I really like this lake! I come here often to walk, enjoy the view and take my kids to play at the park area. The view is really nice in the evenings on a sunny day. It's nice to watch the sun glistening against the water. This 3.1-mile trail is an easy route, it takes an average of 55 min for me to walk. This is a popular trail for birding, road biking, and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. We even come just to sit in our car and eat and gaze at the water sometimes. Theres always some one there with a cart with snacks, drinks, fruit or ice cream treats for the kids. It can get a little noisy since it's not far from Dallas Airport, but sometimes the planes flying by low is not a bad sight. I do recommend this lake for family time or even a date . read more

I used to come to this lake when I was a kid and now as an adult . Some improvements I will state right off the top, are cleanliness of the park and bugs. There is lots of trash scattered around the the lake and parking areas. I see some homeless as well that have made the lake home ,so that may be contributing to the trash . Gnats will be something that you see frequently . I'm not sure how often that it gets sprayed but the oak may also be a contributor. Around the lake is a total of 3 miles and it's some nice views in certain areas. It's directly behind the Dallas love field airport so you see multiple airplanes landing and leaving. It can get loud and noisy due to this but very exciting to see. You will occasionally see some ducks and rabbits along the path. Pretty cool place to enjoy a nice walk some views . read more

Awesome place I've done 5K's there a lot the view around the lake is very refreshing. A nice choice for a walk or run.

Had a nice peaceful day on the lake with friends. The lake view is a nice backdrop for an outing during covid times and people did a decent enough time of social distancing. The one drawback unless you love this, is that the planes are SO loud right next to you if you are on the side of the park with the boat dock. It didn't take away from our fun though as we are all avgeeks. read more

Bachman Lake Park - Southwest Landing on a gloomy day! - Parks Near Me - Dallas, Texas

Back in the day this was one of the safest parks in town because the cops would regularly work out here. It's gone so far downhill that even the cops don't feel safe. Trash everywhere, cars blasting loud, crude, rap music. Not really a good family environment. Very sad. read more

Have you ever want to live out the scene from Wayne's World where they're sitting on the hood of their car and airplanes come screeching overhead blowing your hair and making a deafening roar? This is the place to do it. This is not a quiet and contemplative park. This place gets buzzed by airliners every few minutes. It's right next to Dallas Love Field, so the planes come right over this park on their approach. They almost split your hair as they come roaring in. All conversations come to a halt and any music that is playing when a Southwest Airlines plane flies overhead. There are signs that prohibit any bird feeding. They really, really don't want birds here in this park. A bird strike can be a bad thing on an airliner, but birds hang out here nonetheless. Please don't feed the birds. Late at night, bad elements come out and cause trouble in the parking lot here. They burn out their car tires, and take over with debauchery. They have a playground and a jogging/biking path that circumscribes the park. There's not much trees around here, so not much shade. There are a few picnic tables and barbecue grills available. There are better parks for someone who's wanting to get some peace and quiet. read more

I explain why I gave the park '4-Stars' instead of 5 near the end of my review. Bachman Lake Park is actually a very nice park to come to and relax, bike or take a stroll. These pics I posted, due to the early morning hour, really don't do it justice. The park is packed most days. They have vendors serving food and ice cream on push carts and there are grills and even a children's play station. They have boaters rowing and it appears some people fishing as well. Many people sit in their cars and talk or listen to the radio. AIRPLANES- The planes are constant and they fly low. I actually consider this is a plus. As the planes are landing (and taking off) they fly low right over the cars and the lake. It's very interesting. LACK OF DIVERSITY I gave the park four stars instead of five stars because there is almost no diversity in the folks who visit. I've visited Bachman Park now on three different occasions and it's overwhelming Hispanic. About 99.999% that's all I see. I'm black and I've seen one other black person out there and no whites or Asians. Ever. I take it that some people actually become uncomfortable with having their numbers represented on such a tiny level. I've never experienced any ill treatment but I do sit in my car and listen to the radio. I haven't gotten out to walk the park yet. The neighborhood appears to be diverse but this park is 99.99% nothing but Hispanics and that's kind of weird. It's like a hidden gym only the Hispanics know about. read more

OK park. A little short on amenities, and I did not see a bathroom nor a sink (and thus I hoped, running water). Only portable (chemical) toilets, and they were DISGUSTING. So happy I pee standing up! Rinsed my hands in the drinking fountain. I was on the north side, in the park proper, at the open-air shelter (with a few picnic tables). Was here for a 5K run. Good place for a run, or a walk, or a picnic, just short on amenities... However, there are plenty of commercial options available on Northwest Highway. It was also fun watching the planes on approach for a landing. Rowing club, on the south west side, was also a happening place. Bottom line: For the location, not too bad. read more

Beautiful park to walk in and watch the planes fly right above you to land in Dallas Love Field airport! They are doing some reconstruction right now on the other half of the lake so no paved walk way on that side. I am always amazed at planes, so I was so excited the 1st time I went. Great place to take pics and just people/plane watch. So far I've been there twice, once with my boyfriend other time alone and I felt safe both times. read more

Bachman lake is pretty and probably doesn't get a enough credit as a park. It is good for an early morning workout. There is a lot of noise from the airplanes going in and out of Love Field which is both annoying and kind of cool. The planes come in right over the park which is loud but also fun to watch or at least I think so. The area is a ton nicer than it was only a few years ago, but I would still go with friends and not at night. read more

This is a pretty nice park. There's ample parking off to the right side of the entrance. The little trail bends around the lake mostly and is quite flat, making it a great place for a walk with the dog or a light jog. It could use a park keeper (or more helpful humans) to keep trash at a minimum, but there is a high volume of traffic (including landing planes). I have a tiny dog so I haven't ever been able to walk the whole thing, but they are making improvements regularly! That's a good sign! Pretty windy with the landing planes, so bring a light jacket! read more

I didn't even know Bachman Lake existed for the first 3 years I lived in Dallas. Granted, its not near enough to my home to justify frequent visits anyway, but I still can't believe I was unaware of it completely. My first introduction to this park happened last summer with a group of running buddies. Every summer, starting in May, Thruston Racing puts on the Summer Jogging Series which is about 13 weeks or so of 5K runs/walks located at the park. The trail around the lake is about 5K (3.1 miles) around, so it is perfect for weekly races. Every Wednesday night, rain or shine, groups of local runners meet at the covered picnic area for a friendly footrace. While the majority of the way is smooth concrete, the trail gets a little rough in areas, so mind your step! Still, if you're looking for a little outdoor exercise, I recommend giving this place a try. The picnic area is great and we often make ourselves at home on the lawn just to the side of the covered portion. The lake is calm and you often see people rowing across its smooth surface. It appears that a lot of families frequent the area, because there are always kids running around playing. I really wouldn't be here after dark, personally, but the park provides a decent view, good walking / running path, and has a nice play area for the kiddos. The noise from Dallas Love Field can be distracting, but its still not a bad place to spend some time overall. read more

I will say the park is in a tad bit of an older, somewhat shady area. I'd watch your surroundings and make sure you have no valuables visible in the car. I do think it's a nice park though, and well kept. Bring friends or family to enjoy time around the lake. You can bike, run or go for a leisurely walk. There are a few races held out here from time to time. There are a few good eateries in the area as well. Plus close to Dallas Love Field so you can watch the planes fly by. read more

I ran the Cupid's Chase here over the weekend it was a fabulous experience. They have a clear paved trail for walking/wogging/jogging/running and a play area for the kids. There was also a nice covered seating area if you are interested in coming out for a picnic. It's right next to Lovefield, so if you are someone who likes to watch planes land this would be a great spot to do it. I had to knock a star off because there were some uneven portions of the paved trail and I almost crash landed into another runner! read more

The park is decent place to walk, jog, run or even to ride your bike. The peak hours can get very packed. The weekends are also very packed especially if you park in the lots that face northwest highway. The area becomes very suspect after dark so I always try and keep my rides to the daytime. I wish they would fix a few spots around the lake where it runs from concrete to just dirt that people have formed a trail in. The park usually has a large amount of families either walking around or highly concentrated around the playground area so be careful if your riding your bike. read more

Visited on a Wednesday evening around 5:30pm. There were tons of people. A lot were playing their music super loud. The playground was packed way beyond capacity. A lot of sketchy looking people. I haven't been here in over ten years and don't plan to return any time soon. Down right scary to me. Such a tiny tiny lake in this city, but the people enjoy it none the less. I'd say it's pretty popular during the day but I doubt the same holds true at night. I ride a road bike and pass the south side of the lake as I take laps around love field. To bad it's not better maintained being so close to some up and coming sections of Dallas. It's super close to Bluff View, yet terribly impoverished! Maybe as the remaining sections of area around love field move up... so will the lake? Ok for walking, jogging, running but the trail isn't big enough for bikes with the rest of the pedestrian traffic... I stick to the road. read more

Really nice park to take your kids: lots of ducks, geese and assorted birds to watch, several playgrounds, and it seemed like fun for all around. Lots of seating near the lake to just relax, maybe read a book or anything... You'll also find joggers there, as there is a decent 5k track around the lake. read more

Neat little park with walking trails and a playground included! There was plenty of parking, and though there were not bathrooms open, the port-o-potty was quite possibly the cleanest one I have ever been in. Some people might not like the air traffic noise, but I thought that it was really cool to be able to watch the planes landing at the airport just next to the park. You get to see them come in low for landing, which is a neat perspective. This would also be a really nice place for a run if I were planning on doing so that day! read more

I really like the lake and the trail that goes around it. I went for a run a few weekends ago, but was disappointed with all of the broken glass in the parking lot and trash around the trail. Random people hanging out at the park smoking; which is disgusting when you're trying to run and be healthy. I would never go here by myself, not even during the day. Lot's of trees and shade. I loved it here. I always wanted to go on a date and watch airplanes and I was taken here. I instantly fell in love. There is plentiful parking and a trail surrounding the lake. If you have children they can enjoy themselves at the playground. I wish there were more benches by the lake so if you find one, go scoop it up. We have been back a couple of times to do outdoor games and even though you'll see and hear the planes, it is extremely relaxing. read more
