Everything was cooked to perfection and was nicely balanced. The wine pairing is almost a steal with 30 EUR for a 5 course dinner. Portions are super generous and and the service is great.

Despite it's diminutive size though, they put out some good swabian food. The menu isn't terribly long, but they do have a decent list of daily specials, which we had success with. While they have copies of the menu itself in english, the daily specials will be verbally translated, not written down. The server's english on both visits was perfectly good, which is good since my German is extremely limited (schnitzel, brautwurst, currywurst, hefeweizen, and pils are about it). As far as food goes, the smoked salmon entree was a generous portion of smoked salmon, and the warm potato hash brown underneath it made it heartier than just a plate of smoked salmon. It seems like maultaschen is the best way to judge a swabian restaurant, so I went with that and was quite happy with it, although my favorite that I've had so far was at Gaststatte zum Paulaner in downtown. I also really appreciate that most of the meals here come with a side salad, and they dress it more with vinegar than with oil, so it feels more refreshing than most side salads in the US. The complementary plum brandy is a nice way to end the meal; whatever you do, don't shoot it (that would be rude), just sip and enjoy!

Walked into Ygrec after a long day of travel and I thought I had found my oasis. The alluring smell…read moreof spices tickled my nose and the labyrinth of rooms resembling caves made me feel instantly at home. I also heard only German in most of the restaurant, so I considered it to be popular with locals. They did not have an English menu and my downloaded German version of Google translate did not pick up the menu photo, perhaps because there was a lot of Greek, and light was very low. However, if you are willing to be flexible, play a bit of charades, and know some food words in other languages and/or are willing to be patient, you will be able to place an order. The server did not speak English (or German, but I don't speak that very well either.) but with her Italian and my Spanish and French, we figured it out. I ordered the grilled calamari. Prior to the meal I was given a dinner plate as a bread plate with a single green olive in the center and a very small drizzle of some amazing balsamic vinegar. Also placed on the table was a pepper and salt mill. Perhaps I made a mistake by sitting in what seemed to be mostly couples' territory, as I got little or no service once my meal was served. It is also possible that I had hairs in the grilled vegetables - my own hair was pulled back - and it happened twice, so it's difficult to discount that it is coming from the kitchen. Bottom line is that I loved the atmosphere, I think the food is decent, BUT the service needs a lot of work and the kitchen needs to make sure that there aren't foreign bodies in the food. I really wanted to like this restaurant, especially since I will be working in Ludwigsburg, but given my experience, I can barely rate it a two.

Our hostess spoke 4 languages, but not English, so we were served by a young lady who learned English at a Greek university. The food was wonderful. We had a mixed variety appetizer with about 8 different tastes and enough for 3 to share. The meals were well prepared and presented. And then there as the excellent wine list. Fine Greek wines at reasonable prices. A good variety. If you need a change from German food, thus is a place you need to go.
