Dr. Winston misread my mammogram and I lost 1 year that I could had treated my cancer. She apologized the following year and said the cancer was there in last year's mammogram but she missed it. Later I learned that it was because she didn't run a part of the software, that the software identifies areas of concern. She also did a biopsy that hurt like hell, pushing in the needle several times to get into the mass. On the positive side, the place is nice and I very much prefer dr. Plaxco. If you like poor management and unethical billing practices, this is the place for you. Any "good" service at my appointment was far outweighed by the complete unresponsiveness in customer service. I received an outrageous, surprise bill FOUR months after my exam. After calling them out on their attempt at insurance fraud, I received a revised outrageous bill but still NO response to any of my questions or concerns regarding their service or billing practices. I sent a second letter, again without any verbal or written response. If you care about your health or your money, stay away from this horrendous business. They have no idea how to manage a business or provide even basic customer care. If they can't handle those basic items, I have no idea how they'd find cancer in your breasts. read more

The billing office did the claims wrong with my insurance company due to a known issue of filing under wrong provider. That took me months to work out and I finally got the billed paid. They resubmitted the claim 6 months later under wrong provider, and then resubmitted again 5 months after that under the wrong provider, so now it looks like I owe way more money again. Why are they resubmitting claims multiple times for a paid bill? I have never dealt with such a billing nightmare before. Beware going here. read more

Terrible. I had previously gone to ARA and found out that my insurance no longer was accepted with them. Never an issue with communication for the many years that I've used them. I have to go every 6 months because I have a spot that the team has been watching. So there's always a pins and needles feeling thinking could this be the time I find out worst case scenario. My appointment was at the beginning of last week. I have been checking my email, phone and regular mail for my results. I've called three days in a row, left numerous voicemails and nothing. When calling you can select the numbers for each line and i've left messages several different ones. This morning I called back again and #4 or #5 directs you to the south Austin location. I was finally able to speak with the sweetest young lady. She was able to pull up my information and i found out that the office didn't click on the box to allow the information to be sent to me. She went in and corrected and helped put me at ease. I understand when you are working for a company your sense of urgency goes out of the door when it's an everyday occurrence, but there are a lot of people out there relying on a quick and speedy delivery of their results. The thoughts of what if... has gone through everyone's minds about one thing or another. I will not be using Austin Breast Imaging Again. My advice for the company...Be better! Be Better for those women that this could be the time and they are waiting for you to respond!!! read more

My appointment was at 8am. I was in my car pulling out of the parking lot by 8:15. Office is bright, clean, and comfortable. Technician was professional and warm. She immediately put me at ease. I first went to Austin Breast Imaging on William Cannon in 2021. All was fine. Now in 2023 I cannot recommend them at all. if you are expecting them to keep your appointment - forget about it. Not once, not twice, but now three times - they have called me to cancel. Mind you I have to take time out of work to go to them as they don't have Saturday hours. This review is being posted as they finally pushed me to the limit today. At around 4;05 pm they called to cancel my appointment tomorrow at 1:00 pm!!! I had no chance to recoup a lost appointment and work. As you know, doctors offices require 24 hour notice or you are charged. I have no recourse to charge them but I told them that I will be posting this review to warn others that they are completely unreliable. Their excuse? Short- staffed with radiologists but they just found out minutes before closing??? I dont think so. They just have zero respect for their clients' time. Don't waste your time. Go to ARA although they suck too but in different ways. read more

I just left after having my first mammogram at Austin Breast Imagining. They were so fast! A delightful woman called me back quickly and gave me instructions. I waited a couple of minutes in a beautifully decorated area before the exam. I was walking back to my car 15 minutes after my appointment time. I'm definitely going back next year! read more

This is my first time here and I am highly satisfied with my visit. I was able to get an appointment next day, staff is professional and prompt, the facility itself is beautiful. You feel like you're in a spa. They do a great job of making you feel safe and relaxed. I was in and out in about 35 minutes. They will also review your scans with you a few minutes after you've taken them which is awesome. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I only went here because of a referral from my doctor. They have no idea how to bill insurance companies which leaves you with a huge bill! I have had numerous mammograms done and I have never seen a bill for how much they charge! Insurance covers my mammograms at 100% but due to their error in coding it left me responsible for an unnecessary bill. After numerous phone calls no one has ever called me back. Had to pay it so it didn't end up on my credit but still fighting and leaving messages trying to get someone to call me back so I can at least be reimbursed! I don't ever expect them to call! I recommend to never go here. I had a follow up mammogram since the first one at Austin OBGYN said I needed one and recommended I go to Austin Breast Imaging. After reading several bad reviews on the billing, I called them to see how much it would be since my insurance does not cover diagnostic work. They said it would be no more than $250. Guess what?!?! I got hit with a bill for over $700!! My insurance apparently covered $200 or so but I still have a bill for $450. When I called to talk to Rose imaging, who billed me, they conveniently could not help me since their system was down and I tried several times that day. I called Austin Breast Imaging and spoke to Tonya who says if I had not said I had insurance it would have cost only $207 but since they already went through my insurance, there was nothing they could do. This is ridiculous! I tried everything I could to make sure I did not get ripped off and still it happened. If you're on a strict budget like I am, do not waste your money or at least tell them you don't have insurance. They said I can make monthly payments but it's a hard pill to swallow that I have to pay more than double just because I pay to have insurance. Deeply disappointed read more

Imagine my surprise when I called to schedule a breast mammogram and the girl who answered said they would be glad to schedule once I made an appointment and had a physical with my doctor. It has been extremely difficult to schedule an appointment, the staff is rude, and honestly, getting a mammogram shouldn't be this hard. The office is very nice and comfortable, even if the large bra artwork on the walls is...interesting. They have changing rooms, personal lockers, and a nice waiting area for sitting around in your semi-open gown. I needed a mammogram and ultrasound. My ultrasound was conducted in a separate room with two doors on opposite ends. While the ultrasound tech was working, I heard a knock on the door and it immediately opened without any pause. Apparently the doctor went into the wrong room? Anyway, she apologized quickly and left. I was slightly annoyed but got over it. Once the tech was finished, I was left alone in the room to clean off the rest of the goop from my chest. Or at least I was alone until yet another person walked in on me, this time from the other door. The employee didn't apologize or say anything. She just closed the door. I'm really not liking this. Can't people knock and wait for an answer? Can't they install a light or some device that lets you know the room is occupied? read more

I called to make an appointment for my annual mammogram. My insurance had changed since my last visit so my first question was do you take my new insurance? She said yes. Then she asked for my insurance card information. We made the appointment and all seemed good - all set, no problems. Then I get there for my appointment and the lady asks for my card and ID. Then she hands them back to me and kind of secretly says "umm, ma'am we're out of network with your insurance." I said "I SPECIFICALLY called to make sure you take my insurance." She said, "well we take your insurance but it's out of network." What the heck!!! Why was it important to tell me this now but not important when I made the appointment and asked????? I call this bait and switch. Very sneaky and wrong. What am I supposed to do when I have already called, already took time off work and already drove 30 minutes in traffic??? I was trapped, not really an option at this point. DO NOT trust these people when making your appointment and asking if your insurance is accepted. Nobody wants out of network so don't even use that as an excuse. If I ask if you take my insurance, my main purpose in knowing that is because of payment - so out of network is basically like NOT having insurance. So disappointed. I expect better. read more

Caveat emptor. If cost is of any concern to you, check directly with your insurance plan provider to determine whether Austin Breast Imaging (ABI) is in network for your plan. While ABI will bill your insurance, they may not be in network for your plan which means they are not governed by any service cost maximums your plan may stipulate. In this case, agreeing to their services may be equivalent to writing a blank check. In fact we asked ABI if they were in network for our plan, ABI stated that they were but a call to our plan provider revealed they were not. read more

I decided to schedule my first mammogram since having extensive surgery to my breasts. I had implants removed and a breast reduction and lift which causes a lot of scar tissue. When the results came back, I was told the attending physician recommended that I go back and get additional imaging to my right breast. I decided to have the results forwarded to my family doctor. She scheduled the additional screening to happen at ARA since that is who she works with. One month later and countless calls by my doctor, ARA and myself and this outfit still has not released the images to ARA. ARA will not do the additional imaging without the images from Austin Breast. No one returns my calls. I'm not sure what to do at this point accept show up there in person and demand my images. read more

First of all, this place looks like you are walking into a really nice spa. You forget why you are there, as the ambiance is calming and peaceful. The staff is courteous, professional, and prompt, and were happy to answer any questions. They even have sparkling water and light bites to nibble on as you wait in the chandelier filled waiting area. Truly a delight! I feel a little weird about writing a review for a medical facility, but I feel compelled to. I chose this center, since it is one of the few places in Austin have that currently have a 3-D imaging machine. Mammograms are generally an uncomfortable and stressful you-only-do-it-cuz-you-gotta type of thing, but this place made me comfortable from the first. From the moment you walk in, each person that you deal with is just the right combo of professional and warm - not so abrupt and brisk that you feel like they don't care and not so warm that they are gushing all over you. The front office decor is very feminine and looks more like a lobby of a boutique hotel than a breast imaging office. Once you are checked in, they whisk you into changing rooms where you not only don the usual pink-front-opening-vest/gown-thingies, but also the plushest robe I've ever had on. (I'm not kidding - I looked up the brand on the tag & am going to purchase one when I get home.) You get a locker to put your stuff in, then you get to relax in the interior waiting room. There is soothing zen music playing, cookies & biscotti on the table, huge banquette couches, flavor-infused waters, all wrapped up in a room the color of a Tiffany box. The place is only missing ocean breezes! I was so relaxed when I was waiting for the tech that I was a little bummed when she came and got me for the procedure. Although there's nothing to be done about the fact that getting a mammogram involves some boob yoga and some uncomfortable/vulnerable positions, Lisa was the best tech, never tugging and pushy. The equipment was really something else - the imaging process was faster, and it was cool to see the moving scans pop up immediately on the screen. Also, the entire place was spotless. There are imaging facilities that are much closer to my home, but I will definitely opt to return here, even after closer facilities start getting a 3-D machine. The way the patients are treated was just top-notch! read more

The experience was wonderful from check-in to exit - only thing missing is the massage (which maybe in the future will be an option!). Everyone was so friendly and professional - the staff couldn't do enough for you. The 3-D mammography is state-of-the-art and especially beneficial for those with dense breast tissue. The outside waiting room is lovely - the inside waiting room is even better - feels like a spa - I could have stayed there all day. Robes are provided to wear over the gowns, which is a real treat and adds to the ambiance of being in a special, comforting, and calming atmosphere. I'd give them a 10 if I could! As a woman of 69 years old, I have had many mammograms in my lifetime. It has always felt totally utilitarian. I have to say my experience with ABI was anything but utilitarian. First, the staff is the most friendly I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Very professional and attentive. The atmosphere is very serene and relaxingly spa like. While there I had 3 different procedures and all technicians made me feel cared about and comfortable. Never... in all my years... have I had a doctor come in after completion of my imaging and discuss the results of the imaging! I've almost always had to wait for a week for them to send the results to my primary care doctor to hear the results from him. Never again! I was initially really annoyed to have to drive all the way from Buda to North Austin just to have all 3 done at the same location (because of insurance)! Special thanks to Misty C for her exceptional customer service in getting approval with my insurance company when my Dr.'s office dropped the ball and even after her calls to my Dr.'s office went unanswered! That kind of customer service is almost unheard of these days. After the experience I had with the employees at this location, I'll make that drive from now on and be glad to do it! read more

I'm so glad I chose to go here for my imaging! I'm high risk with a mother who died of breast cancer and I have a lot of fear around getting my yearly screening. Austin Breast Specialists made this experience so much less stressful for me. They are compassionate, informative, and patient and their facilities are relaxing and comfortable. After having such an excellent experience here, I will probably never go anywhere else. I also don't have insurance and they are great about letting you know how much everything will cost in advance. I thought it was extremely reasonable in comparison to other clinics. If you have any fear of screening like I do, this is the place to go! read more

The office is nice but the billing department is a nightmare! My doctor ordered a full mammogram but for some reason I only got my right breast imaged and got a ultrasound on both breasts. I was assured they would use the CPT codes we discussed prior to my appointment. I confirmed them with two billing department people and Amanda in the actual office. For some reason they didn't use any of the CPT codes we discussed and agreed upon so the billing was messed up and what should have cost me nothing has cost me plenty in time (close to 4 yes 4 hours now) and aggravation trying to get it cleared up- as well as money!! Good luck getting through to billing department! I was on hold for over an hour the first time. My insurance company called them with me but after an hour and 15 minutes my insurance company said they couldn't be on hold any longer. I left a message but no one called me back. I haven't go a revised bill and it's been a month so I just called to pay my balance and was disconnected when transferred to pay. I called back and after being on hold for another 10 minutes they said they couldn't take my payment at this time. I spoke with the office director (Denise I think) about a month ago and told her my experience with their billing department and she said she would get it taken care of but after 45 minutes I am still unable to pay my bill and my blood pressure is up for the third time with this company. I just wanted to pay my bill and be done with all these people but I can't even do that. They haven't sent me a revised bill so I'm not sure how they plan on getting paid. I called the office and Amanda put me on hold for another 10 minutes to talk with the director again so I hung up and called the corporate office but they didn't seem to care much either so good luck to this company!! I got a mammogram, which should have been paid in full. I provided my full insurance information. Then I got a bill for $763. My insurance United apparently denied my coverage, stating that I must go through a "coordination of benefits." Since I have no other health insurance, there was no insurance to coordinate. Rose Imaging kept sending me a bill for $763. Then in Oct I called Tina at United to "coordinate my benefits."Several months later I got another bill for $763 stating that they would then give my case to a collections agency. I called back and the Rose Imaging person called United, who apologized profusely that they forgot to coordinate my benefits. I asked why the imaging cost $763 in the first place for a 20-minute image. Rose Imaging stated that the non-insurance price tag was only $254. It's absolutely wrong that they charge 3 x more than cost and then we must pay $900/month for insurance. Do you know how many people are bankrupt and homeless because of medical bills? Do you know how many women put off a mammogram because they can't afford it then get cancer. I'm furious. Warning: take notes of every phone call and every name of the person you talked to or you might be stuck paying 3 x the price. read more

My experience at ABI was unlike any other imaging experience I have ever had. I am an oncology rehab therapist and therefore have had a lot of experience with imaging centers both personally and professionally. The center is beautiful with a spa-like atmosphere. Getting a mammogram can be extremely stressful. However, the environment at ABI was calming and I truly felt taken care of. The staff is kind, empathetic and highly skilled. The radiologist Dr. Winston reviewed my imaging while I was there and came out and spoke with me personally about the image findings. She took her time answering all of my question. To have your results given to you while you wait, immediately after your mammogram is rare and incredible. I cannot say enough about the quality of care and service I received at ABI. I will never get imaging anywhere else and will tell all of my patients about this wonderful center. read more

This company has went down hill since the new management has taken over. When I arrived in the office this year to take my mom for her yearly mammogram the front desk was very unorganized and they just played around a lot. It didn't seem very professional. I thought it was weird when I noticed all the employees is one race, usually you see all kind of race culture working the medical office. When I asked if any one speaks Spanish to help my mom when she goes to the back for her mammogram the response was no. Since having this bad experience I will no longer take my mom to Austin Breast. read more

Absolutely amazing!!! I was greeted first thing walking in the door. The center is beautiful, the staff is amazing, kind, and friendly. No false pretenses here, these people genuinely care about their patients. I had my mammogram done by Lisa who is wonderful, I'll never go anywhere else. The Director of the center is always available to answer questions or address concerns. I'm so grateful we have Austin Breast Imaging now. read more
