I have good experiences at this masjid and feel welcome by the community. There are many beneficial activities and classes being offered weekly and the opportunity to grow in your practice of Islam. No Muslim or community is perfect but if we can train ourselves to focus on the good of the community and be patient with its shortcomings, maybe Allah will transform the shortcomings into good. They have a lot of different programs and events at this masjid. More events and lectures than I've seen at other masjids in the area. I am not familiar with the leadership or management of the masjid so I can't really comment on those factors, not yet at least. It's a good masjid to check out. With Ramadan coming up, it should be a lot of events happening here. I'll update after Ramadan with any thoughts on how that experience is.

I stop by here to pray whenever I'm in the immediate area, which isn't very often. Every time I've come, though, I've been received warmly and treated equally. While this is a clean and pretty mosque in which to pray, the community here is welcoming beyond what the surrounding NE DC is. They are a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster part of the city. The Sister Clara Muhammad school teaches children, and doesn't preach craziness to the young ones. Rather, the children in this community are raised to treat everyone with respect and good manners. I'm really happy with this. I would suggest that Masjid Muhammad's Board be even more involved than they are in interfaith programs and hold more open houses. This would take the community to the next level.

After discovering it was our first time in, the owner gleefully offered us a tour. His knowledge was outstanding, and he left no shelf unaddressed. I would guarantee that Al-Hikma has a book for any need one has of an Arabic book or any interest one has in the Arab world. There are books for learning Arabic (or for Arabs learning English), English books about Arab topics (pictured), Arabic books for every Arab country, beautiful religious books, specialized dictionaries, photo journal books, cook books, and much more. After more than an hour of our searching, the owner offered us tea and Arab sweets (probably not a guaranteed part of a visit, but we were lucky!). He distilled more knowledge to us before sending us on our way. We felt notably enriched for having stepped inside.

The reason why I didn't give it a five is because it doesn't have the most room but besides that everything I personally love. I would definetely recomend you to go there for Jummah prayer and prayer times. There Eid salah's are so nice. They rent out this place in rock creek park and it is so nice to pray outdoors with the beautiful weather and the nice environment. I love prayer all around Allah's creations and listening to birds while praying all around you is trees and green. I love so many uncountable things about First Hijrah! As I am very proud to be a daughter of someone who had worked in the board group for years. They have just now purchased a new mosque down in Adelphi, Maryland. Please donate to the Mosque because Allah says, " Whoever builds a masjid will have a house in Jannah. " Allah is obviously happy with people who help out with the masjid. They have Another branch in Virginia. So they have one mosque on Georgia Ave DC. Other one In Adelphi, Maryland. And the last one on Edsall Rd, Springfield, Virginia. So please help and support the First Hijah community.
