Get to South Street off 6A, and then drive, drive, drive to the end of South Street (it's bumpy and gravely and a fun ride) where we can park in a nestle of trees. From there it's a quick hop over the dunes via the path, and endless splashing and playing await. Check the tide times for Barnstable harbour, and head on down for low tide! There's even some rocks to play around on if you do hit high tide....

We were greeted by a lovely lady who took our names and allowed us on board. Once on, we found perfect seating in the front of the boat and were informed that beverages were being served below. How fortunate that they had a really nice selection of wine, spirits and cocktails at a very affordable price. As for the trip itself- it could not have been more perfect! The boat ride was comfortable and our tour announcer, I did not get his name, was so informative and told us a great history of the area! He was so good that when we got back to our friends' home that evening we even watched The Final Hours co-written by Cory Sherman a friend of our guide. What a great way to end a beautiful day! I lost my dad 7 years ago but as I was standing on the pier I could hear him yelling at me as if I were purposely catching puffer fish that he had to fight off the hook. Yes, I admit to getting teary eyed with nostalgia. It is a really cute beach with a nice jetty. The pier is great for high tide fishing and low tide viewing. The water is super clear with no snags or rocks to catch your line.

It sits at the opposite end from the free "first" beach and in between is what we always called the "swing" beach for obvious reason. This beach sits next to the Smugglers Beach motel which I think was changed to condos many years ago. The beach has a large boat ramp for launching boats and the ramp used to be free but now the town charges to launch. The beach itself also charges to park. Overall the largest beach and it sits at the mouth of Bass River and has a pier to fish from.

Captain Sam was very knowledgeable and showed us various landmarks throughout. The boat was amazing - everything looked brand new and there were various areas of the boat for us to hang out in. In particular I loved the fly bridge which had incredible views of the sunset and water. Captain Sam was awesome and played great tunes. Shortly after we entered the open waters of mid-bay, we started catching, and ended up with approx. 21 Stripers (we might have lost count), and 1 nice Bluefish that Blaine bled out immediately, and enabled us to cook it up berre blanc style and it was excellent.) About 15 stripers were legal sized, but we only kept our legal limit of course. (If we were in NY, we would be eating bass for the rest of the summer! Maybe that's why MA allows less keepers so that there are more available for others to catch!) Regardless, it was literally non-stop action and both Capt. Bob and his mate Blaine were awesome.
