We ordered Black Truffle Duck, Jelly Fish, mushroom rice, beef cube noodles, Angus rib eye, and the saute okra with black garlic. The okra dish tasted the best out of the bunch. Unlike traditional Chinese restaurants, the tea is not free. A teapot of Chrysanthemum tea cost $10, but it comes with free refills. It is very pricy almost double the price of other pretty good restaurants. Wow the reviews for this place are polarizing. I thought the service was fine and the food came out really quickly. Two of the 3 dishes we tried were actually quite good - the mushrooms + rice in the clay pot and the beef short rib. We started with some cucumber salad as an app and wouldn't recommend it, the sauce was weirdly sweet. The mushrooms and rice were a very generous portion - tons of mushrooms that had great flavor. The guy who brought it to our table insisted on mixing up the rice and mushrooms for us and putting it in our bowls, which was kind of strange. Maybe he didn't trust us to mix it properly ourselves? The beef short rib was incredible. Super rich and tender due to all of the fat, and it just melted in your mouth. Overpriced, hit or miss dishes with variable quality but one of the most inventive menus in New York's Chinatown. I came with my family for dinner on a Saturday night after hearing good things. Despite having made a reservation, we still had to wait ten minutes. The place was packed, so I would recommend calling ahead. At first they seated us in this tiny table in the corner right under the AC, and we were freezing, so they moved us to a much bigger table in the middle of the dining room. The service is outstanding, especially for Chinatown. However the food is not all that good. - Wild Octopus with Teriyaki Sauce ($35). Soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, but overly salty and a very small portion for the price. - Grilled Berkshire Pork Belly ($18). This was too tough and hard to chew, no good. - Baby Spinach with Bacon ($19). This was good but also a tiny portion for the price. - Zucchini Eel Rice ($38). This was my favorite dish of the night. There were four long strips of eel cooked very nicely, and the bottom of the rice was nice and crusty. It was comparable to the eel rice I've had in Japan. Also, they charge taxes and calculate tip on the "complimentary" appetizer and dessert, which was also lukewarm, literally and figuratively. That means you're actually paying for it. We ordered the Sautéed Broccolini, Steamed Japanese Scallops, and the Braised Angus Rib Steak. When I tell you that I couldn't believe that each dish just gets better- it made me believe. The broccolini was sautéed in a ginger garlic onion soy sauce that was amazing with the crisps. The scallops sat on a bed of sea glass noodles which had no taste, but the garlic bits on top of the juicy scallops complimented everything together. The star of the dish was the Braised Angus Rib Steak. I have never tasted a more tender and juicy steak in my life ever. The sauce had a roasted sweet flavor which was amazing with white rice. The dish even came with little fried tips and bits of the steak! We also received complimentary red bean sweet soup, and I've got to say, it's the best one I've ever had in my life. It's actually creamy and smooth, and goes down easy. I would come back and try more on the menu. I never had papaya incorporated in my dish before so it was interesting, and didn't taste overpowering with the beef. I wish they gave more beef as there were barely any pieces.
