Background: My husband received a collection notice from Cloud Willis & Ellis back in March of 2020 concerning a hospital bill from six years ago. My husband established a monthly payment plan, and for every month since then he has been traveling to this firm on Montclair Road, going into their office, and making his monthly payment to their receptionist. Problem: On Thursday, December 3rd, 2020, My husband and I were driving to the Cloud Willis & Ellis Law Firm in order to pay off his debt in full. I called to make sure someone would be in the office to take his payment since we were leaving after 4:00 p.m. I asked the gentleman who answered the phone what time they closed, and he said, "What can I help you with?" I responded that we were on our way to make a payment. He said, "We're here, but we're not allowing people inside." I asked, since when? He said, "Since Covid." I said, well, my husband has been coming inside the office and making a payment for months. He said, "He shouldn't have, but if you'll tell me what time you'll be here I'll have someone meet you at the door." I then asked if this was Cloud Willis & Ellis. He said, "Yes, I'm Ellis." I asked, on Montclair Road? He said, "Yes." I then reiterated what I had said earlier about my husband being able to come into the office each month and make a payment. At that point, Mr. Ellis became condescending and outright unprofessional by saying, "Okay, let me try to explain this again." He then said each word very slowly, "You cannot come inside, but if you tell me what time you'll be here, I'll have someone meet you at the door and take your payment." So, I told him 20 minutes, and he hung up in my face. Once we arrived at the office, my husband went into the office as usual and paid off his debt. Neither receptionist was wearing a mask due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and no one met my husband at the front door as stated by Mr. Ellis. Problem: Every month the receptionist would try to charge my husband more money than he owed until he provided her with his receipt from the previous month. This attempt at billing abuse failed with my husband, but it made me wonder how many people the Cloud Willis & Ellis Law Firm has actually succeeded in cheating out of their money simply because they didn't keep their receipts or even know what their balance was.

Typical backstreet lawfirm. I'd say something else, but this is a family channel so we'll keep it…read moreclean. Back in February 2018 my wife received a medical debt collection notice for a debt that was years old and already settled. The debt was from 6 years ago and the letter made it SEEM that she still owed this debt and that if she did not pay, they'd come after her. She has a Chinese name, so I can only assume they purchased this old (and inaccurate) debt information for pennies on the dollar so they could send out a threatening letter to try and see if a supposed immigrant would simply be scared and pay up. Unlucky for them, she's not that kind and nor am I. Sent them an official reply, listing all appropriate statutes, rules and regs. Never heard back.
