I didn't walk into Bacio di Latte with high hopes. Sure, it looked nice enough from the outside but never did I expect I was going to discover really great gelato here, much less the best gelato I'd sampled outside of Rome. My go to gelato order always consists of yogurt plus a fruit flavor or a chocolate flavor. But many gelato shops don't even produce yogurt so the moment I spotted it here I was excited. I chose yogurt and raspberry but only after sampling a bunch of other flavors - I mean, they have five different types of chocolate alone! (Thankfully, the folks scooping the gelato are patient with non-Portuguese speakers who can't make up their minds!) We were slightly confused by the payment order on our first visit, so you know: Pay for your scoops first, then select your flavors (people who handle the money don't handle the gelato). I was hesitant to try it. After 5 weeks in SP, and only because there was no queue, i went in. It was good, not great, but better than good. Lots of choco flavors. Was hoping for more variety, but mostly your usual suspects of gelato flavors. Be warned, it is pricy! Seriously, a medium cup for $5.50 / reis 11! I was just in rome and a similar size at a really good gelateria was €2-3. Oh well, it is in Brazil after all. read more

For a scoop of some of the most supreme gelato I've had the honor of tasting, I must say, Bacio di Latte shot my most modest expectations out the window. This fine gelateria churns out some of the most magnificent flavors. Perfectly creamy, delicately assembled -this side for the hazelnut and that side for the dark chocolate-, and patiently delivered (I'm sorry my portuguese is lacking), I think the Italians need to take note of this boutique scoop spot. read more

A little slice of Italy. The gelato here is sooo good!! One of the locations I went to had a chocolate covered raspberry flavor. Oh em gee. I overheard some Americans complaining that this is not real gelato, more like melted gelato. Guys, you don't know what real gelato is! 95% of the "gelato" places in the states are just glorified ice cream and nothing like what you'll find in Italy. A good tip for identifying "real" gelato - if they serve it with a paddle, you're good to go. If they're using an ice cream scoop, run! read more
