Joe's is definitely an institution in Henley Beach, frequented by local celebrities and politicians having a quiet time out. Joe is a celebrity himself, everyone knows him and he certainly knows all the regulars. He loves to have a chat and put little Baci chocolates on the ladies coffees and gives out the odd chuppa chupp to the kid's of the regulars. Joe's daughter, Bianca, is delightful also and usually working in the cafe keeping Joe on track. The coffee is delicious and if you are into toasted sandwiches, his are the best I have ever tasted. The location is heaven, the beach here is pristine and, in summer there is a constant stream of people walking up the steps to order some refreshments. If you are looking for a place to have a coffee while the kids play safely on the beach this is as good as it gets. I love sitting at the outdoor tables soaking up the sun and atmosphere of the cafe and the beautiful surrounds. Word to the wise, in winter if the weather is bad Joe's is often closed as there is no indoor seating. Heaven on the beach.

Needless to say you will find all of the normal meaty goodness that you will find in most butchers, but they also have some prime cuts of high quality Angus and even some Wagu if you are lucky. There is also a very good selection of cured meats and silverside cuts that would suit thsoe with an older palet. I am a particular fan of their honey/soy marrinated chicken wings which have a very nice sticky consistency with an abundance of marinade. Stick them in the oven on 200-220 until they have just a bit of char and they go down an absoulte treat!

It's of the same high quality, the same low prices and we really stock up when we go here. My personal favourite item to buy is the burger. You put this bad boy in the frying pan and when you remove it, it's exactly the same size. There's no shrinkage. George Costanza would be proud. What more can I say? Every time we go shopping we stock up here for our meat, then the fruit and veg store, then Coles for whatever else we may need.

It's an outdoor market and due to some new re-development next to the Hart Mill, there is a fantastic playground for the kids and a lovely seating area. The market starts at 9am to 1pm and with food stalls, I highly recommend coming for a delicious breakfast. They have pop-up cafe serving fairtrade Campos coffee, there are also many food stalls with the emphasis on local. From Bakerhus pies and sweet pastries, raw bliss balls and of course a stall from the famous Port Adelaidean cafe, Red Lime Shack, who sell delicious smoothies and vegetarian delights. Stick around and listen to the buskers, then wander around and pick up some organic fruit and vegetables, grab a freshly pressed organic apple juice, perhaps purchase some seedlings to grow your own herbs and vegetables. Then back to one of the other food stalls for an early lunch! You can take the girl out of Port Adelaide, but you can't take Port Adelaide out of the girl! I am proud of the area and proud of how its evolving. The buns themselves look just as impressive as the stall, in other words pretty boring. But they are slightly sweet and filled with wonderful little tasteables such as BBQ or Sticky Pork, Curry Chicken, Custard and, the most unasuming of all (but the best) mini hot dogs....plus numerous others. I usually get myself a hot dog and a custard (for desert) and then lose myself in flavor country! The buns only cost pocket change (a couple of bucks), so there is no excuse not to give them a try. There does tend to be a bit of a line at lunch though!
