We swung by on a Monday, just before 3 p.m., and the place was completely empty... except for an elderly gentleman dozing off in a corner booth. Turns out, he was our server! Super sweet guy, definitely added to the charm. To be fair, not many folks are chasing Korean BBQ in the middle of a Monday afternoon. Some time after I started coming here, prices for the spicy marinated crab increased by over 20% in the span of a few months. I used to come nearly weekly, but it's been several months now since I've been back. This is my favorite raw crab place for its value and quality and I've tried quite a few. First, parking is easy with the parking lot. I saw a couple spots reserved for Bab n Banchan in front too so that is convenient. It has a mom and pop feel while also being clean and nice looking. The service is very friendly. But to be honest, 8-10 mins would've sufficed, since they keep the fire on throughout your meal. Spicy marinated crab - delicious with a good kick. It's a really good price for 6 pieces as well! (3 whole crabs!) The crab was super fresh and meaty. It did not have a fishy taste to it at all. Soy marinated crab - just as good; maybe better than the spicy marinated crab. It is all preference! At the end I chose the basic food like bulgogi and spicy cold noodles. The bulgogi was okay. I think it is the same as other place. It doesn't have a wow factor. 4/5 Spicy cold noodles were alright. I think I could make it at home too. There was no wow factor 3/5. The service was outstanding though. Maybe they specialize in the duck mostly and thats their specialty. I think many restaurants have something they are best of, but those random entrees arent. The price for the meat seems too expensive for me so I will not visit for the duck. read more

Went there on a whim last weekend, and I think we might've ordered the wrong item, but we were pretty disappointed with our duck. We didn't get the hinoki style, but just the grill version with fried rice at the end. It was 150 and it was for 2-3 people, but I thought the portion was a little on the smaller side. For 150, I thought there would be at least some stew or steamed rice, but literally there was just some duck and a little bit of sliced potatoes, chives and onions. The duck wasn't anything special, you can buy it at the supermarket and pan fry it at home for a lot less. I then had hopes for the fried rice, but even the fried rice wasn't too flavorful. They kept telling us to wait to get the fried rice and we were confused since the whole point is to cook it in the duck fat to make it extra delicious. Instead, they cooked the onions in the oil, set the onions aside, and then cooked the rice when there was hardly any oil left. They added radish kimchi, but the flavor was off, pretty bland. Great higher end Korean food establishment. I could tell either the manager or owner really took pride in the food. My best friend is Korean and I am Caucasian so he did talk to her and was concerned I wouldn't like some things but she assured him I love everything in Korean and it did not disappoint! We were going to order à la carte but he suggested the assorted beef plate for two which came with prime rib, brisket and sirloin and it was delicious. He also cooked for us which was nice. I really enjoyed the soybean paste soup, the egg soufflé and all the meats were delicious. Come here for the raw marinated soy crab! It is absolutely delicious. I prefer soy over the spicy marinated because you can eat the crab head butter. Pro tip learned from the owner - put some rice into the crab head and a few drops of sesame oil. Flames. They also include a raw marinated shrimp which had roe and delicious as well. Along with their galbi tang, we had our main dish which was the smoked duck to tie the meal together but overall from the starter to the 'dessert' which were the crabs hahaha - we were all stuffed and satisfied with our meal. I really like their soy sauce marinated crabs (female crabs with eggs), and just can't seem to venture away from that (even though it's one of the more expensive dishes and my wallet cries a bit when I come here). This dish comes with rice and many small side dishes, and the owner is lovely and would often add a couple freebie items on top of that. Of course, I like some dishes more than others, but haven't had anything that was bad or really off-putting. They also give free teas! I typically come here in the evening, and it is never crowded. It was not that crowded, so we got seated right away at 6pm at a grill table. It was a bit of a tight squeeze with 6, especially with all of the food we ordered (over-ordered). I would say over the food was really good, the service was good (some hiccups with having new staff but they were really nice and accommodating), and we had a great time trying some dishes we don't normally see in the Torrance area. However, it can get a little pricey, especially if you over-order like we do. Food: - Hinoki Steam Beef Brisket & Smoked Duck (2-3 Servings) $159 - The beef brisket and smoked duck were really delicious and tender! I really enjoyed the duck. It was very unique and I have never seen it at a Korean restaurant. We got two big stacked steam boxes with the duck and brisket and they just cooked right on our grill in the middle of the table. They serve the duck with some white napa kimchi and fancy nori but it also cooks on top of chives with sticky rice in the middle. I would say the portion was very large, more like 4 people worth of food if that's all you order. - Braised Beef Short Ribs (Normal/Spicy) with cheese $60 + $10 - The flavor of the galbijjim was really good and the meat was tender. I would say the cheese upcharge seems a little steep for the amount and the portion of meat seems a little smaller than other restaurants in Ktown, but the quality was good. - Spicy Seasoned Raw Marinated Crab (8 Pieces) $33 - We wanted to try the raw marinated crab, but the soy-marinated ones can get a little pricey. So we opted for this alternative. It was really spicy!!! Be careful and make sure you can handle spicy before you order this one. It was good, but I think for us the soy-marinated would've been better suited. - Soy Sauce Raw Marinated Shrimp (5 Units) $20 - The staff gave us this dish on the house to try. It was really delicious! I have never tried soy-marinated shrimp, but really enjoyed the flavor. The texture is a little slimy/chewy like raw spot prawn sushi/sashimi, but I am used to that. - Seafood Pancake $23 - We also got this dish on the house from the owner! Probably because we ordered a little too much haha. The seafood pancake was one of the best I have had! It was so crispy and packed with seafood. The sauce with it was also excellent too. Overall, had a really great experience at Bab N Banchan! The food was different the the usual korean spots in the area and everything we ate was delicious! I would highly recommend trying it. Personally speaking, the rice was a bit soggy but that does depend on day to day for everyone so I understand. Service is good, not spectacularly overbearing but takes care of you fast. Extra rice, asap, more alcohol, asap. I did have to ask for a water container cause their water cup is a bit small, and I drink a ton of water. Ambiance is good. Very clean, looks like it was a bbq store before so they do have those ceiling suction things but I haven't seen anyone use it, cause their main thing is the steamed duck/brisket.
