The best bagels in the area. I really like the hommade lox spread. The tuna is terrific. Yes the service can be slow and their is a new young girl that is incompetent, it is because its popular. The owner is rude, but I have only interacted with him once or twice. I'm a regular, the woman who works a lot and takes orders is very friendly to us. The coffee is superior. Teens sometimes dominate the seats. During school break it tough to get a seat. On a nice day, I like sitting outdoors. I don't get the viscous reviews. read more

Review: 3.8 It's hard to find a bagel spot that has crisp, fluffy and tasty bagels. It's even harder to find one after you move!! I had probably tried a couple of other bagel places before Bagel Emporium and so far so good. There's always a line whenever I pay a visit. The bagel prices are reasonable for the fresh bagels they make. A couple of places that I've gone to offered a free bagel when you bought half a dozen, this place does not do that. Staple from childhood when they used to be located across the street by Sears. Always pleased with their egg sandwiches. One visit recently (at the new location next to Starbucks in the kings shopping center across the street from Sears) I ordered an everything bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese. As I bit into it I immediately tasted something fishy: lox cc (in support of my brother Dan W.'s post, it was fishy). Whoops. Must have misheard me. No big because they whipped me up a new one, the correct order. Honestly though, I believe SDT CC is hit or miss. Didn't love theirs. Still LOVE the SDT CC from Modern Bagel in the Radburn area of Fair Lawn. Try that place if you are ever in the area. Emporium's bagels are always generous, but sometimes hit or miss on freshness. Recently ordered eggs whites and American cheese on a wrap with ketchup and was pleased. Only complaint was that the wrap was flaky after being heated up and the last 1/4 of the second half was empty only containing residual ketchup. Sad. All in all, a frequent stop over on my way to my parents in Ridgewood. Plus, it's right next to Starbucks which is a nice treat to follow up with. read more

Stopped here before getting my car serviced, the line was out the door, but they were extremely fast. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese and I have to say it was a pretty solid sandwich. The cheese was not melted which is the only complaint that I have, but the bagel was fresh and soft. The bagel itself was not too greasy and the bacon was cooked to perfection. This place is popular. They have a following and an Instagram. Personally, after giving them 2 tries, I'm totally unimpressed. Tables were filthy both times. Even my 5 year old commented on how "yucky" the tables were. Bagels on a Sunday morning were scarce. The bins were nearly empty and unlabeled which is something I've never seen at any bagel shop. The help was totally unwelcoming. Bagel sandwiches were incredibly sloppy; showed a total lack of care. Bagel didn't even taste fresh. It was hard and crusty as if it were a toasted bagel, but it wasn't toasted. The competition down the road on Goffle (Sunrise) is far superior in friendliness, cleanliness, selection (and labeling of their items), taste and even the way they politely take down your entire order before preparing it and bagging it carefully, the right way. The bagels, even when toasted, come out with a nice softness about them. Now granted, some people like their bagels to be like slates of rock when they ask for it to be "toasted." Not I, Yelp crew...not I. There's a solid feel to the bagel, when toasted, especially being on the top and bottom of an egg white/American cheese/ketchup breakfast meal. I've seen a lot of bagel casualties occur: eggs sliding out, cheese dripping, ketchup landing on the pants, bagels being too hard/too soft to really ENJOY the meal. The eggs are cooked well, the cheese is put on at the right time (HUGE fact that can't be ignored), and it all works well together. NO issues or sloppiness. Bagel Emporium gets it right, and they do a solid job. Only complaint is that the lines can get a bit hectic, and they do take a little while to get your order out to you. I saw a bunch of people leaving due to the wait. If that's a deterrant, you may want to go elsewhere. read more

I popped in hoping to have a pork roll (well done) egg and cheese on a toasted egg bagel. No egg bagels...not sure if they sold out or just don't have them. Asked for an everything bagel instead. Food was prepared pretty fast. Unfortunately, I asked for my bagel toasted and I think it was grilled with butter or oil on the grill. Not a fan. Much of the "everything" on the everything bagel fell off. There were only 4 thin slices of pork roll and they weren't well done at all. I was disappointed with this place overall. During the period that they were closed to relocate across the street, there was something noticeably missing every time I'd come home from college, eagerly awaiting the chance to enjoy a decent bagel. Needless to say, once they reopened, I gathered my younger brothers and lined up. The line was nearly out the door, and for me to stick around regardless says something in itself. Growing up with Bagel Emporium less than a mile away, I've had the opportunity to try their modestly displayed selection of bagels. I will say, it would help if they placed a sign in front of each variety's basket indicating the type of bagel, as the plain and whole wheat often resemble each other in color. This is a minor issue, however, and does not have any bearing whatsoever on the quality of the store's product. Service is usually pretty efficient, but depending on the order, you may be standing there a while, watching the employees cook your breakfast in front of you. Don't let that be a discouraging factor if you're interested in a more complex option, because I can promise it's well worth the wait! I've always been impressed by the way in which Bagel Emporium can manage to make the simplest request - a bagel fresh out of the basket and into the bag - undeniably flavorful and delicious. At times I'm just in the mood for the bagel itself, no toppings or frills. Others might find this strange or otherwise bland and boring, and normally I'd agree, but in this case, you can consider the bagel complete as-is. As long as this store is still standing and I'm in the area, I'll continue to be a frequent customer. They can't follow Simple directions, the bagels taste soggy, chicken salad tasted sour (so obviously it went bad), and I've never seen such chaos and disorder from a business running of a POS system. Grabbed a couple bagels on our way into the city this morning and they were good. He got a sesame and I a plain. We got both with cream cheese and butter. I liked that they don't put a mountain of butter and cream cheese on the bagels but they charge more then other places for 1/2 the amount of spread on the bagels. Just went to this for the first time and it will be my last. Food wise the bagels are ok, (the little bit that I ate) pretty standard and the place seemed clean. However reason I will never go back is the uncleanliness of one of the workers. Prior to slicing the bagel, the woman who prepared it picked at her ear like she was digging for something. like it was nothing in front of everyone! Absolutely disgusting. Then after the cream cheese went on the bagels she proceeded to wipe her hands with an appeared to be dirty towel. Keep in my mind she did not put on gloves. Got tuna on a bagel from here for lunch and was thoroughly disappointed. Not only was it pretty pricey but the tuna was horrendous. It tasted extremely fishy and smelled weird. Went here this morning and ordered 6 everything bagels, after getting home and opening the bag I realized they were all plain bagels. Not an issue, I realize people make mistakes. I brought them back to the store and watched the employee dump them back in to the plain bagel basket. Now I'm not a sanitation nazi by any means, but I touched all those bagels while going through the bag at home and that employee has no idea where those bagels have been or who touched them after I left. I always get my bagels from here and I've never had an issue. My bagels taste great and they are baked daily, so they are fresh. I like mine toasted and it stays a bit soft in the middle.Service is always good and they are clean. We've been coming here for several years. Since they moved from the regular location to this new location, the service and quality have gone consistently down. Not once have we gotten a raisin bagel that was not overcooked. Most of the time the bagels are very dry. The help is surly, uncaring, and abrasive. Today they ripped us off for five dollars in change. We are no longer coming back to this location, there is a more expensive bagel shop several miles further away that is preferable. read more
