The hostel website promises a 'laid back experience'. Sadly I did not get to experience this. I checked in to 3BE in the morning and patted the friendly dog. My room, though clean, was stuffy and crowded. There were no opening windows and with 12 people and bunk beds jammed up against each other, it looked like it was going to be an uncomfortable night.
When I returned to the hostel on my first evening, I discovered a print out of a colleague of mine on the front reception. It turns out my colleague had had politely emailed to enquire about the lacklustre breakfast (she had spent one night there already).
What ensued: the hostel owner had gone to the lengths of locating my colleague's picture on Google Images, printed it on A4 and written her name across it in black letters. He was waiting in the front reception for her. It was around 11pm at night when I arrived back.
When I suggested that his was abusive and unprofessional behaviour, he kicked me out of the hostel immediately, calling himself 'king of the jungle' and stating that he could do whatever he wanted. If I did not leave the premises, which of course I wanted to do because of the interaction, he would call the police. Lucky there was a safe and friendly hotel with availability down the road.
I join Yelp in order to convey this relevant experience - one of verbal abuse by the hostel owner.
