After deciding I don't drink nearly enough coffee, I decided to go out and purchase a coffee…read moremachine and grinder. All I needed now was some decent coffee beans to grind in it. I chose Simply Coffee because they looked to have a big range (based on their website). Walking in, the strong aroma of coffee hit me right away. The walls were lined with grinder after grinder full of single origin coffee beans and blends. I was very overwhelmed. Right away, a staff member came to my rescue. He asked me about 10 questions to determine which brew would suit me best. On his advice, I chose Simply blend 2. It smelt lovely. After trying it in my machine, I am really happy with the choice I made. I'm looking forward to trying some of the many other beans at Simply Coffee.

Simply. Coffee. Well…read morethey do some other things here too, but the coffee, particularly roasting and grinding etc, is the main focus. Roasted on site, there are about 20 coffee blends and single origins to choose from. The staff are very knowledgeable, helping you decipher which would suit you and your tastes best. The shop has a couple of seats, lots of coffee accessories (I could look for hours) and cool equipment on show. The ladies who work there are very friendly and sociable, chatting away with each other and regular customers while frothing the milk. It's not really a cafe to hang out in, this bit of Rundle Street is a bit suburban and busy, but takeaways are great and easy to get.

They have fancy home machines & grinders, jugs, tampers etc etc. They have a large selection of beans that are roasted on site, single origins as well as special blends. They also do barista training and machine hire. I spoke to the owner Basil, and was interested to know the he has been roasting for over 20 years and was one of the first roasters in SA. Him and his staff know their coffee. They use Bonsoy and I've seen them use various cow's milk. I think they use Paul's now. Parking behind the building can be accessed from South Rd or the side street. I've even parked in the neighbouring businesses parking spots... I'm sure they don't really like people doing that though.. Overall, great ethical coffee & nice service.

Service was OK, what ruined it was what seemed like the owner and his companions were behind the counter talking loudly. I know good coffee takes time, but I was waiting roughly 8-10 mins for mine. Because I usually get it on the way to work, I want to be in-and-out as quickly as possible; which means most mornings I will not stop to purchase one because I fear it will take too long. Parking is also a tad tricky. Lastly, the minimum eftpos is $10 which mean I need to buy 2 coffees plus something small if I want to use my card. If I have no cash, it will prevent me from buying a coffee that morning. Overall though, this is a coffee place and they do damn good coffee!

The cafe channels a hipster vibe with mismatched furniture and an eclectic use of items as display cases, but the owners have really maximised the space here whilst allowing the patrons to have enough breathing room. Staff are friendly in store and always up for a chat and happy to give you their recommendations on food or tea blend options. The Menu has a good range of breakfast and light lunch options and vegetarians will find themselves relatively well looked after. I'm a big fan of their pancakes (which are really pikelets) as they are very generous on the portion sizes as well as topping options. The coffee here is a wee bit bitter for my own liking but their lattes are crazy creamy. The Litttle Leaf also mixes their own tea blends you can buy in store, whilst I'm not a tea drinker myself, friends have assured me it is top notch. The Leaf 'n' Bean also puts on regular events with live music, exhibitions and dessert nights on their cards. Worth the trip up the hill, check out their Facebook page to see what is happening instore.

Homemade cakes, muffins and slices (a large range of those being gluten free) taste like nanna has baked them herself. We tried the "Lemon Situation," GF Orange and Almond Cake and GF Apple and Rhubarb Crumble muffin thing and were all impressed and received our sweet quota for the week. The Iced Coffees were very creamy and rich with vanilla ice cream - made with real coffee but perhaps a tad too sweet for me. The atmosphere of this cafe is comfortable with a range of seating options from couches to large share tables and cushioned seats in the corner. They also have a lovely courtyard for sitting in during the day. The staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and attentive and seem to really love where they work. I didn't manage to try their breakfast or simple lunch options of soup, sandwiches and quiche etc on the menu but will definitely be back.
