He dismissed the victorian plan in favour of a modern open plan design, utilising space and light to form the large, yet comfortable and adaptable living spaces. Baillie Scott also designed every detail within the house. His use of traditional craft skills and simple enduring local materials is evident in the intricate carved oak panelling, stained glass, decorative plaster work, metalwork and fabric designs. From April to October they are open until 5pm. Entrance is £6.30 for Adults, £3.70 children and £16.80 for a family ticket.

The second time a heavily tattooed rather surly guy cut my hair. He was either unable, or couldn't be bothered, to make a decent job of a fairly simple cut. It's only open a few hours a day in the summertime, but if you're popping in for a castle tour, it's worth a visit. They usually have a lady inside dressed in period clothing, explaining how someone would have lived in a cottage that size. The museum is very tiny (watch your head, especially into the loft) and very hands-on. Every time I go, there are children in there looking totally enthralled, and the guide is always very good with them.
