There are lots of restaurants, amazing bakeries, and coffee shops to choose from and if you wait inside in the restaurant area, you must make a purchase. Unfortunately, the train schedule is quite different on Sunday and we ended up having to leave the bullet train and get on a smaller train at another platform, carrying luggage up and downstairs. Then we drove a while longer on the train and then had to change trains yet again. We are so grateful to the people who helped us finally get to our hotel!

The train station is easy to navigate through but there is still ongoing construction around the station that can be tricky. The station has a coffee shop, and a few other shops with light bites to purchase while you wait. There is also a bathroom but you will need to pay Euros (or a credit card I believe) to use it, which is pretty standard throughout Europe.

The ticketing was fairly frustrating, but we'd grown accustomed to that as the electronic ticketing system in Germany, despite there being an English option, is not at all easy to navigate unless you are familiar with it. By this time in our trip we knew what to expect and had built in some time to navigate it and had a vague idea of what we needed so it went fairly well, but with the same little computer hiccups we'd come to expect from the system. The overall train station was, in my opinion, a bit grimy, and well loved, but it had some little cafes that were open early which was a win, and some fairly clean restrooms, though you had to go all the way to the basement for them. Overall, not a lot to report here. It could be modernized, cleaned up a bit, and improved, but it gets the job done.

The station is pretty clean inside but outside is another story. There is trash and cigarette butts everywhere. They could install a few more trash cans and ash trays to encourage people to clean up after themselves. Overall it's an ok train station, relatively safe, and a few snack places available in case you're hungry. Could use some updating but it serves it's purpose.

One of Frankfurt's main train stations, this one is more of a "through" station than a terminus…read morelike the Hauptbahnhof but it still serves the U-Bahn and the S-Bahn. It is in the Sachsenhausen district that is south of the Main river. Easy pedestrian access and with plenty of road access, a block off the main Schweizer Straße that goes through all of Sachsenhausen. I found the station extremely easy to negotiate and exit, heading towards my restaurant for dinner.

From looking at the transport map it seems as if this station is actually the terminus as opposed to the main station because it seems that a lot of the trains pass through the Frankfurt Bahnhof, go in a loop under the city, and end up here. The thing that stuck in my mind was the the queue at the McDonalds was horrendous. In fact it was so bad that we decided to jump on the train and get some dinner back at the main railway station.

For me, this is the station that was closest to my hotel along Europa Allee - a short walk along a reasonably well lit roadway. Not much for services here at the station. I did not locate a free wifi hot spot while I waited for my train. There do not appear to be any snack or vending shops here though there are a couple of vending machines on the platform. There is also an automated ticket machine. It is reasonably well lit and the platforms can be seen from the Emser Brücke, so I felt somewhat secure. The station is served by S-Bahn lines S3, S4, S5 and S6. It is between Frankfurt West and Galluswarte stations. Unless you're headed to the Messe, do not exit to the south.
