Was walking around San Juan with my kids looking for some place to eat while it's raining and every place was busy. Came across this place, which was completely empty so was a little weary to go in but decided to try it cause we needed to eat. Best thing ever! I had the pork tacos. The pork was so juicy and moist and the ingredients were so fresh. My son had a cheese quesadilla and would almost say the quesadilla was tooo cheesy. My daughter had chicken fingers and french fries and the portions were huge. Best meal ever! read more

The salsa and chips was if you took the grocery store jar salsa and the guacamole was a paste. My husband ordered the beef quesadillas and the cheese wasn't even melted and they cut the tortilla was a "sandwich style" so it fell apart when he picked it up, who does that?? This place has gone downhill in a hurry. The servings are still large, but as commented by others, the food is bland with little Mexican flavor. Your only choice for a little picante is a bottle of Louisiana-made Tabasco sauce placed on the table. You do not need to be Mexican to be offended by this. To top it all, the owner is intentionally printing the suggested tip chart on the invoice based on the total INCLUDING TAX. This restaurant was awesome!!! My family and I stopped there for a late lunch yesterday. We are so glad that we found this place. The atmosphere is great. Very colorful and very authentic. The waitresses and staff were awesome. They were very friendly and very helpful. They even made my son a special chorro con tres leches that he loved. The food was great!!!! I loved my burrito. I didn't eat here I just came for drinks ! The bartender was really nice ! his name was steve. We sat down in the bar and he gave us the menu for drinks. Happy hour Margaritas $ 5 Beer -1 and the second one was free. Pretty good for the area! Old San Juan is one of the most expensive areas in the whole island. We started with frozen coconut margaritas ! great choice ! they were great ! 2 round ! jalapeño margaritas ! wow!amazing ! the bartender recommend on the rocks but I already tried one on the rocks (in another restaurant ) and I was in the mood for frozen margaritas. Came to this spot after touring San Juan. It took us 1.5 hours to just get our meal. The server kept saying it was due to the kitchen being backed up, even though there was only 7 tables seated at the restaurant. Even the appetizers took an hour to come out. When our food came out it was cold. The beans looked like it was squeezed out of a tube. Food was subpar. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Server was rude when we questioned what was taking so long. Had additional charges on our bill that we never asked for or received, and was told we were lying when we brought it to their attention. Terrible establishment, terrible service. read more

We're in Old San Juan for one night after a trans-Atlantic cruise. We wandered around a bit and decided Mexican food sounded good, so ended up at Aureola. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The servers are friendly, but it was the blandest Mexican food I've ever had. I had pork enchiladas and my hubby had shrimp enchiladas. The pork was tasty but dry. The shrimp were undercooked. The cheese on top appeared to be canned cheese sauce and was as tasteless as can be. Or are these people high AF and don't understand that Tacos are one of the most sacred dishes for a calimexirican, like myself! I ordered the steak fajitas and the place was empty, which was referenced in two other reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. The strawberry margarita I had was great, as were the steak fajitas. Youre better off going to Chili's. The food is pretty much microwaved stuff & the service was horrendous. There was no one there when we went except for one other table but the waiter continued to tell us how overwhelmed she was because she was alone. She made no adjustments to the menu and was offended that we even asked. (The adjustment was to make the tacos with corn tortillas instead of flour). We waited almost 45 minutes for our food, and it was such poor quality we only stayed because we didn't have time to go somewhere else. The food was poor quality, and less authentic than Taco Bell. Bad cheese, and the "sizzling" steak fajitas showed up not sizzling, sitting in a puddle of liquid, and undercooked. The onions were not cooked at all. We also ordered a salad and 20 minutes after bringing the salad they asked if we wanted dressing. We said yes, and 10 minutes later he came back and said they were out of it. I had a very artistic coconut dessert Coco Kiki Rico at the beautiful bar there last weekend. It's a special place with great atmosphere, great decor, and good creative caribbean cuisine. Stopped in for a few appetizers while touring Old San Juan. This place is near El Morro. The ambiance was nice, a dimly lit interior, which was a cool reprieve from the sun. It also had an outdoor section where the men enjoyed a cigar. I ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer for $10.50. Four 3" mushrooms amply stuffed with a dark brown stuffing of interesting complex flavor. When I asked details, our server explained it was a Puerto Rican Blood Sausage with ground rice and spices. That turned some of our table off - as blood sausage is not for the faint-of-heart. Highlight was the bread served with homemade garlic & cilantro mayonnaise. I'd go back for that alone. Our table also had the Mahi Mahi Kebobs, that all agreed were too heavily spiced. Also some unremarkable ceasar salad and clams. Downside is we got pushed into a liter of Fiji water - they tried to put 2 liters on the table, and we returned one. The cost was $7.00, which I though was fairly steep. We had to correct them when the bill showed (2) at $14.00, ouch. Definitely tring to gouge the tourists. read more

A vegetarian's happy place! First off the two ladies working here were amazing and made some phenomenal mojitos for us. Secondly the beans here are vegetarian and the nacho plate/enchilada plate was packed with vegetables. Tables are spaced out well to adhere to social distancing and the ladies were thoroughly cleaning all the tables. Prime location in Old San Juan at San Sebastián Street. Please don't mind the negative reviews - the food was fresh/homemade and enjoyable. Love and would highly recommend! read more

I love Mexican food so I was excited when I came across this place. When my friend and I entered, the restaurant was fairly empty. I should have taken that as a warning. The food was bland and had no flavor. The only good thing that I ordered were the French fries which were average. It's not really hard to get a quesadilla wrong but it is possible. The chicken had no flavor. My friends chicken tacos were the same, no flavor. We had to drench our meals with salsa to give it flavor. I do not recommend this place for food. read more

It was cool and dark which was nice after a morning of walking around Old San Juan in the sun and the wind The food was fine. You have to pay for chips and salsa (which wasn't fresh, but a restaurant version of Pace). The burritos are supposedly huge so we got kids burritos and my friend got fish tacos. Bad esperience. Charges us $18 for a double glass of Dewars 12 whiskey (bottle costs around $25), which had us paying and astronomical $60 pp to eat a burrito and two drinks. Never again. We are locals and will not recommend this abusive tourist trap to anyone. Avoid at all costs! Ok, so I came here after having a bad experience next door. The tacos were good, but the service was top notch!! Dylan was absolutely amazing and saved the night for us!! We asked about Mallorca and he went to the bakery down the way to check if they had any!!!! I was shocked that he would do that for us! This is an absolute and undeniable tourist-trap of a restaurant. Stay away! Your stomach, patience, and pockets will all thank you for sparing them the hurt, time wasted, and outrageous cost of dining here. While the menu may offer up familiar Mexican dishes, it's all lost in translation once it reaches your table. For example, most Mexican dishes include rice -- here, rice is an additional side you will need to pay for -- in ways beyond money. I ordered an Al Pastor Burrito. There we absolutely nothing resembling pork cooked with pineapples in whatever excuse I got for a burrito. What I did get was a whole lot of wilted chopped lettuce and tomatoes along with something that I believe was suppose to be beans. About 3 bites into this awful "Mexican" meal, I already felt the rumbles in my stomach and knew I would be in for a much longer night with the porcelain god if I dared finish this meal. My family members' meals were no better including the enchiladas upon which were completely covered in what I can best describe as white Cheese Wiz. Forget about the guacamole and the refried beans they tout as being "made in-house". Both are unforgettably horrible and will also have you making a bee-line for the bathroom soon after consuming either. And, as if all of that wasn't bad enough, this place can't even get a Margarita right. DO NOT ORDER THEIR HOUSE MARGARITA -- unless you are in the mood for a diabetic-shock-inducing limeade. When we asked why these were so sweet, we were told it was the mix they use. We were also told that if we wanted a stronger drink, we had to ask for it when we originally ordered. Lastly, as if having to endure a horrible, overpriced, and fake Mexican meal wasn't enough, we had to put up with the insufferable, rigid, and insecure supervisor, Jennifer. I was very surprised with this restaurant. My wife & I were getting a little tired of your typical Puerto Rican fare (everything fried & heavy) & we stumbled upon this spot as we walked around Old San Juan. Very nice decor, comfortable seats, very nice ambiance. We started with Tostones Rellenos de Ceviche ( fried plantain cups filled with ceviche) which were outstanding. For the main course my wife & I shared a Ceviche Mixto (mixed seafood ceviche) which came with tostones which was equally as good. For desert we shared a Coco Kiko Rico which is prepared by the chef & also very good, not too sweet with hints of coconut. read more

Ok, so we didn't quite intend to go to Aureola...you might not even believe the story of how we got here , but here goes.: We were trying to find a place to eat on 3 Kings Day (PR shuts down), and our first few attempts didn't succeed. This woman comes up to us, identifies herself as a lesbian swim coach form a northeast school and wants to find a gay bar. Despite her excellent gaydar, we were still pretty unhelpful, so she practically carries us into Aureola*, raving about what a great dinner she had there last night. Anyway, we enjoyed ourselves. Our server was truly outstanding (and pretty cute). He was incredibly attentive, unfailingly polite, and perhaps flirting just a little bit. He did say hi might join us at Lupulo for a beer afterward. This seriously was the best service I've had in a long time. The food was generally pretty good, (3.5 stars) although not quite up to the standards of Airenumo. We started with Queso Fundito, which was ground beef and cheese served with chips. It was quite a disappointment that the chips were not housemade, but it was still good. We split an entree of carnitas, also served with chips. The carnitas was pretty spot-on and we heartily enjoyed it. For our beverage, we had an incredibly tasty pitcher of white sangria which was perfect for the warm weather and spicy food. Very refreshing, lots of real fruit. I was a little surprised when we got the bill, as the prices were not listed anywhere, and the pitcher clocked in at $28 (more than our total food bill). It was a generous portion, but not a fan of the "tourist surprise" pricing strategy. Anyway, the food was pretty good, the drinks were tasty and pricy, and the service was outstanding. I've seen several guidebooks that list this place as a trendy "fusion" restaurant. There's is nothing fusion or trendy about it...it's a good, honest, Mexican restaurant, maybe with a little Puerto Rican flavor. As a bonus, you're close to Taberna Lupulo, which is an amazing beer bar (see my other review). *Ok, now that the real review is over, it's time to be childish. Total dump. We had had a long walk and were starving, and this was the first place we saw that didn't look too divey. We went inside and were told to grab a table anywhere. Fine. The restaurant was mostly empty, but service was very slow. We helped ourselves to menus. It took them about fifteen minutes before they came by to take our order. Lots of flies. When the guy wiped down the table next to us, we almost barfed because his wet towel stank so bad. I doubt they've ever washed that thing. At this point we're getting concerned about the sanitation of the food... I had asked for some water, and he gave me a tiny tumbler glass full of ice and a little water. I asked for a bigger glass, and he refused. Fu man, I'm 7 months pregnant and its 84 degrees outside, I need water! I asked for a water glass with no ice. Never came. I asked for a water refill, never came. After 30 min of waiting for our food, The bartender took pity on us and tried to track it down. He accidentally brought out chips and salsa instead of picko de gallo and guac. The salsa looked so nasty, like Heinz ketchup with some onions. At this point we decided to leave. The server told us we weren't allowed to leave, and that the salads we had ordered would be coming 'soon'. We got in an argument, and the kinder bartender ended up telling us we could go. The server cursed in Spanish. That was the end of the experience. Walk down the street two blocks, there are way nicer places near the church.
