We transited through here to get to Salzburg and see a few nearby castles while in town for 9 days. We found it a bit more confusing to navigate than the Central Station but were easily able to find snacks and foods for lunch and find our platforms.

Due to its proximity to our Munich hotel, Ostbahnhof was our "home base" when traveling. It's large…read moreand can be a bit confusing (as any subway/train/hub of travel can be to those who aren't used to it), but once you get the hang of the hallways, stairs and turns, it's easy to navigate. We took many a train to and from our second "home base", Marienplatz. The thing that I loved about starting and ending at Ostbhanhof was the fact that we could take practically any train - going in the correct direction, of course - if we wanted to stop at Marienplatz. That meant we rarely had to wait for a train, which was an added bonus, given we were there in the middle of winter, and there is no shelter from the cold, wind and rain on the platforms. Signage is plentiful, there are plenty of ticket machines scattered throughout the station, and one can buy anything from pastries and coffee to lotions and toothpaste without having to leave the relative warmth of the station itself. Our last train out of Ostbahnhof was the one to Salzburg, so we were able to connect locally as well as "internationally". It definitely made it easy for weary travelers, with just a bit of German language on their side.

There is a ton of shopping here with an Aldi and a local store, a bunch of bakeries and eateries as well as a pharmacy where we got our pre-flight COVID test for return to USA. Central to almost everything and can take you to the main train station in Munich and back to the airport for departure for a reasonable fee.

The location is great...you're five minutes from Marienplatz and it was so easy to get anywhere from here. Additionally, if you're staying at the Hilton (or the Holiday Inn) you can go straight from the train to the hotel without even going outside. Just make sure you exit toward the front of the train if you're coming from the airport. The station was pretty clean and they had chocolate covered peanuts in the vending machine on the platform for only one Euro. Believe me, if you've been drinking somewhere, those are a welcome snack on your way back to your hotel room. At one of the exits, near where you can pick up the tram, the escalator was not working so that knocks it down a star. But I thought this was a great base camp for my Munich adventures.

Very simple underground metro station, Lehel services the U4 and U5 lines between Odeonsplaz…read more(towards Westendstraße or Laimer Platz) and Max-Weber-Platz (toward Arabellapark or Neuperlach Süd). The station has two tunnels with side platforms that are joined at each end. Escalators from the platform level to the mezzanine level and then escalators and stairs to the surface. The west end exits lead to the west side of Sankt Anna Straße at Sankt Anna Platz; the east end exits lead to Tierschplatz, where the tram 18 stop is located. It's kind of cool how they have some sculptures embedded in the outside walls and some display cases in the connecting passages. This is because Lehel is located close to a number of Munich museums.
