So the Bay Walk is supposed to be this big thing, with tons of restaurants up and down the…read moreboardwalk, but in many ways, it is a bit overrated. Many of the restaurants are overpriced and the food just isn't that good. In one such restaurant, I ordered a chicken salad sandwich, when it came it was nothing more than mayo and bread.. the chicken had flown the coop. The Bay Walk really isn't that big so once you do the circuit, you're pretty much done. Now, what is interesting is the number of food stalls behind the restaurants on the road. This is where all the locals dine and hangout, and it is also where I suggest you should go as well. The food is better and much cheaper than that of the Bay Walk restaurants.

We were in Palawan Philippines from 02/04/18 - 02/07/18. We were suppose to be doing the…read moreunderground cave off the coast of Puerto Princesa Palawan which is suppose to be one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. Unfortunately the weather would not permit this to happen and the tour boats weren't allowed to take people out because of the wind and wave action occurring. The agency that we booked our 4 day excursion to Palawan through came up with an alternative option to go to Iwahig and watch the fireflies in lieu of the cave excursion (interesting, but a poor substitute). The area along the Iwahig River is known as an area where fireflies gather in large swarms and nest in the trees at night. We were told that the numbers vary due to a number of variables. The tour boats take you out on the river where the guide shines a flashlight into the trees causing the fireflies to light up. The unfortunate part is you are NOT allowed to use a flash on your camera. It was funny because I took a number of shots with my iPhone. The results were awesome (a black screen). Oh well They also served a very mediocre buffet as part of this excursion. My recommendation is skip the buffet and get dinner in town instead. Like I said it was a substitute for the cave trip and interesting, but not a substitute for the underground cave.

Mitra's Ranch is located on the beautiful island of Palawan in the Philippines. We rode a Filipino "tricycle" to get to the place. It was a short ride from the main town proper of Puerto Princesa. A few of the activities that folks do at the ranch are horseback riding, trampoline, and ziplining. We did none of those. Wifey and I spent most of our time there sitting at the viewing deck by the villa. We simply enjoyed the pretty views of the surrounding area. The place was very serene and peaceful. Saw some folks bringing food with them and finding some benches to sit at and enjoy a picnic. Mitra's Ranch is a place to check out and enjoy some serenity.

Now this is going to be a strange review so hang on for what maybe a strange review. First the…read moreisland itself is off the coast of palawan and is set up to cater to a few guests each in their own little beach hut. You can swim, play volleyball all that sort of beach stuff, I would say that this probably be a magnificent day out. Why probably? Well we went on christmas day and before you ask yes they were SUPPOSED to be open that day. My wife booked this and the transport to the island was too expensive so she got alternate transportation. Apparently we were supposed to check in with the office obviously not put in the instructions. So off we go to the island ( oh did I mention the typhoon?). Ocean was a little choppy due to a small typhoon ( size is determined by how bad it effects you). We arrived at the island and the folks that actually live there were like, excuse me but who are you and what are you doing here? The coast guard had put out a cease and desist order for small boats to be moving due to a high chance of sinking. ( scuse me??) But since we we were already there let's just make do. They bring you a list of fresh fish for lunch. Nothing can be fresher, like this was caught 1/2 an hour ago. These guys bent over backwards to help us and everything went great. I can only imagine what it would be like if they were ready and waiting. These people are fantastic oh and our trip back was interesting to say the least. I kept thinking remember you can swim, you can swim.

Gayle and I were here as part of an island-hopping day trip. There's good infrastructure here (bar, toilets, shower booths, shade, chairs, etc.) and we fould it was nice place to swim and hang out with our fellow travelers. Cowrie definitely had more going for it than the nearby Luli Island.
