We stopped in later in the evening and were excited to find it open later than posted. I am really picky about Jamaican cuisine because so many people try to make it and fail because they cheat on the spices or don't cook it long enough. B&L nailed everything we tried that night. As I'm sitting here writing this review, I'm actually wishing I had a plate of their food in front of me. I'm craving it now that I'm thinking about it . . . Any way. I opted for the jerk chicken. Amazing when made well, annoying when made poorly. This was made well. Perfectly cooked. I asked for the spicy sauce. Not a ton of heat, but enough to make it a very enjoyable entree. I would 100% order it again. My sides were the sweet plantains and the cabbage. The sweet plantains were perfect. Dark, sweet, caramelized, with those little crisp bits that are so so so so tasty. Seriously, I'd stop there just to be the sweet plantains as a snack. And the cabbage . . . I couldn't stop eating it. It was so good. The seasoning was spot on, the cabbage had been cooked enough to be soft but not fall apart into mush. The cabbage was what I actually finished first. Because we thought they were closing minutes after we arrived, we ordered our food to go. The servings were good despite being in to-go containers. I hate places that skimp on orders when you put them in a container with a lid. Hubby wasn't hungry so he ordered one of the patties. Despite being late, it was still good. I'm not sure when they had been made, but it was the last one, tasted fantastic, and the crispy outside was flavorful. The woman helping us from behind the counter was incredibly nice and answered all of our questions. She gave great recommendations. We loved our food. My hubby tried my items and regretted not being hungry because he also loved the food I can't wait to return. Definitely two thumbs way up.

Traveling through Pennsylvania and wanted to see what kind of Jamaican cuisine they offer in the area. We seen this on doordash and decided to give it a try. 10/10!!!!!! We got the Jerk Chicken with cabbage and rice&peas. I got mines with mac and cheese as well. The jerk chicken was flavorful and juicy. the rice and peas were good and the cabbage was delicious!! the cabbage had a lot of flavor and a lil hint of spice. the mac and cheese was delicious as well, wasn't dry at all. OVERALL 10/10 I would definitely recommend if you're looking for authentic Jamaican food in the area!

My brother and I, along with our wives, were meeting at a halfway point between our houses. We found this cozy Carribean Restaurant and what a find it was! The food was delicious! Just enough spice on the Jerk Chicken to tingle my lips. I would definitely return if I find myself in Carlisle again.

First time customer and my family and I came less than 2 hour before closing, despite that the food was all still fresh and delicious! Personally i ordered the curry goat and the meat was soo tender, with a side of plantains the dish was perfect! The employee was nice and accommodating, helped us understand their menu. We dined in, while we ate out of styrofoam boxes it was still a nice little spot to have a meal, not to mention the prices are more than fair! Will definitely be back for more of that goat.

My first time ordering from B&LCaribbean. Many delicious sounding foods on their menu. I chose the "large" Fried Chicken that comes with three sides. I chose rice & peas, cabbage, and "best mac&cheese". Also ordered the Coco bread. I ordered at 7pm to be delivered. The food arrived at 8pm (I live literally 1.5 miles away.) It was at a great hot temperature, though! Happy about that. Smelled terrific! The cabbage was WAY too salty for my taste, and overcooked. Barely ate any, as all I could really taste was salt. That was disappointing. For what they call a large order, I got only two small pieces of chicken (one leg with barely any meat on it & one small thigh, which was almost burned.) The "best mac & cheese" was fine. The rice & peas were yummy & had flavor. The Coco bread was fine. I had also ordered the pulled pork, but they apparently didn't have any. All in all it was a disappointing meal. Overpriced for the amount of protein provided & for me still being hungry after the meal. Not sure if I'll try them again.

We were looking for a spot that had good vegetarian options for our friends. I'm not super familiar with Jamaican cuisine beyond Jerk Chicken and rice and peas so I tried to pick some things that sounded good. I ordered over the phone and they were very patient with me not being able to pronounce everything perfectly but they took their time and made sure to get our order completely. They were super friendly and the food was ready to pick up quickly! We tried the Coco Bread which was huge as well as nice and sweet and fluffy. We also tried a vegetarian patty which had a great flaky crust on the outside. Next we tried the Ital Stew which I wasn't sure what it would be exactly but he said it would be a variety of mixed vegetables. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and had a very mild but great flavor! There were so many of them in the portion as well! The rice and peas were tender yet not overcooked at all, and deliciously seasoned... they had a hint of heat in the aftertaste that was very pleasant. My sister got the Brown Stew chicken with mac and cheese and rice and peas. The brown stew chicken was HUGE... had a nice sweet flavor and the chicken was tender falling off the bone. The mac and cheese was very good. You can tell it's homemade, in a good way. Like your favorite aunt whos been making it for years made it for the cookout. The steamed callaloo was an unexpected favorite for the table. We absolutely loved it- the greens were cooked perfectly and we felt it had a very light tasting flavor as opposed to some lard/bacon heavy methods of cooking greens like that. It doesn't taste overly vegetable-y either... I think little kids would even like it. And then a pleasant buzz from the heat of some peppers. The jerk chicken also had a pleasant heat, and again a huge portion for what was called a "small"!! There was also a nice tangy sauce on the side. All in all... the people were very nice and the food was so delicious! I love finding a place where I can eat vegetables that are cooked in a flavorful and healthy way. On top of that, the food is affordable and you definitely get what you pay for... everything was huge! I would definitely recommend Taste of Reggae.

I mean, who needs a fancy restaurant when you can chow down on some delicious Jamaican cuisine while filling up your tank? I was on my way to Washington DC from Ottawa when I heard about this place and planned my whole route around it. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The owner and staff were super kind and accommodating when I asked for a mix of dishes so I could try a little bit of everything without getting stuffed. I ended up getting the oxtail with rice and peas, plantain, cabbage, and a piece of jerk. And let me tell you, every bite was like a party in my mouth. The rice had just a hint of coconut milk, the chicken was perfectly cooked and spiced, and the oxtail was so tender and juicy, I had to close my eyes to fully enjoy it. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a little adventure and a whole lot of flavor. The chef at Got Jerk! Island Grill knows what they're doing, and they're doing it inside a gas station - I mean, who knew? So the next time you need to fill up your tank and your belly, make a stop at this little slice of heaven. Who needs Michelin stars when you've got a Sunoco gas station with some seriously good food?

Since changing my diet and becoming more of a fitness fanatic -- nothing like the Philly Fanatic, but close -- I've been more selective about what I eat. Still, Philadelphia holds a special place in my heart, and when I got off the road and I was craving a cheesesteak. I couldn't find a good cheesesteak spot in the Harrisburg area. I remembered the place off 13th Street, but they no longer sell cheesesteaks and the restaurant has changed. So I switched gears and decided to get some fish instead. It was only 9:30 PM, and At Hookers Seafood & Fish -- an amazing place based off the consistency but it had already closed at 8 PM. Back on the hunt for food, I stumbled across Got Jerk Island Grill and Juice Bar in Midtown Harrisburg. The moment I walked in, it felt like I was teleported straight into the heart of Jamaica. Caribbean vibes everywhere -- lounge chair up front, Bob Marley on the walls, and a laid‑back atmosphere that made me feel like I should've had a coconut water in my hand. I talked to the chef and told him to give me his best dish. He served me curry chicken, rice and beans, sweet plantains, and cabbage. I have to say -- it was the best curry chicken I've ever had. The chicken was tender, cut perfectly, and shredded apart in my mouth. It fell right off the bone, and the curry had just the right amount of spice so you could still enjoy the full flavor of the meal. That's when I knew the chef knew exactly what he was doing and chose the right cut of meat.
