Oh that magic word. I remember the first time I had a bagel - I really wondered where it had been all my life. I could actually eat nothing but bagels for the rest of my days, but then of course they would have to roll me out of the house one day... Their 'San Fransisco' bagel is really yum. It's got turkey, red onion and thousand island dressing. And even their straightforward fillings like bacon and cream cheese are tasty because they don't scrimp on the fillings, and you do get value for money - most bagels are around the £2.60 mark. We ordered in from this place once, and their platters are great too - lots of choice and sandwiches also. They also offer soup, but I have never tried it - why go past the Bagel option? Madness. It's really handy if you work in the town for a nice lunchtime treat. Oh Bagel Bagel, you give me so much joy *tear

Bagel:Bagel is a bagel bar and delivery service situated in the Belfast's always brilliant cathedral quarter. It offers a huge selection of fillings for their bagels and have bagels for every meal of the day. I was out with a few friends in the Duke of York (possibly Belfast's great pub) and we took a notion for something to eat. We didn't want to pay stacks and didn't want to be sitting around for a long time so Bagel:Bagel was the perfect place. I got the Hugo. Roast Beef in a bagel turned out to be fantastic and I was a happy camper. Especially given the £3 price tag, I could hardly complain. After filling our bellies on these thrifty delights we got back to the Duke, ready for more important debate (mostly about how nice our bagels were) over a pint or two.

It's a pain to have to give a crappy review to a place that's always been a favourite. Arthur's has…read morealways delivered a decent lunch at a good price. After years of going in that has changed for the first time. As with everything these days the prices have crept up, especially in terms of the lunch specials. OK, that's to be expected these days. But there a 'meal deal' in there now for £12 or so! Not long ago that was a basic restaurant price, the specials are now around the £5 mark and gone is the awesome £3. I could live with that, but I got the club sandwich. It was tiny and bland.... With a club you expect the double layers... not in this case... just the 2 rounds of bread, and they were very poorly filled at that. I'll definitely be back... I won't give up on a stalwart like this after 1 bad experience... but with the hike in prices there needs to be an understanding there be a hike... and certainly not a drop, in delivery!

As eluded to Arthur's is in a really handy location beside Montgomery Street Car park and only a short dander from Victoria Square.s iWith loads of neighboring offices I suspect Arthur's is rammed in the morning and at lunch time but luckily for me I visited around 2:30pm and there were only a few other customers. As soon as I walked in I was asked 'what I would like?' and to be honest I hadn't even worked that out in my head yet so I just blurted out Americanno! I like the prompt sty;e of the staff in here - no messing about - gimmie your order! The coffee was great - very strong which is just what I needed before a meeting. I even got myself a wee pecan slice as there was a lonely one left in a basket just staring at me at the counter. So I had to, you know yourself! Anyway, it's a big old thumbs up from me for Arthur's and who knows it might even get that extra star when I sit in!

I ordered a roast vegetable sandwich on brown bread to take away and eat al desco. It was delicious, healthy and substantial. Actually it was bursting too much to hold in one piece so don't attempt walking along the street eating it. A table is required and cutlery is desirable!

Alfred Street doesn't have the throngs of people streaming up and down it that many other establishments would have sought for their higher footfall. The food is great, tasty, good produce for ingredients and well sized portions. The staff are quick and efficient but above all noticeably more friendly and welcoming than most sandwich shops. The coffee is good too, a pleasant surprise for a place that is a sandwich shop that serves coffee as opposed to a coffee place that has food (like Clements). Nice shop, the only drawback is that as I mentioned it's a bit out of the way so its not handy to a cash machine and they don't take cards, so you need to make sure you have cash on you before poppin' in.
