Richard Sperling has been my gastroenterologist for a long time and I go every year for check ups. He always listens to my concerns and follows up with me. When he performs endoscopy or colonoscopy, his medical staff is the nicest around! The only way I would go elsewhere is if they stopped accepting my World Trade Center National Responder Program. The only annoying thing about this place is I literally live 1 block away down Shoal Creek and they require me to find someone to pick me up. Its always hilarious getting a friend to drive me literally less than a block away when I can walk just fine. read more

Three years ago I started having difficulty swallowing and was referred to AG and Dr. Ellis. After a couple of dilations and multiple tests we discovered I had a "jackhammer" esophagus. Dr. Ellis is amazing and after several attempts to fix the problem we finally found the right remedy to solve the issue. The team working the office are great. The appointments were easy to make, the accounting dept. had all of the insurance and co-pays organized and Jennifer and Kara were the best. I love the patient portal because I was able to set appointments ask questions in minutes. Dr. Ellis was sincere in his care for me. He expressed several times how he wanted this to be fixed. Good news is I've not had a spasm in weeks. Amazing care! read more

Following my review of Dr. Dabaghi and the Austin Gastroenterology Center, Gregoria H. "reviewed" the Center and directed much of her information to me. There's more to this story, Gregoria. 1) During my preliminary meeting with Dr. Dabaghi, I suggested that it might be better to skip the anesthesia for the procedure altogether. Dr. Dabaghi's reaction to that suggestion was so negative that I dropped it. He made me feel like what I was suggesting was madness. Weeks later, I learned that another patient of Dr Dabaghi's had had the same procedure (a routine colonoscopy) with no anesthesia, but that she'd had to argue with Dr. Dabaghi to convince him to do it. 2) Dr. Dabaghi's assistant and Dr. Dabaghi blew off my complaint about an acrid chemical smell just prior to sedation by calling it "bad air." BAD AIR? Heck, I grew up in Mexico City and I know bad air when I smell it. This was not bad air... it was some gross chemical being introduced to my nostrils by Dr. Dabaghi and his staff. read more

So of course nobody WANTS to need to see a Gastro specialist. It's typically not under the best of circumstances- not gonna lie. However, my experience thus far with Dr Chele and the entire staff has been phenomenal. So far, my appointments have been as close to on time as I could ever expect which is so refreshing. The front office staff is friendly and fast. The physician assistants - I've worked with both Lorenzo and Brianna- are thorough and kind. Even the person in billing that I've met with (I want to say Danielle?) was wonderful. The doctor I am working with, Dr Chele is through and listens. He explains the course of action and seems committed to my continued improvement. This office is a 45 minute drive from my house. There are options closer to me but I wouldn't change. read more

Why does everyone work here has attitude? From check-in to schedulers. Is it too hard to make proper eye contact and smile? Leave your attitude at home, stay professional. Dr. Ellis is an incredible doctor. My Mother passed away from colon cancer 16 years ago and I have been terrified of colonoscopies and doctors ever since. I also have had a series of alarming symptoms, at least to me for the past five years but never worked up the courage to get an endoscopy. I had the blessing of being paired up with Dr. Ellis as my doctor two years ago when I was trying to get some digestive issues addressed; and went to Austin Gastroenterology. He is witty, has a great sense of humor, and will immediately put you at ease. Most importantly, he cares about his patients. I felt comfortable with him as my Dr. right off the bat and the most amazing thing is despite the fact I repeatedly canceled my colonoscopy tons of times due to fear; it was ultimately his confidence in his diagnosis of me from our first meeting, and how comfortable he made me about a procedure I was terrified about to finally get me to go for my colonoscopy two days ago. After two years of delaying, everything he told me in our first meeting about what his impression/diagnosis of what was causing my symptoms was true. Luckily, I didn't have polyps at all. Anyone who needs a colonoscopy or endoscopy please see Dr. Ellis. He is one of the best doctors I have encountered and am grateful to God that he was able to treat me plus empower me to finally get a colonoscopy. Thank you Austin Gastroenterology for helping me take my life back. You guys are amazing... and thank you once again Dr. Ellis for being such an amazing doctor. Dr. Richard Sperling has been my gastroenterologist for 10+ years. He's an excellent diagnostician whom I trust implicitly. When other Dr's gave up re: a painful gastro issue, Sperling nailed the cause and it truly changed my life. I bought him a floral arrangement and a card. I've never done anything like this before. I was diagnosed with Celiac by a blood test and was referred to Austin Gastro. Here are the reasons that this was a terrible experience: 1. Things were off to a bad start with a very rude young lady booking my appointment. She was so rude that I almost didn't set the appointment, but decided to proceed anyway. Over a week later (the day before my appointment) Austin Gastro called and said my insurance requires a different referral and that I had to see my primary care doctor first. All of that set my appointment with Dr. Duddempudi back another week. 2. Day of my appointment, I waited in the lobby for 35 minutes before being called into a room. 3. The room was dirty. The floors and walls had black scuff marks everywhere, the paper on the table hadn't been changed. The table looked ancient and I hoped I didn't have to sit on it. There was none of the typical generic art or decor that most doctor's offices have. It was old, outdated wall paper with holes in the walls where screws and old phone jacks used to be. This is when I started getting that inner voice feeling that I needed to leave. 4. This next thing isn't huge but the woman who took my vitals was asking me some very casual questions about what the covid vaccine was like, which gave me a very strong impression that she wasn't vaccinated. As a type 1 diabetic, that really bothered me. 5. After another 10 minutes, Dr. Duddempudi came in (so we are at 45 minutes after my appointment time now.) Dr. Duddempudi was nice and made me feel a little better. She said I needed an endoscopy and said she could "overbook me" to get me in on Monday. I didn't know exactly what that meant but it seemed nice that she was making an effort to get me in quickly. 6. It was when I received my consultation for payment that things went back downhill and never recovered. Danielle was SO rude. She looked at the paper and then at me and said "Dr. Duddempudi already has another endoscopy at 2:00 on Monday." As if I was supposed to know how to solve that problem. I stuttered around and said the doctor mentioned something about overbooking but I didn't know what that meant. Danielle then said to me "She didn't even write down where you're supposed to go. Where are you doing this?" Uhh...again, I don't know. Danielle then called someone and told me she "guessed" Dr. Diddempudi was double booking me and another patient to both have an endoscopy at the same time. As she rudely went on about how I have to pay the Dr almost $500, plus anesthesia, plus the facility fee (which she couldn't tell me a price for) I slowly backed out of my chair and left. Nothing about this place felt right. The staff was rude (oh I'm talking about you Danielle!) the room looked filthy, the wait time was ridiculous (perhaps this is because they have no problem "double booking" people) and my inner voice told me to run away and never come back. I sat in the parking lot and booked an appointment with Austin Regional. I'm $70 poorer after wasting a co-pay, and I have to wait another two weeks but I'd rather wait a little longer than have a doctor rush through a surgical procedure because they double booked me on top of someone else. read more

I felt doctor Duddempuddi was very thorough, very patient and compassionate. The staff was friendly and considerate.

TL;DR - Do not start care here. They don't respond to voice mails, it takes literally hours on hold to reach an appointment scheduler, their offices are marked as open on the website with hours, but actually closed, their staff blames technology for their mistakes, and the managers wouldn't talk to me without me being asked to wait an indefinite amount of time more than the three hours I already had. I can't contact them.  I'm trying to get a screening colonoscopy.  A consult is required first, and that, they were supposed to contact me to set it up.  I didn't hear from them for two weeks, so I called them.  I waited on hold for 30 minutes and, when they finally answered, it was to transfer me to a voicemail. I left one and never heard back.  Two months later, my wife had her procedure and I told Dr. Pham I was still unscheduled.  Got a phone call later that day. Unfortunately, I needed to change it.  I called again, and waited 45 minutes before being disconnected.  I called back and began waiting again.  After an hour on hold, I tried walking in to a local office to schedule in person, but it was closed and empty despite it being listed as open during normal business hours - midmorning.  Drove next to the procedure center, where they sent me to a third office, this, the Anderson office. While approaching, at 1:58 on the call, Debbie answered and asked how she could help. I said hello, realized I was on mute after two hours and travelling, and by the time I unmuted it, Debbie had hung up on me without another word. Maybe five seconds after two hours on hold. At that point, I was in the office and had to wait to be helped. I asked for an office manager at the same time. They told me one was at lunch, and another was in an interview, but they'd meet with me after I changed my appointment. I was shown back to meet... Debbie. In person, she efficiently changed my appointment to a better time. I told her about my phone call and she blamed the phone system, rather than owning her hang up. It hangs up on people sometimes, she said. She did apologize "for the phone system" again before I left. Perhaps it was the phone system. It's that or someone else hung up on me the first time too. Neither the office manager nor assistant met with me in the end. Both were busy and they said I could wait but wouldn't tell me if it was 5 minutes or 30 or an hour I was being asked to wait. I chose not to - three hours waiting for them in one day was enough. In the end, it took three hours of my time, two hours and 45 minutes on hold and visiting three office to get my appointment changed. I don't trust their voicemail or patient portal after they didn't respond to me the first time I used them - don't make the same mistake twice. I didn't want to appear as a no-show if they didn't process the messages. Dr. Pham is great.  Their staff is unable to schedule a procedure for me in any reasonable way. I'll keep this appointment, but no more, ever. read more

If you've got an appointment here, be prepared to schedule 2 hours out of your day so that you can wait in the waiting room for an hour and a half, then talk to a nurse for 10 minutes, wait another 15 for a doctor to see you, then talk to the absentminded doctor for 5 minutes before he writes you a prescription for something and tells you to come back in a month. I don't feel welcome here. I feel like these doctors overbook their days and inevitably run long on previous appointments, so if you get here in the early afternoon you're SOL and have to wait and wait and wait. And since they're already running late, they spend a few minutes looking at your chart and talking at you before approving what the nurse suggested and jotted down as a course of "treatment." For what it's worth, the prescription provided to me has been somewhat helpful, though not effective ENOUGH... but I think there's more to it than just taking a pill and hoping that it'll go away. I would like to explore more options, but I hate this place and can't stand to go back, waste my time, and feel like one in a herd of cattle. EDITED to add: I ran out of my prescription and called the office to refill it. An automated message informed me that I needed to send a fax through my pharmacy to request a refill. I had my pharmacy request my refill TWICE via fax and it's been TWO MONTHS and no response. So I'm not taking any medication for my IBS anymore. And I'm definitely not going here again unless I need a colonoscopy or something (doubtful, for many years at least). read more

My biggest concern was that during my first appointment with Dr. Dabaghi, he asked me most questions twice, and one question he asked five separate times during the appointment. It was a very frustrating experience. He either wasn't listening or wasn't retaining. Either way, I'm VERY concerned about putting my health in his hands. Secondly, the office staff/procedures needs to join this century. When they first called me, they left a voicemail saying they wanted to set up an appointment. I called back and was told that they couldn't set up an appointment because something with my referral was pending from my PCP, which was confusing since they had first called me to schedule something. I asked if they could briefly call my PCP to get it straightened out and she told me they would definitely not. So round and round we went trying to get an initial appointment. Then, when I showed up for the appointment, the gentleman at the desk took my ID and credit card and said it would take a minute and to sit down. I sat for 15 minutes then asked him if they were done processing the cards. He said he had forgotten to do it because of a rush of patients which came in, and he had sent a later appointment in front of me because they hadn't recorded that I was there yet. He was nice enough and well-intended, but not well-trained. I've never been asked by a doctor's office to leave my cards and pick them up later. So I was over 30 minutes late into my appointment, and was very late getting back to work. read more

I went to see Anupama Duddempudi with severe symptom of swelling, bloating, and pain. The doctor dismissed me and told me, "thats how I was built - I could not digest food well - and I was 'too young' to have a serious conversation about the symptoms. Although they had been getting more severe over 6 months they would "blow over" at my age (mid 20s). The doctor told me it was Friday 4 pm and she needed to go get her daughter. When I asked to speak more about some of my pains she said it was useless -- that my body's structure wouldn't change. My entire visit was under 5 mins. I requested to see another doctor and Austin Gastro denied. ******After this experience I went to the Gastro at St. Davids - I have a severe case of Sibo and IBS paired with pelvic floor dysfunction and have been put on medicine and a plan which released 80% of my symptoms in 3 weeks. The doc agreed the symptoms were very troubling and we had both a CT with contracts and a pelvic MRI. ****** Whatever you do PLEASE do not go see this doctor. She truly doesn't care about her patients and their well being. I had symptoms which were debilitating to my life and daily activities and if I had listened to her I would still be in the same boat. read more

My two stars are very generous. I do agree with the other yelp review that they are the mafia of GI doctors. They are centrally located, that gives them a star. Cons: - very hard to make an appointment - My doctor "S" was very rude, and talked down to me (since I am not a doctor I must not have a brain). - I have heard good reviews about other doctors in the group, when I tried to change doctors with in the group (which is a no-no, so make sure you look into your doctor before making an appointment with just any guy), is still in the process of changing and takes around 2 weeks to get the "approval" to switch docs... Very frustrating. I am in the search for a good gastro not in this group, I am tired of waiting for my "switch" of doctors! read more

The following sums up my personal experiences at the 34th St. location: Patient UNfriendly. They seemed to have an anti-patient attitude and relish it. Very rude, *snarky,* condescending staff with POMPOUS, cold, indifferent attitudes. As an acutely ill patient at the time, they treated me like a lowly form of life, undeserving of common courtesy or respect. Every staff member I've interacted with there, from front desk on back, acted as if MD stands for Medical Deity and as if "patient" is a vastly inferior life form. The attitudes I experienced from the staff at A.G. (medical and non-medical) were self-aggrandizing to the max. I had bad to awful experiences with the doctor I saw there and they do *not* allow patients to change doctors within their practice, which is something I've never heard of before. The doc you saw initially is the one you're stuck with, like it or lump it. It's their way or the highway. Sadly, no one at AG on 34th seems to care if they drive patients away with their awful anti-patient attitudes and draconian policies. As a person with ill-health, I've been to many medical facilities and unfortunately AG on 34th St is a prime example of everything that can go wrong with big box, institutionalized, monopolizing, 'too big for their britches,' conveyer belt medicine. Based on my experiences, it's well worth the effort to find a G.I. doc in a smaller, private practice not affiliated with A.G., who actually prioritizes patient quality of care and basic common courtesy towards the patient, even if it means a longer drive or going out of your way to do it. read more

I can't write for the other GI doctors here - just for Dr. Mona Lin Ridgeway. This is a large group of doctors so who knows how they are in an appointment. I have seen Dr. Ridgeway 3 times, each time worsens. She hands out prescriptions like candy before letting me talk about my concerns. She is brusque, blunt but non-explanatory for why she is doing things (like prescribing medication and procedures). Digestive/GI issues are often complex, have multiple things going on and very personal - all of which she has NO interest. I almost left in tears she was so dismissive and I am not like that usually. All I ask is for the doctor to maybe get some background info on what's going on, listen, and give thoughtful medical advice. I asked her for lifestyle changes besides medication and she said she's not the doctor to talk to for those! Yikes! The staff was quick if that is helpful....if anyone has great suggestions for someone to see, message me! read more

I just wrote up my review of Dr. K. Ellis who is a part of Austin Gastro. I have been a patient for over 5 years and put up with a lot. Some visits were great, but more and more it was like I was bothering them by coming in. Staff is rude, waits are incredibly long, and Dr. Ellis runs in and out so fast it's not funny. I think I only got as far as I did in treatment because I learned to speak up and flat out ask for an answer... BUT - today was the last straw - I called in for an appt with Dr. Ellis for my chronic condition which just took a severe turn for the worse only to be told I COULD NOT MAKE AN APPOINTMENT with the Dr. only with the PA! So enough of feeling fortunate and lucky that they will allow me the privilege of paying to sit in their waiting room and being treated poorly. I'm not sure where I'm going next, but it's time for a change. read more

I am not sure if it's because you aren't trained in this field as you should be or if you just like mistreating sick people. One day your office will have to answer to such incredible behavior. Until then I will continue to let everyone know the truth about your lack of care. Don't you realize that it's wrong? Do you find comfort in hurting others? In my case when you started talking to other doctors about my care your office crossed a very important line. Very disappointed. Do not recommend. Rude desk staff, both when I called to make an appointment and when I checked in. Doctor was running behind and then I only met with the PA. Overall, was at the appointment for over an hour but only spoke to the PA for maybe 15 minutes. Never even saw the Doctor and they still requested I make an appointment to come back and pay full co-pay. I came in with a concern that was not at all resolved. Waste of time and money. read more

Dr. Richard Sperling literally saved my life a few days ago. Massive internal bleeding in Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital caused them to call EMS. Dr. Sperling stopped the bleeding, directed five blood transfusions and lots of fluids interveiounsly. After one week, am back in Central Texas Rehab Hospital and scheduled to return home August 8, 2016...Prior to this, Dr Sperling performed two or three ( forgot exact number) colonoscopies on me every 5 years. Dr. Pham is probably one of the kindest, most genuine, and honest physicians we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He was quick, but extremely thorough, and made sure all of our questions were answered, and his plan was communicated. The nursing/medical staff was easy to work with, and the staff at the endoscopy center was absolutely stellar! The men and women on the OR and nursing staff were so caring, so attentive, and so genuine, and made my husband feel comfortable during a scary, and uncomfortable time. We had some issues with some of the front office staff, and getting answers/return calls from the business office. They were all quite rude and when my husband checked in for his procedure, they called and scolded him for not being there after he had been waiting 20 minutes, then accused him of lying about where he was, until they realized it was their mistake, yet never apologized. However Dr. Pham and his staff far outshine any of the negatives issues we had to deal with. read more

I noticed that someone here gave Scott Becker a particularly bad review. I am currently on this site looking for a good gastroenterologist. Her review brought to my mind my own experience with Dr. Becker some years ago. It might have been for my GERD that I saw him. I don't recall the details, but my experience was extremely consistent with hers. The man was extremely arrogant, and I ended up no longer his patient in short order. I don't know that every member of the office staff was rude, but basically everyone there was pretty unhelpful and had an arrogant attttude. Now, I think I did at some later time see a different Austin Gastroenterology doctor at the south Austin location. I recall that because I had ever seen a different doctor with the practice in the past, he had to beg Scott Becker for permission to take me on as a patient; that wasn't just up to him and myself, which means the practice itself has fundamental issues. I also found him somewhat arrogant and impatient, but he was also knowledgeable and I think I got appropriate treatment from him. I wish I could recall his name. read more

Hello! I am here to review Dr. Anupama Duddempudi. I have had a problem digesting food for years, vomiting, constipation, etc. I have also had a severe eating disorder that has caused damage to my stomach. Over the past several MONTHS. (this is tmi) I have only gone to the bathroom 1 time every 7-8 days (only assisted by an enema). I also have symptoms of pain, nausea, and feeling like I ate a thanksgiving dinner after eating a small amount. First off, Dr. D is not responsive. I have sent messages and called in extreme pain with no response, except short responses from a woman named Ashley, but no communication from a doctor. Second, hearing about my medical history including several hospitalizations, Dr. D decided I was still too young to have a problem and although my primary chronic illness doctor recommended a colonoscopy, Dr. D decided no because I am so young. If this was a newer problem for me I would understand but because this has been going on 4,5 months, I think that is different. Dr. D did however do a few things. She put me on a medicine that the insurance would not approve. Both the insurance company and the pharmacy tried to call her. No response from Dr. D. She prescribed me an xray (with concerning results) but was again hard to reach (I did not hear anything from Dr. D. Two weeks of pain later she prescribes me a different medicine. You should know that she was not available to answer any questions, and did not explain the medicine at all. I took it and had a reaction that landed me in the ER. Dr. D did not answer any messages from when I first started having a bad reaction. Luckily a lovely Nurse Practitioner Dorothy Cheng helped me and told me to go to the ER, and even went above and beyond and talked with the ER doctor. The ER doctor was alot more concerned than Dr. D about my GI issues. She first gave me a CT, fluids, iv zofran, and talked to me. She then prescribed a medication for gastroparesis. She agreed with my primary that i need not only a colonoscopy but the motility testing for gastroparesis. She said these tests can all be done outpatient unless things get worse, but if I have a good doctor they will help me. Knowing that I need further testing I know I can not see Dr. D because she is unresponsive, dismissive, and frankly does not spark a whole lot of confidence. read more

I saw Dr, Ridgeway a few months ago due to some GI issues. On the 1st visit she seemed rushed and hardly gave me eye contact. I was very disappointed because I waited for this appointment for a very long time. WARNING. ..because she is the only female doctor, she's very much in demand by female patients. I don't consider myself a needy patient so I gave her the benefit of the doubt and followed up with the tests she requested. Those thankfully came back normal but I still had the issues I initially saw her for. I was disappointed that no one followed up with me. She should have been more attentive. Thankfully my OB/GYN has been caring and very concerned about my issue. She sent me for more imaging testing and recommended I follow up with a GI specialist. No way I would go back to her!!!! read more

I have lived in 3 different states and experienced many different GI doctors and I would place Dr. Mona Lin Ridgeway up there with the best. Dr. Ridgeway is considerate, her staffs (especially Lisa) are superior and the care level is fantastic. I have had a few flare-ups and staff's response is incredibly quick and thoughtful. I have to get monthly lab work and Lisa always contacts me shortly after my lab work with the results. Lisa has even called me on a Friday evening after 7:00PM to make sure I was doing okay during a bad episode, I have never had a doctor's office care as much. read more

I had my first colonoscopy/endoscopy dual procedure in 2015 and Dr. Sperling and his staff there at Austin Endoscopy were truly wonderful -- and made my first time experience with these procedures somehow undaunting and worry-free (it was made painless and very easy). My care was top notch and has remained so. I have been in recently to see Dr. Sperling about a recent problem and his care and expertise were, per usual, at the forefront of my care. Mixed experience at Austin Gastroenterology. The doctors I met for the consult were pleasant, provided solid information about the procedure and how to prep for it, and answered my questions satisfactorily. However, their computers were "down" that morning, thus I was unable to schedule the procedure. I was told to call back in a couple of days. Two days later I called the scheduler. She wasn't at her desk, so I left a message. No return call. The next day, I called again; no scheduler, and again no return call after leaving a message. Finally I called the doctor's assistant and she got me scheduled. Then I discovered that I wasn't given the prep instructions on the day of the consult, per routine. I called Austin Gastroenterology about this, and another staff person said, "Oh sorry, we'll send the instructions to you via e-mail." (I'd signed up for the patient portal, but for reasons unknown, it wasn't permitting me to communicate with AG.) I gave my e-mail address and waited. And waited. It never arrived (or was never sent ... ). Running out of patience, I went to the web site, looked around for 15-20 minutes, and found the instructions I needed. The procedure itself went smoothly, but the run-up was plagued by truly awful patient service. Maybe it was just an anomaly. But maybe not. read more
