After reading all of the horror stories about professional interstate movers, we decided safer to DIY. When we started trying to find a company to hire a cargo van from, we found that most other well-known companies did not allow hire vehicles to go on the Spirit of Tasmania, or if they did, they wanted to charge us $1,000 one-way fee, among other issues. SMH were the cheapest and best option for us. I was upfront in telling them what we wished to do and for them, it was no problem. They could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We hired a Renault Master, which is automatic and uses diesel making it a comfortable and more economical trip. The office staff were fast and efficient when replying to our emails and calls. On one occasion, we had a flat tire and they had road-side service there to help us in no time. I was very nervous about using an unknown company, but now we have finished our trip and have safely returned the van. SMH have been nothing but wonderful. I have no hesitation in recommending them. You will not regret it. Good service, good price, no stress.

We had to badger Orana to follow up claims and update us, and the stress of this experience dragging on for 9 months, and the injustice of the outcome, caused great emotional distress - not to mention being out the $750 excess (thank God I paid extra to lower it) despite having in writing that Orana found us not at fault, has been and continues to be incredibly upsetting. For this reason, I will never be hiring a vehicle again - not worth the cost or the stress.
