I have been a fan of the Del Pietro family for many years, including Sugo's and Babbo's...until today! We ordered takeout for the first time, total rip-off. Prices raised 60-70%, food was made as cheaply as possible. Both dishes were cold, even though we live 10 minutes away. I had lasagna-made with broken pieces of pasta, not one bigger than a quarter. I'm sure they bought the broken piece boxes to save money which was not passed on to consumers. The same thing with the spaghetti, not one piece longer than 2 inches. The lasagna was filled with large chunks of tomato, almost no cheese or meat. The spaghetti looked like it was scrapped off a complaining guests plate and given to us. Nothing was fresh, hot or reasonably priced. I won't miss being unappreciated or being price gouged. Spaghetti- $.1.00 2 meatballs - $3.00 (med) Sauce - $1.00 I've already adjusted prices for inflation. $5.00 10 minutes for labor, 5 minutes to Package, 5 minutes to pay- let's say a half hour Less than $10.00 for one order with 70% profit No thanks. read more

Portions are great! Ordered spaghetti and meatballs and received two large meatballs bigger than my hand! Everything was delicious, i just wished there was a bit more sauce. It was also only $13! I had to save the other meatball because they're so big! Ordered the thin crust pizza and I'm definitely a fan! Underwhelming food but quick and easy. It did take a while for us to get water and our server but once we did the food came quickly. They did bring us two things of bread since we finished the first one before we had eve ordered. The olives and cheese plate we were slightly confused what one is supposed to do with crumbled blue cheese. The pasta was fine but again nothing crazy fab. I loved your food it was outstanding, however I was miserable and even wearing my coat the whole time I was freezing. Looking around several other patrons had their coats on too. I noticed your thermostat was set at 57, that's a bit low for February and in a restaurant that has stone floors with no carpet. Too bad it's like that because your food is amazing. read more

I had lunch here the other day for a birthday party. Most people in my party were very delighted with our experience! I have a few complaints... - Not a wide selection on the children's menu - No baby changing station in the restroom - No really healthy salads on the menu - No birthday cake options / no candles. - Server did not once offer a refill on my coffee I chose the lunch special of half a pizza plus a small salad. The pizza literally is a half of a larger one. By the time mine arrived, I could tell it was sitting in the warmer for a while, as someone else probably already ate the first half. The pizza was dry and brown, and the pizza was thinner than a cracker. It was edible but definitely not wonderful. I've been here before and liked it better the prior time. I still give this place a 3-star because the rest of my party loved their meals. I will probably be back another time for a new visit. read more

Food was excellent. I had the Chicken spedini, friends each had lasagna. 2- people including me, had the del-pietro-salad. All were excellent. The Lasagna will feed two people, so you will have delicious leftovers. Prices are super reasonable for the quality & amount of food served. Excellent Service. They mostly have wine available for alcoholic beverages. We also tried the Terra-Missou for dessert, it was excellent. We love Babbo! read more

I came here for the first time last week for lunch. I was quickly seated but had a slight wait before my waitress came to the table. It wasn't long (about 4 minutes, so not bad at all), but a group who came in just after me (they held the door for me but i was seated first) were attended to before I was. Because it wasn't a long wait, I couldn't really be mad about it but I did notice. After that however, it was smooth sailing the rest of my time at the restaurant. I quickly received complimentary bread and a bottle of water for the table. The bread is good when not so fresh out of the oven, but it is PHENOMENAL when it is warm and fresh! Babbo's has a lunch special of a half salad and half pizza or half order of a pasta dish. I opted for half caesar salad and half lasagna. Both were really good and the portions were great! I had enough lasagna to take home. My total after tax was about $13 for an iced tea and the lunch special, so not too bad. Aside from my initial, short wait to give my drink order, I thought the service was great. The service and the taste of the food will definitely have me return. The atmosphere of the restaurant has dark wood and a rustic look while featuring a giant chalkboard on the wall depicting the menu. Babbo's is like a casual Italian restaurant that has good atmosphere, good portions, and good prices. It makes a great place for a small gathering of friends or family, or a nice, yet not so expensive, date. read more

I was in town for a business trip and just happened to stop in for a quick dinner. I'm sometimes skeptical of shopping center restaurants, but this place was terrific. The spaghetti was served al dente (just right) and the home made meatballs were delizioso! The service was excellent, the prices were fair and the atmosphere was comfortable. I can definitely see it as a cozy place to catch up with a few close friends. If you are in the mood for traditional Italian fare, give Babbo's a try! read more

First time here and wasn't aware that it is a sister to Sugo's in Frontenac. Knew immediately that I would order their Chicken Spiedini if it was available and the same recipe. It was and it was! Delicious! It's a very casual place... the "bar" is simply a table up front with bottles of wine and glasses, etc. Their Italian bread is wonderful but arrives on a simple plate - surprised one must request butter. I also got their house salad; doubtful I'd order it again. Their house dressing should be fabulous but it's bland, and the tomatoes weren't prepared well. I tried my husband's tiramisu, which was apparently the only dessert offered. I don't care for tiramisu generally but this was very good. Imho, they should have at least one other dessert on the menu. The Spiedini was $15 and I had at least half to take home. We will definitely be back - pretty good service and Italian is our favorite cuisine. read more

The food was fantastic and very reasonable priced! We tried the funghi and suros pizzas, the egg parmesan and the lasagna. Pretty good service, had the meatballs which were huge. Thought the sauce could have done with a bit more seasoning and the meat was a bit overpowered by fennel seeds, the bites that didn't have them were quite nice. Be a good idea to add a description and ingredients on each dish as the menu is quite small so they could do this. read more

Went on a quick visit to St. Louis to visit a new friend. Didn't do too much but on the way home we were sent to Babbo's for lunch. . . WOW the best recommendation ever! We pulled up to a strip mall, looking at the front of the restaurant, then thought whatever, we would go in. Thinking it was just a quick bite restaurant and getting the order at the counter and then sitting down to eat; we walked into an upscale place. The wine bottles were stacked neatly, the wood looked worn and the tables were plentiful. The food was AMAZING!! Did I say amazing, I meant Wicked Amazing! The salad my friend had was like it just came from the garden. . . the pasta was fresh and the sauce was pinkish red and plentiful with the meat sauce. I cannot begin to explain the meal without developing a taste for the place again and it is a 4+ hour drive. If you are ever near a Babbo's place. . . stop in. You won't be disappointed. read more

We've been back to Babbo's many time since our first visit over the summer. The service and food have been top notch each and every time. I love coming at lunch for the half salad and half pizza or pasta. At $12, it is just enough food for a filling lunch. If I'm wanting leftovers, I'll go ahead and order the dinner portion. We've tried many of the different entrees, but my old faithful are the spaghetti with meatballs--I LOVE the tomato cream sauce-- or lasagna. O.M.Goodness they're both amazing and ginormous. Came here for a birthday dinner with 12 other people and I'm glad I took the advice of other Yelpers and came EARLY! This place fills up around 6:30pm on a Friday night really quickly, and we got seated around 6pm. Take note that they do have a "incomplete parties are not seated", so we ended up waiting 30 minutes until the last 2 people in our group showed up. The wait for the food was not too bad--about 15-20 minutes. I ordered shrimp risotto ($14) to split with my husband, and my friends ordered the Babbo's pizza, tutto mare, lasagna, lobster risotto, and apple salad. The shrimp risotto arrived piping hot and was creamy but not overly rich as some risottos can be. Spinach and tomato were mixed into the risotto which made the the sauce a little more thin. My husband and I loved it, and the portion was big enough to fill us both. I'm relieved they didn't give us any hassle or extra pricing for splitting the dish! I also tried a slice of the Babbo's pizza (tomato sauce, sausage, caramelized onions, balsamic glaze) and it was thin-crusted, not too salty, and so very yummy with the tangy balsamic. Did I mention that the bread and olive oil is AMAZING? I think I ate like 5 pieces before my risotto arrived. The bread was soft inside, crispy outside, just the way I like it. The con: it's always difficult going out in groups to a restaurant, although some places will gladly split the check for credit cards. We ended up having to use cash to pay one person back who paid with one credit card because they have a policy about not splitting the bill too much. So come prepared with cash if you're planning on coming in a big group! This place is great for a romantic Italian dinner and I'm glad it's more affordable than some of the restaurants on the Hill! read more

We went for lunch today. I was very excited for the Funghi pizza. I love mushrooms. Service was average drinks were kept filled which was a huge plus. We ordered the Funghi Pizza and Chicken Alfredo. Both were very bland they seem to think garlic helps everything. Chicken was chewy and low quality chicken at that. I sent back the pizza. Weird vibe on a Sunday night. They were a little over an hour from closing and I usually try to avoid this but closing time was 8pm , which seemed very early. I usually love their Caesar salad but it's lacking flavor lately. The bread crumbs muddy the flavor. Husband got cream pasta with chicken and mushrooms. It took an extraordinary long time to come out from the kitchen. When it did the entire dish was pale white. He said the chicken was tough like it had been nuked. If it hadn't been so late we would've sent it back. My toasted ravioli was excellent. Served with a sweet chunky marinara. However it was too chunky and not easy to dip. Fast casual spaghetti restaurant. Wants to be a little higher end but the dishes, and quality of the ingredients, were not there. I got the Bolognese. The dish arrived piping hot (good) but with way too much sauce that seemed a little watered down, as if the noodles were not completely drained before being plated. My husband got the House Made Lasagna which he said was average. Our friends got the Spaghetti with Meatballs. They enjoyed the meatballs but were not amazed. The wait staff was friendly but not as attentive as we would have liked. For example, some used dishes, which we had set to the side, remained on the table while others were removed. Our friend asked for red pepper flakes but they were never received. I had to flag down our server for a refill on iced tea. Little things like that make the difference between a memorable experience at a place like this and an experience that is forgotten. Probably will not return. read more

Shame on management (I should say "lack of management). The food ordered (4 salads, 1 brushetta, 1 bolognese, 1 margherita pizza) was good, but not great. We also ordered 1 beer and 2 glasses of wine. I do not think it was worth $100. Our server did a very good job considering he was totally overworked so we bumped up his tip.
