There's a good mix of bric a brac and as with all these types of op shops you never know what you will find. So I kept looking through the racks and racks of clothes and shoes but nothing of interest for me there. Some succulents out the front except for one very unusual plant but I didn't buy it, plus stacks of hats, fluffy toys, etc. But I did find something for $2.50 which I had been looking for several months ago and paid the brand new price of $45.00 for non other than a 'bread slice guide'...grrrr.

I got a porcelain jug for $2, some jewellry for $4 for 4 pieces, and a ginger pot for $1. Plus books. Staff are completely lovely. This is a great shop that's a bit of a TARDIS--it's bigger on the inside. In fact, there is what one of the lovely ladies called "a treasure room" out the back, so don't think it's just the front part, there's this extra bit out the back with bric-a-brac, shoes, vintage clothes and other things. Then near the change rooms, there's another little hidden room, with cushions, sheets, blankets and baby things. Really great little store and this is another must visit again on my op shop list.

With opulent furnishings and slightly twee homeware offerings, Laura Ashley has always set the standards for classic and classy home decoration and styling. Laura Ashley also offers clothing for the fashionable lady about town and I always love the staff here when it comes to choosing the right piece. The sales assistants here, particularly the sassy owner, tell it like it is, and if a piece isn't sitting right or isn't flattering, expect to hear all about it. I'm always a fan of a store when you can walk in tell them the event and your dress size and have clothes suddenly piled on to you. Laura Ashley is a touch pricey but well worth it purely on quality and the style.

Facing onto Unley Road and just up from the Cremorne Hotel, the Laura Ashley front window is always decorated with an array of classically beautiful home decorating items. From linen to lighting and cushions to curtains, if you've got the budget, they've got the piece to make your home into something special. Don't be scared off by the prices though. I'm a dyed in the wool bargain hunter and will always wait for the Laura Ashley specials to appear before I pick up my special piece. And even though my budget just won't extend to that gorgeous winged back chair covered in an exquisite fabric, I still like to visit the store for ideas on what's in fashion. And then there's always the opportunity just to admire beautiful things from afar. If 70's retro is your style then Laura Ashley is not the place for you but if you dream of living in an old English cottage one day, then I'd pay them a visit. Clothes wise I really feel they've come a long way recently and they now have some great modern pieces in their range. Whereas once things were a little like your Nanna might wear, these days their style is much more in ilk of say Country Road or Witchery. The staff at the Metro store are great and will go out of their way to help you whether you're in the market for fashion or furnishings.

I've had many chats with the lovely owner Andrea, and she shares stories of each artisans products, from Australia and overseas. What draws me close to Storison is their concept of running a local co-op showcassing handcrafted products from Work At Home Mums, Stay At Home Mums, emerging designers and more! Storison also host pop up stalls outside their verandah. Here you'll find creative, unique and quirky handmade gifts, vintage wares, home made food and treats, delightful and soft tailored pillows with gorgeous prints and textures and more! Some of the eclectic labels carried here are Elkwood (my fav!!), Mulberry Ave, Sweet Cuddles and more. Uncoventional, creative, unique and a 'sui generis' of its own. Fortunately my Girlfriend, oddly enough, does wear womens clothing and spent quite some time in th the Replay Emporium.....which also meant that I spent quite some time there also. Yay for me. As is the case with most of these recycled clothing 'boutiques' the used rags they stock are not on the crap side of the scale. In fact there were a number of items that really made my eyes pop.....I mean my girlfriends eyes.....yeah, thats it. For those out there with a shoe fetish, there are a select few funky examples to drool over (none of them in a mens size 12 unfortunately).

Replay Emporium, ahhh what can I say?…read more I stumbled into this place for the first time when I was showing my visiting relatives around Hahndorf. Little did I know this place would soon capture me with its fashion, trinkets and accessories - not to mention squeeze the life out of my wallet... Walking in, the first things that caught my eye was the cute homeware decor to the right of the entrance. There sat different photo frames, necklace stands, mugs, vintage clothing hooks with such intricate detail, and much more. There were only about three small displays, but I swear I spent about half an hour looking at those alone. They weren't expensive either! I bought a beautiful ballerina jewellery stand and the vintage clothing hooks that are yet to be drilled into my bedroom wall. Next, the fashion. You would never know that this is a recycled clothing boutique. The clothes selected are still intact and of good quality. I bought a minkpink black dress and a cute pantsuit both for under $40. The rings and accessories in the cabinet displays are, however, on the more expensive side. I guess it's because they're hand made, not to mention unique in style. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who loves shopping, or a boyfriend looking for a gift perhaps..?

Vertice Boutique is another store that makes this extremely easy. The stuff here looks mostly fantastic, and, depending on my mood, I can rile myself up into a kind of excitement about it. I see something and convince myself I simply cannot WAIT to see how milady looks whilst I'm wearing it. It's all about playing mind games with yourself, people. But aside from the stock, one thing I love about the place is the lady who always seems to be on staff whenever I've been dragged to the store. She's funny as hell and always gives me shit for being there. She remembers my face and likes to joke around with me whenever I'm waiting for milady to try something on. She'll say things like, 'Make sure you tell her you like this one.' And whenever I walk into the store she looks at my expression and says, 'Oh, come on; it's not THAT bad.' It's the little things like this that makes the experience more... tolerable.

I've never seen an op shop setup to support a hospital before. This is very new to me…read more Anyway, it's an op shop so I may as well go in and have a look... The first thing that really stands out is the size... or the lack of it. It's not a very big store, let's be honest, and they don't really pack in all that much. I've been to smaller op shops that are full to the brim, and they're the ones I like to visit. In those stores you need to go digging to find hidden gems. Sadly that's not the case here. Maybe I'm being a bit unfair, as with op shops it just takes the right person to visit one and find something they may have spent years looking for. Don't take what I've been saying to heart. If you like to visit op shops then pay it a visit. After all, it's for a good cause.

For us on the other hand, we enjoy a bargain and sorting through for the find of the day, whether it's clothing, furniture or bric-a-brac. Much like a vintage store but without the vinage price tag! The staff are friendly and most are employed on a volunteer basis and doing a good deed for the community. If you would like to contribute some of your unwanted clothes or other stuff, there is a donation bin directly out the front. If it's full please don't leave it out the front instead wait for them to open and kindly give it to them. Leaving stuff out the front looks untidy, can get soiled in the weather and not to mention from passing four legged members of the community or be taken by someone else. Thank you

Last winter, I snapped a black leather jacket at the clearance rack for a mere 50cents. You heard me right. 50 cents. Ladies will go crazy over the women's section. Bountiful of fashionable tops, skirts, dresses, prom gowns, corporate gear and gorgeous pant suits for the working woman in you. Hip and funky accessories line shelves and wall brackets, all pleading to be worn and taken home. I've picked up some fabulous items here from my last visit. A wine rack which I turned into a shoe rack ($10), a cat painting ($5), kitchenware ($12) and tops (under $10). A must to visit if you haven't already. Add this to your next op shopping store list as there are plenty of op shops along the road and in the close vicinity.
