As most travelers know, there are times when you crave something delicious from home- regardless of where you are. That was the case this evening, after a concert, I was a bit hungry. I saw the sign for Azsteakus- a local and popular restaurant in Augsburg. After checking the menu, I saw they had an extensive list of burgers. The craving for something familiar struck and I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. Simply said, this was the worst hamburger I have ever had anywhere in the world- and I have had some bad ones! So many things were wrong. This being a steakhouse, I assumed they prepared their burger patties with fresh ground beef. No. My burger patty was a pre-formed patty with no more beef flavor than a frozen patty from the supermarket.
I ordered cheddar cheese. Frankly, I was happy about that because cheddar cheese is not always easy to find in Germany. What I received was a slice of thin, tasteless imitation cheddar like the sandwich cheese that is individually wrapped in plastic. The bun was heated onto the burger and likely microwaved. The good news is the lettuce and tomato were fresh. Honestly, if a steak restaurant can't spend the time to properly prepare something as simple as a burger (considering there is a whole lot of meat in a steakhouse), then that says something about the quality of this place.
To add insult to injury, the service was poor. Not once did the waitress stop at our table and check on our food or drinks. Suffice to say, I won't be back. Luckily, burger joints are opening throughout Augsburg. I'll try those when the urge for a burger strikes me again. I'm giving the place one star because there is nothing less. read more
