The kitchen is run by a professional, relaxed young Eastern European team and they also produce some Eastern European dishes as well as salads and pasta. We've tried the Cevapi (skinless sausages with onion and sour cream) and Sudzukice (veal sausage with paprika relish, onion and sour cream). They are served in half a somun (a soft chewy flatbread) and are delicious. We give a big thumbs up for their goat cheese, rocket and mushroom salad too. The service is efficient and friendly and we thought it was good value for money.

Our scallop and calamari pasta was bland and had to be spiced up with lots of Tabasco and chilli flakes. The lasagne was average but I suppose I just had higher expectations given the recommendations of the place. Since we've been inundated with different cooking shows on television, the home cook is a lot more adventurous making and tasting food. On the odd occasion, I even make my own pasta and store it in airtight containers. While the Roman Empire Bar probably doesn't beat fresh home-made pasta, it is a decent night out at a fair price.

Upon hearing that I had a shellfish allergy he went to inform the kitchen to minimise chances of cross contamination and suggested some dishes that would be safe for me. The owner was so warm and friendly, it was like dining at an old friends house with better food. The food was delicious. Everyone at our table was incredibly happy with their dish. The serving sizes were HUGE which was fantastic as we got doggy bags at the end of the meal. 10/10, the best dining experience I have had in a long time.

From what i've been told, the whole family helps run and make all menu items as well as hand making scrumptious looking cupcakes. The vintage feel creeps through with funny 1950's posters lining the walls. "Unattended children will receive and espresso and a free kitten" had to be my favourite. The other detail that really impressed me was the "what happened on this day in 1950?".. this was a compilation of all the events that happened on 'this day' 64 years ago. How clever!! So much effort, so much heart, so much dedication. I will try my best to come here to support this business whenever I'm in Carina Heights.
