I've been a member of Urban Athlete for almost a year now. I love this gym and highly recommend it!…read moreI live in Mount Airy, and enjoy having a small local gym that I can jog to. The classes are more boot camp style than crossfit. Pamela, the owner, develops a daily workout that each of the Urban Athlete classes does the same that day. Each class includes a 10 minute warm up, 5 minutes of instruction, followed by 30-35 minutes of work. We use a lot of hand weights, kettle bells, and occasionally barbells. There are also plenty of body weight exercise like burpees, pushups, pull ups, and planks. The instructors are my favorite part. They show us how to do each exercise, cheer us on, and give pointers to help your form. Class sizes typically range from 5-12 people. The workouts are for most fitness levels and ages, but not all, as they are hard and meant to push you. The members feed off each other for motivation. If you have serious physical limitations, personal training sessions might be a better way to start.

They have the options for personal training, IsoPhit (which is intense and great), plus virtual participation in classes. Can't speak highly enough of this place. Definitely a hidden gem among all the other bigger outfits. Worth checking out if you're looking to improve conditioning and strength in a friendly environment.

I discovered Kristin Thompson after I had lunch with someone that I had not seen in about a year…read more His body was transformed from a pudgy guy with poor eating habits and no regular exercise. Until he met Kristin. Then he became a new person with a new physique. I immediately phoned Kristin and set up a meeting so she could assess me and my physical handicap do to a spinal cord injury. I have been working out with her ever since. about three years. She has created a program for me and my limited ability to stand and walk without a walker or canes. So I certainly have benefited from her plan for me. You will benefit too. Kristin motivates me to work hard while she is training me. I highly recommend that you meet Kristin and schedule an evaluation and start on a personalized exercise program to help you reach your desired goals. And then maintain the program. She will motivate you too. Good luck!

I've had 4 different trainers in the past 5 years (due to moving) and I couldn't be happier with our work outs. We do a mix of circuit training and strength routines which really reduces my stress and helps tone me. I'm so glad I found her and hope someone else chooses Kristen when looking for a great personal trainer.

The gym itself is pretty nice--good location, fun classes, and staff WERE friendly (not when you want to cancel). At the first notice that I may want to cancel, the trainer I was paired up with immediately became cold towards me. It was incredibly unnerving. I won't share her name as I don't believe she was really all that bad, but I will share that Aliceson is one of the most cruel and callous people I've ever had to deal with in my life. To be honest, I felt judged by her from the start, but I brushed it off. However, that intuition was spot on. I've been going through a very difficult time in my life post-COVID, and I can easily say that signing up for this gym in 2021 is something I sincerely regret, and am somehow still haunted by that decision because of this gym's awful payment system and extremely unhelpful customer service. It took months to even try to cancel my membership, and I even ended up paying in full! They will ensure you are humiliated in your decision to cancel by forcing you to come in person, unless you've moved 15 miles away or have a medical note stating you cannot come in. After paying IN FULL, they charged me month after month and now it's 2023, almost 2 years later, and somehow they are still trying to charge me! I would do anything to go back and never sign up for this gym, seriously, if you expect to ever have anything come up in your life at any point, DO NOT sign up here. Please, spare yourself. And to Aliceson, you were beyond rude and insensitive to me and my family's situation and I literally hope I never have to see or hear from you again. Ps. The spelling of your name is f***ing ridiculous.

There is also plenty of street parking if you are worried about where to go. When you first enter it may feel like you are walking into the middle of the spin class but you are not. This was my first barre class ever and it was perfect for starters. Fun class with great music! There was only 2 of us and the instructor so it felt like a private session. It's a great workout and I'm sure tomorrow I will be feeling sore. Thanks for a great class, I will definitely be back!

She has a talent for staffing as the entire fitness staff is engaged before, during and after each class, with no monkeying around. These instructors mean business. I am a motivated gym and running rat, but these folks make my other workouts seem subpar. The space is super clean with a great warm atmosphere. My wife loves the Barre classes. They partner with a local farmer's market in making organic juices. I haven't had one, but they look great and seem to fly off the shelf. We always leave feeling like we are part of the family(and beat up from the workout!). Can't say enough about the great energy and Alli's experience regarding fitness and health knowledge. We wish Chestnut Hill Cycle Fitness much success!
