Fun way to enjoy a windy cooler day! They have good parking availability and bathrooms. We paid the easy $2 per person and took our picnic snack up to watch everyone fishing and surfing. It is not very flat or accessible. read more

This is a must see attraction if you are in the area! For $2 per person, you can walk out on the pier as a spectator and check out the beautiful view. There is something about this particular pier that is so unique, mostly because it's rocky and crooked from all of the massive storms that it withstands! We came at a perfect time to see the sunset, so it's great for spectators but even more great if you're someone coming here to cast into the water. There seem to be a ton of fish caught off of this pier, and everyone appears to be having a great time! There were people of all ages here, and there are snacks/beverages along with a restroom inside. Food trucks are in the parking lot area but I'm not sure if the hours, they were closed around 8:30 when we arrived. There is a dessert truck that seems to be open later, that's all we saw. read more

The Avon Pier is a very cool place. The Avon Pier is just one part of a larger operation known as the Koru Village. The Village includes Villas, a restaurant (Pangea Tavern), a Spa, pools, beach front access and a playground! This includes a SeaLeaf Music Festival in August and many other musical events. The Pier also hosts the all women's charity fishing tournament, Fish Like A Girl, that benefits the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation. But back to the store at the Avon Pier. Our guy is Don, he explains the focus is on the fishing. He knows everything; what is hitting each day and what bait is best! He also keeps track of high and low tide. Don is extraordinarily friendly and helpful to everyone. Don's philosophy about humans is the same as Will Rogers: He never met a man he didn't like! The store offers bait, fishing lures, tee shirts, beer (individually and in packs) and a few tables for you to sit down enjoy a beer and get out of the heat. The Pier is known by the locals as the "Beer Pier" due to the one dollar Pabst Blue Ribbon cans (they also have Corona, Michelob Ultra and wine). read more

It's nice to visit the pier to see the view of the ocean but don't let the advertisements of a coffee shop called "the spoon" fool you! This is a gas station-esk fishing pier. It's fun to check out but I wish it was advertised in a more honest way. read more

I guess this pier is pretty darn good for fishing since there were so many, many people there doing just that, but we were just walking down the long, long pier enjoying the view (and not so much the sea gulls, who feed constantly by humans are somewhat aggressive and pesty!). If for no other reason than to be able to walk several hundred feet out and over the ocean, listen to the waves, and watch the gorgeous sea, stop by the Avon Pier for a little walk and maybe to sit awhile. It'll be the best buck you spend on your Outer Banks vacation. Admission to the Pier, $1. read more

Fishing pier has everything. Rod rentals, bait, beer, etc. You don't need a fishing license it is included in the fee so that's great if you're driving over from another state like Virginia. Caught a decent amount of fish while we were there. It felt like we were constantly doing something, hardly spending any time waiting because of how many bites we got, although about half were skates which we just put back. We are fairly novice and caught about 10 eatable fish that were all over a foot long. read more

Absolutely beautiful and well worth $1 to go on it. It is a piece of history and full of local fisherman. If you'd like to hear a real fishing tale, talk with one of them. Most are willing to talk and tell some great ones, and you'll learn about the area fish species. Only complaint we had were the crabby people behind the cash register. (Though they have a great dog behind the counter that has a lot of personality, workers should take lessons from their for legged friend! read more

Came here with a group of four for some day fishing. Very reasonable prices for fishing passes ($12), and they make it very easy and convenient with rods and bait ready to go. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable about what type of fish were biting at the time we arrived, so we could kind of know what to expect to catch if we got lucky. The pier itself was very roomy, so there was plenty of space to drop your line in to ensure it won't get tangled with your neighbor. The pier is old, and you can feel it swaying a bit, but that just adds to the charm in my opinion. On another note, I was also pleasantly surprised with their beer selection for sale! They go well beyond your basic domestic beer. I would definitely recommend fishing at the Avon Pier as a great day activity when vacationing in the OBX. read more

What nice nice people!! Can't believe how patience the folks who run the place were with us. We got our son (6yrs) and his two cousins (9 and 13 yrs) out fishing for the first time. They had everything we need and it was a great way to spend a few hours. Caught some little fish and some crabs. We even hooked a big fish but he got away (really!). read more

We stopped here for some night-fishing. They rent poles, so don't worry if you don't have one. While we didn't catch anything, we did get to see some rays at night, and one of the employees taught us how to hold a live crab. The people at Avon Fishing Pier are the GREATEST. Josh found my fishing pole and held it for me after I left it there yesterday. The service is WONDERFUL. Awesome place to go and enjoy the ocean and people watch. Two dollars gets you on the pier, and an ice cold PBR. Ten bucks if you actually want to fish. I enjoy just hanging out watching people fish, and enjoying the view. Never had much luck fishing, I hear it is decent in the fall though. Funny thing about the OBX fishing reports is, that they are always good no matter the time of year....you basically have to just see for yourself. read more

We have always fished on Nags Head Pier since we always stayed there. This year we are in Frisco on Hatteras Island so we went to the Avon Fishing Pier. Love Hatteras, hated Avon Fishing Pier. First it must have been badly damaged in a storm because you can see where new wood was installed. I get that. The main problem is the pier is not level at all. It's walking surface leans left or right at many points, up and down somewhat, and extremely terrible lighting. People were using flashlights and hat lights to see what they were doing. I tried to bait my hook and it was impossible to see. This is not a pier for older people with walking issues or anyone with disabilities. My husband has Parkinson's and it was very hard for him to walk. The poor lighting is unbelievably poor based on our experience at other piers. All that said, the pier was packed with people fishing! read more

Great fishing! Yes, this pier feels a little topsy-turvy, but you get used to the slanting boards after awhile. Caught lots of fish here- spanish mackerel, blues, cobia. Clean restrooms, friendly staff, and a shady spot under the pier if you get there early. read more

This is a famous old pier. If you don't fish you still need to just go out on it once. It is beautiful out there.
