Step into vintage era as the Aviation Museum welcomes you with their grand and majestic planes. I couldn't be more proud of Adelaide than this beautiful and humble museum.
Located in Port Adelaide, the museum is housed in a huge hangar and was pioneered by aviation enthusiasts who was interested in preserving aviation history and restoration of aircrafts.
With stunning displays of aircrafts, figther jets, fokkers and the very handsome Westland Wessex which was used in the Royal Australian Navy in the 60's, this is a perfect outing for the family and interstate guests.
An ardent fan of planes, I spent a good 3 hours here, perusing every aircraft, sitting in the seats of an old Boeing and playing "Pearl Harbour' in the chopper.
What a joy it was to stroke vintage leather seats, touch faded screen panels, and trace my fingers on the old peeled paint that onced carried the carrier's name.
With a huge array of floor displays, engine displays and my old time favourite, a corner filled with war wreckage, there is so much to take and absorb in this historical pieces.
The Museum is known for its restoration projects, take a peek at its website for ongoing projects or visit the grounds to see new finished projects.
I should also mention that they have a shop at their museum grounds, so be sure to pick up a plane model kit on your way out.
The Museum was given full accreditation by the History Trust of South Australia. Being a nonprofit and run by volunteers, I highly recommend this place to you. Come support a beautiful icon that makes Adelaide, extra special and loved. read more
