That alone is a great experience. We ordered our first plate, the Sicilian typical starter and wow, it did not disappoint. 10 small dishes each one better than the last. Our next plate was the steak for two. Mind you we are from Kansas City (USA) and we know about steak and the taste and quality and this was by far the best steak we have had as of yet! This steak was surrounded by smoked vegetables that were delicious! Tiramisu for our dessert was fresh and amazing as well. Both house red and house white were also wonderful. Our dinner was wonderful but the best part of the evening was the chef who served us our entree and spent a lot of time with us Americans. Followed with grilled calamari and a seafood pasta. Simply divine! The kids had margherita, and my brother a pizza with bresaola and arugula that was also memorable. We sat outside, right on the town square, in view of the sea and the "marina dei ciclopi." We spent 99 euros for eight people (4 adults + 4 kids). My sister-in-law (fluent in Italian) asked our waiter if the calamari was fresh. He said of course and brought us up to the first floor where we could inspect all the seafood ourselves. I had the pistacchio granita with brioche. Compared to the granita I've had before, it was both…read morebetter and worse... I know that's a strange way to describe something, but let me explain. The first few bites were very good. The granita tasted a lot more homemade than the others I've had--rich, creamy, very very nutty (vs artificial flavoring)... and the brioche was fantastic--soft, slightly sweet, perfect. The bad: after the first few bites, the granita started to taste like nothing. I think the strong flavor dulled my tongue. I don't really know why, but let's just say it may be wise to share one granita with someone since you may not taste the second half. You don't need the whole thing for yourself, at least if your goal is flavor. Ironically, the other granita I've had elsewhere kept it's flavor--sweeter and more like a milky sorbet--but was less extraordinary. Bottom line: Bring a friend or lover and share!
