Overall, I wouldn't recommend Austin Wedding Planners. We went with the wedding advisor package. We found them generally unwilling to provide opinions (I would ask questions about something and all I'd get back is "well every vendor does things differently"). They were overly pushy about preferred vendors (for instance, I heard from our venue who were contracted to provide our table settings that Austin Wedding Planners tried to get them to use one of Austin Wedding Planner's preferred vendors without talking to me about it) and they made some expensive oversights with the vendors that they'd recommended. For instance: They insisted a florist they suggested would not give us an a la carte (vs. full design) package. They did. We reached out to a florist AWP recommended with a minimum for full design. When we got that quote back it was clear they were struggling to get to that number and were suggesting more florals than we actually wanted. I saw they also offer a la carte options. I asked Rosa to ask about it. She said no, that that was only for elopements. I was really excited about them so I emailed them directly to ask if it would be an option. They immediately agreed. After I told Austin Wedding Planners the florist would do a la carte for us Rosa called me stressing out. Who would set up and break down the flowers? I said we would figure it out after our call with them. It turns out they were able to do both for a modest fee. Another instance, Austin Wedding Planners said our tenting company would not allow our venue to set up lighting in the tent. They did. I asked our venue which had string lights if they'd be able to set up lighting in our tent (our rain back up plan). The venue said yes. Rosa said no--that the tenting company wouldn't allow it. I followed up with the tenting company (who were not on the call). They said our venue could set up the lights. These two things would have cost us over $4000 if we hadn't followed up. Is it possible these vendors gave me different answers than they gave Austin Wedding Planners or they changed their policies recently? Sure. But given the premise of the advisor package is that you have a relationship with these vendors you should be getting me better deals not worse ones than if I negotiated on my own. Austin Wedding Planners have clearly been doing this for a long time and I think if you needed a day of planner this could still be a good pick for you. read more

Cinco de Mayo wedding, all because there is just so much to say and could not possibly express in words how amazing they are. Rosa and Richard are both miracle workers! I contacted Rosa less than 2 months before my wedding, and she was my main point of contact who jumped right into planning. I can't tell you how many qualities these folks possess - strong work ethic, diligent, detail oriented, flexible, and always thoughtful of her clients. I'm a very particular person who gets involved in a lot of details with very high standards. She surpassed my expectations! There are a lot of examples I can list but will focus on a couple of specific things that happened that show how they are the absolute best in town, and the reason you should hire Austin Wedding Planners. An entertainment vendor of mine cancelled on me the day before the event. Rosa called assuring me she already had a backup person aligned without me needing to find someone else myself. What a relief! My husband had left the party favors we were supposed to put together back at the venue the night before. At that point I just said F it, guess guests wont be getting our awesome party favors.... To my surprise, when we arrived the day of, without even asking, her team had helped assemble and package the favors! This was an example of them going above and beyond whatever I expected. I initially posted a scathing review for Austin Wedding Planners and I'm now inclined to revisit that review. The majority of my negative experiences with Austin Wedding Planners surrounded one particular contact, an owner of the business. I've now learned that this particular owner is mostly involved with another planning company that she owns, and a new partner is working with Austin Wedding Planners. I can't in good faith leave the terrible review for this company when the person that earned that review has moved on. The new owner reached out to me to attempt to resolve the situation and that is far more than I can say for my original contact. This new person seems genuinely interested in her business and I believe that she is working tirelessly to improve the business' image and standards of customer service. Based on my interraction with the new owners, I will give them 3 stars, and I wish I had more to base my rating on. After reviewing my contracts, technically I was under contract to the other company that the original owner owns. So you can see my scathing review posted in the appropriate location. The common denominator is the old owner, that's who I wouldn't do business with if I were you. As for the new owner, I would ask to speak to her current/past clients for referrals. I don't think that anything negative that you find on Yelp before February 2010 is a true representation of the way the new owner runs her business. Let's give her a fresh start! read more

Rosa Gibson- To say the least, she was a "Life Saver" for me while trying to plan my wedding. I was never one of those girls who grew up planning every detail of their wedding day. I planned our wedding held at the beautiful Star Hill Ranch in Austin from New York. It was an extreme challenge to say the least living so far away. I was on a tight budget and did not have room really for a full blown planner, though that would have been awesome. I decided to make room in the budget for at least a day-of planner / coordinator (TRUST ME, you have to understand this is VITAL!). I searched high and low (I was big on research throughout the entire process) and narrowed down to two. I was lucky to meet Rosa from Austin Wedding Planners in person on one of my trips to Austin. She was so delightful and we were on the same page. When I explained my vision for my wedding she was genuinely excited and wanted to work with us. We had a personal connection and the choice for me was clear. I was able to compromise between hiring Rosa as a full wedding planner, (which I wish I could have) and a day-of coordinator only, and found a package that was a "Wedding Consultant". That worked perfectly for me. Again, life would have been so much easier had I been able to hire her as a full time wedding planner! Regardless, this worked well for us because she worked with me on the budget. And she has years and years of experience. To me, that really made all the difference. If you're like most brides, you have never planned a wedding, and need some professional help. Your friends and mom can help, sure, but it's not the same. With the package I got with Rosa, I owned the relationships with all the vendors, but Rosa was copied on every single email that I sent to the various vendors, and she helped me through it all. She started helping me in July 2012, and our wedding was in April 2013. Most coordinators/consultants don't start engaging with you in a big way until 2-3 months leading up to the wedding day. Rosa was there for me for a full 9 months! I could not have done it without her. On the month of, and then the week of, Rosa was completely in charge. I gave her all contracts (there were SO many - side tip, try to consolidate your vendors! Just so hard to handle so many), and she coordinated a walk-through with the vendors as well as was the point person as it got closer to the big day. On the rehearsal day, she was ON it. We all just let her take charge, but she made sure she took all our wants and needs into account. Which brings up another important point. With all the vendors (especially the caterer), Rosa made sure she stood up for me and made sure my voice was heard. Some vendors were slightly pushy, and she stood her ground with the things that I really wanted. I appreciated that so much about her. Lastly, on the day-of, Rosa and her assistants were outstanding. My wife and I consulted Rosa rather late in our own planning stage (previously thinking we could do the day-of-coordination ourselves... HA HA HA). With only 30 days until the date, Rosa and her team was able to efficiently get up to speed on our wedding details, synchronize with our vendors, and work on our wedding day schedule/routine details. I hired Rosa Gibson for 'Day of' planning services a year and a half before my wedding day, this past September. I wanted a planner partially because firstly I do not live in Austin, and secondly I did not want my family to have to concern themselves with coordinating vendors on the day of the wedding. During our year and a-half of planning efforts Rosa kept in constant contact with me regarding vendor choices and my day-of timeline. She also kept in touch with my mother who was helping me out with the hiring and coordinating of additional items. Her vendor recommendations were excellent and her vigilance regarding my planning schedule and day of timeline was as well. On our Big Day, Rosa was very calm and watched over myself and my husband to ensure that we were able to enjoy our wedding day instead of answering a million questions from everyone that we had hired to run our day.
