how talented or gifted you may be... When you talk over your customer and then start yelling at them because they don't want unnecessary information (I'm a busy person too, Vince), you're going to lose my business. I'm glad I read the other reviews, I was puzzled by the phone call I had with Vince yesterday. You see, you can't actually order anything on-line, he needs to call you up and, well, I'm not sure. Vince is stupefyingly rude, I can't remember the last time an adult talked over me like this. Add that I could be a paying customer, and he is just oblivious to how he talks to people. That alone is enough for me not to do business with him, but he does some very special stunts, too. I've been hot-rodding stereo gear for a few decades, I'm an engineer and I try to be open to input but will be not dismissed by anyone. He starts explaining to me that my old Revox A77 needs recapping and why. I know why, I've worked on solid state gear for 40 years and tubed equipment for 30 years, I used MIL-HDBK-1131 as a guide starting in the late 1980's, seriously, this isn't new to me. I told him I had a well-respected vendor go through my deck about 4 years ago and I think it's OK for quite a while. He immediately tells me that this vendor is overpriced. Maybe, but now he just insulted both a competitor and my judgement. He tries to impress me with his knowledge, and either he is too loose with some of the technical terms or he doesn't actually know what he is saying. Let's say he is being too casual in his terminology - OK - I try to understand what he means and offer my view - again he talks over me and neither modifies his stance nor clarifies what he is saying. I'm not sure he knows (anymore) what he is talking about. Fine - this is who he is and at this point I could care less if he goes out of business tomorrow or if people think this is a cool & refreshing way for a repair shop to behave. I don't need his arrogance and attitude, so just look at this posting as another data point. read more

This place is probably great if you're already deep into audiophilia, on the level with the owner, or if you need something very old repaired. I am not that person, so take or leave this review accordingly. To me, walking into a room full of (what I assume) is tough-to-find vintage gear that has no apparent organizing principle is not great, but your mileage may vary. I needed a reasonably nice pair of headphones, was in the neighborhood, and stopped in. I walked out with a reasonably nice pair of headphones (good!) but it was a really disorienting experience: the store is totally bursting with stuff, it's not clear what is and isn't for sale (some stuff is in for maintenance), and there aren't prices on anything. If you're (incredibly) knowledgeable and can handle the garage-sale approach, you'll have a great time here. If you're not, I don't know what your odds are. I came out pretty well, but I don't get the feeling that everyone does. Also, for what it's worth (and referencing the other reviews here), the owner was perfectly nice to me. I gave this place another chance. As soon as I got here a very nice person greeted me. The owner was in the back. Being very hostile. It looks like he was stressed out. So his associate saw my product.he said let's talk to the owner. So I did. He complemented me on my VHS player. We agreed on the terms and prices. We agreed that the price was appropriate. Then once we finished talking. The owner said I will not take your player. REALLY! WHY? He was like...uhhh... Well I said I will tell everyone absolutely do not come here! read more

I brought my father's vintage receiver in for repair. I paid the $40 deposit and was told it would be at least 2 weeks. 2 weeks later I get a call from the shop and am told that it will be simply too expensive to repair and not worth the repair costs or time. I was made to feel like I shouldn't have wasted their time with it in the first place. Had I received my deposit back, I might have felt differently, but why would I ever want to do business here again--I assume I'll just get the same runaround about possibly bad equipment and they'll take my $40 again. No thanks. Based on all the other reviews, it's pretty clear to me that if the owner is happy/in a good mood/likes you/approves of your equipment, you have a good experience. But if not, you have a bad experience. That's really no way to conduct a business that is customer-service based. read more

Vince, Ken, and the crew at AudioProz are the great! Brought in a CD player that I had knocked the tray out of whack on and they did a great job at repairing in timely manner. They also breathed new life into an old pair of KLH Model 17 speakers, including oiling the cabinets and finding new grilles to replace the old damaged ones. They sound better than ever!! read more

My Sony CD player needed repair so brought it in to Audio Proz. It wasn't repairable so purchased refurbished Sony CD player for very reasonable price. It is even compatible with my old remote. I would definitely recommend these guys!! read more
