not gonna lie, I loved this place -- but then at a certain point, when I realized they didn't let people of color in... that's NOT ok. really rubbed me the wrong way... to see them consistently let people in that looked a certain way, and anyone of color was not let in and told they were "too drunk" or it was "too full"... this isn't even a good place. It's the backup to bottled blonde when you can't get into citizen or truth and alibi. Don't bother. Look... My boyfriend and I went to backyard with some friends. We stepped outside for a minute to get some air and tried to get back in, but the five bouncers surrounded my boyfriend and then started punching him for no reason. I believe they were targeting him due to his race. I tried to get involved to deescalate the situation, but they then hit me as well, in the stomach and leg, leaving bruises. I parked in what appeared to be a public lot directly across from backyard's front door and used the parking app but somehow got an $87 parking fine from "parking revenue recovery services." so this is NOT a public parking lot. I have tried to reach them to explain that I paid through an app using the signs on the lot. Have gotten zero response. So now I have to pay it or they will report it to the credit bureaus! I can't be the only one this is happening to. Oh what to say about Backyard.....a group of us decided to stop in and grab a quick bite before moving on to other Deep Ellum activities. None of us had ever been here before but have heard great things. Upon entering, the manager on duty i assume, told my friend to "take off that bandana" He didnt greet us or welcome us as you think a manager would. Once we got down to the seating area we saw about 3 other males/females who were also wearing bandanas in the same way my friend was. Only difference i could notice was that my friend was black and the others were white. We motioned for the manager to come over to our table, he turned and ran in the opposite direction and never came and said anything else to us. When we were leaving, the same manager or whoever he may be was standing at the door by the host stand. He did not speak or even make any eye contact with any of us. He looked down at the floor as every last one of us walked out. There was only 1 waitress taking care of the ENTIRE restaurant. This baffles me but sure whatever, she was friendly and very attentive for being ran all over the place. The menu is a basic one page menu, nothing too exciting but the food turned out excellent and arrived very quickly. The chicken nachos were full of flavor and the portion was enough for 2-3 people to eat depending on how hungry. The chicken tenders came out with a slice of watermelon which was different but hey everything was super tasty. They do service industry discounts as well. There was live music going on which we enjoyed and plenty of games for everyone to play. I can definitely see the appeal. Table service on a Saturday at lunchtime was slow. And once the place started to fill up, it only got worse. This place also belongs in Uptown. Service at the bar was no better. Only 2 bartenders for a HUGE bar area and terrible service. I even offered the male bartender an extra $50 tip if he would serve us our 3 beers before making 8 shots for the guys who walked up AFTER us and he didn't take me serious. So he lost $50. I'll come back here EARLY on a Saturday with my pups before it fills up with the $30,000 millionaires, but that's it. read more

Was informed that they do not allow jerseys, which is understandable however there was a couple who was let in and they were wearing Rangers jerseys. My friend was very intoxicated and I appreciate them caring to escort her out the bar. My issue is, the heckling that occurred from security as she was walking out. She wasn't falling on the ground on the way out, she was walking completely straight and normal and complying with their rules. As she walked out they heckled her all the way to the front door. DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!!! We've spent so much money here but this was extremely rude and we won't be coming back. I have always loved this place until they wouldn't allow me to walk past the doorway with a cup of empty water in my hand to make sure that my friend would get to her car safely. I feel like I need to reiterate. These people (the bouncers) would not allow me to cross the threshold of the building with an empty cup of water to make sure that my friend would make it to her car without anything happening to her. That in of itself is the most disgusting thing I've ever heard. To not let a friend walk out her friend in the middle of deep ellum with an *empty* water cup in her hand is egregiously outrageous. Had a company event here last week that was a blast!! Food was excellent for Buffett style...amazing brisket, Mac n cheese, onion rings, sliders, even a chocolate fountain. The games were super fun and the DJ was excellent! We had team competitions on corn hole and there were scattered games around the room for shuffleboard, pool, connect 4, Jenga and more! I am sure all bartenders and bouncers are great people!! However I have only had Heather Buscho and Caycee Huckshold bartend for us. I would like to say these two ladies have amazing professional service, interesting stories (if you are lucky and catch them early before crowds arrive, or late near closing). But the staff here are BEYOND Professional. They also have a manager Jerry Saena, who I had the opportunity to go to SMU with and get to know over the years, Jerry you rock. I went here to celebrate a friends birthday. The environment is really cool. Games you could play for as little as a quarter and you can rent games from the host stand for a dollar (cards, ping pong). The drinks were WAY overpriced. I got three Vegas bomb shots (in which I think she skimped me on the liquor but I digress) and it was $30! Wow was my response lol that was the only drink I got and it wasn't worth it. They are killing it off liquor sales. They stop serving food at a certain time so I didnt get to experience that. Maybe I'll update my review if I go back one day for food. I am still appalled that not three, not four, but FIVE bartenders/servers have snapped their poorly manicured fingers at me, literally and metaphorically. 15$ for a syrupy "Golden Retriever" margarita left me with a blood sugar imbalance. When I politely asked for a white claw to rectify the beverage atrocity, I was told white claws are expensive and was promptly handed a skunky Stella Artois. I know they have the means to maneuver a quality marg, as evidenced by their flashy bar display. I also know the price of a claw vs beer. One case of white claws costs as much as the margarita that the bartender dumped down the drain. To conclude, this joint has unwarranted BDE. Take your money and day drinking elsewhere. read more

Just loved our server Zoe, she was amazing! It was our first visit here and I will for sure be coming back! Tons of space and it's beautifully laid out! Super cool place to take your dogs too! There are so many games to play too! Dress up or keep it casual, whatever you like. Plenty of seats at the bar, tables, and lounges you can reserve! Lots of places to take cool pictures, as noted the cool slug-bug in the front is a nice place to start taking photos. Parking is 10 bucks (credit card machine) for that. And make sure to have your ID, as it's 21 and up! Saturday afternoon there was a DJ, not sure if there is a DJ there every Saturday, and at the same time, tons of flat screens to watch sports. This weekend they had turned on college football and it was a very nice crowd. The bloody mary bar is really cool too! Didn't make it for brunch but came here with a small group early evening to watch the NBA playoffs and hang out with the pup. This place is definitely dog-friendly but not as much as the day goes on. Probably best to bring the pups near brunch time. I'd also pass on catching games since the music is loud on the weekends and it's hard to find a seat near a TV playing your game. Overall, this seems like a great place for groups, especially on the patio where you can find a ton of games. Service was pretty slow but the food was decently good and there were a lot of drink options, though we couldn't order some of the drinks on the patio. read more

Decent happy hour too with $7 craft cocktails and discounts on domestic beer and well drinks. We were there on a Friday night around 6 and there was a dj going too. It's too bad that the vibe doesn't match customer service. I'm giving three stars because the place has some backwards ways of doing things. When we showed up it was pretty much empty but we were told we couldn't sit at a booth because they were reserved for bigger groups. Understood but there wasn't a single one of the 8 or so they had being used so unless a celebrity entourage was going to roll in we would have been fine. They could have offered for us to sit there and then move when needed. The worse part was buying a happy hour craft cocktail and getting up charged because I had one of their craft cocktails with rye whiskey instead of bourbon of the same label. Its has indoor fire pits and heat lamps you feel the outside but your in doors so love the concept ! they night we went was cold and all the fire pits were taking, we did eat in bar area by pool tabs and it was a lil less chilly. Great spot to grab drinks and watch the game with a group of friends. If I was 10 years younger (in my early 20s) this place would have gotten 5 stars. The drinks were cold, food was good, and the atmosphere was fun. Beware that on a Saturday or Sunday during football season you will want to get there early to grab a table. Most were reserved for large groups or VIP with bottle service. Also they keep the TVs a few notches too loud to have a conversation but it is fun none the less. read more

I went to backyard with 14 coworkers, opened a tab with the bar. Later I went to a table and the waitress said she can close my bar tab and open with her. She asked for my ID to make sure she closed the right one, the bar then lost my ID AND CREDIT CARD. To make matters worse, the manager came up blaming me and then called security to escort me out after I told him I was upset because I need my ID to get on a flight in 3 days to see my sister who just had brain surgery. I explained to him I don't care about a comped tab or anything other than my ID, and if he had nothing to offer than to blame me, he should walk away and try to find it. This is the worst place to have an event. They overcharge for mediocre food, weak drinks, and spotty service. AVOID. We booked a corporate event for 20-25 people. I had to send multiple emails and call to get responses from these people. They are not professional or quick to follow through. The catering was $545 alone and SO underwhelming. The sliders were mostly bun. They brought one plate of fries for $45?!? So at those prices it should be top notch service, right? Nope. Some people had to order extra food because it wasn't enough for a meal. First, this place is not air-conditioned. When I asked about it, they said they were "open-air but had fans and AC to cool down the space". LIES. It was unbearably hot, all our guests were sweating, and in less than an hour one of our guests got sick from the heat and spent the next hour throwing up in the air conditioned restroom. We had to get up to get more napkins for the table, the drinks were slow to come out and WEAK, and it's not like they were super busy either. The waitress was rude to our boss who had asked for a drink and never got it- she asked if he needed anything and he said he was still waiting on the drink he ordered previously. She told him she already brought it and walked off. As others complained to me, I told our Backyard coordinator and she told the waitress who then came to bitch at me!! They sent her home and gave us another server who was excellent. We also had strangers who would come sit at our tables. It was super awkward. I told the coordinator twice, and the third time I had to tell the random people myself. Mind you, the bar was NOT packed by any means (and I see why), so why these people thought to sit with us, idk. We also had strangers try to take our food! C'mon! The management tired to apologize but the party was already breaking up by then. They brought us some "free" buckets of cheap beer that weren't finished and left us with a tab equal to $75 per person. We would have been better to take the team to a nice restaurant.... Or anywhere else. So disappointing. read more

Tried to go here with a group of friends and one of our group wasn't allowed in because he didn't have belt-loops on his pants and that is considered "athletic wear". Then literally RIGHT after, they let another guy in with adidas joggers on. No belt-loops. But they're allowed in. But also...online it says no dress code. Yard house I love this place, whenever I'm in Dallas visiting I make sure to visit at-least once. The music is AWESOME, crowds diverse, usually no cover and enough games to keep you entertained. Carly was our server and she is AMAZING! I'm sure everyone else was super busy because this place is busy fun! But after standing around for about 20 minutes, Carly, was the only one who approached us and offered to serve us! The food was delicious and made up for the first 20 minutes.
