I have particularly curly/thick hair, and was struggling for a year to find a good barber in the city. I came in without a clear idea of what I wanted to do with my curly hair, and Joseph talked me through all my options. He is very experienced and is super open to any questions or suggestions. Booked an appointment for a hair cut and shave on February 22,2023 6:30pm appointment. The barber I can tell didn't want to cut my hair at first that was very un welcoming. He combed my hair with no water and was pulling my hair and ripping out the ends ends. If he had we t my hair it would have been easier to work with. The barber made a mistake and shaved part of my hair that wasn't supposed to happen. He began to correct his mistake. Instead of own to his mistake he later blamed it on me saying I have a missing patch and had to raise the tapered side. " your hair was just so puffy that it was hidden, and I was like what the fuck is going on. It caught me by surprise that you have a bald spot on the side" I know this is not true because I felt him make the mistake. At the end he was like oh you asked/ paid for a shave. When all I got was a hot towel and a cut with a buzzer. Not worth the 65$ I paid for. Be carful who you get at this place read more

I made my trek from the Upper West Side down to East Village to B&H- I sat down in Johnny's chair, I was nervous because I didn't know anyone. As I explained what I wanted to Johnny I accepted that the possibility of a fucked haircut- when he held the mirror behind my head I let out an audible "WOW" it was perfect. The atmosphere is that of NYC before Covid, it was lively, regulars having conversations and catching up, I was also offered a shot of whiskey! Not a drinker but nice touch. Haircut: (5/5) Although I didn't get my haircut from Josef, I am still very pleased with my haircut. The barber was very detailed with the entirety of the haircut. Due to my receding hairline, he cut the front with scissors and buzzed the rest. Usually barbers just buzz the entire head and I appreciate the detail given here. I also liked the fade very much and it shows that the haircuts are consistently good in the shop, no matter which barber you choose. This place relies more on appointments rather than walk-ins. Unfortunately, they can't tighten their appointment booking process. I've scheduled an appointment online on their website, but, as it turned out, the store was closed for the holidays. Why are you not updating your scheduling system accordingly? When I called today at 5pm to ask if they are open and have capacity, they told me to come at 6pm. When I arrived at 6pm, one of the barbers asked me if I have an appointment. I said yes, I called before and I should come at 6pm. I was waiting to see a barber until 6:45pm. Instead, they took other customers, who showed up after me first. Make up your mind, walk-ins or appointments. But if you go with the latter, implement a process that works! read more
