Perhaps this review will carry a bit more weight, my being a physician. I just finished my Medicare-covered sessions of PT for my back with Brian Esherwick, who is, simply put, excellent. I've had experience with two other PT's over the years, and Brian is far superior. His creation and implementation of my exercise program was challenging, fun and effective. My interest was retained by his switching up of various exercises. He implemented a phased plan - easy at first, becoming gradually more challenging. I can't recommend him highly enough. He's a consumate professional, personable, and possesses a good sense of humor. read more

I started coming here for some lower back pain, and was put with Rebecca Wilder. She's also from CA and a former athlete, so I immediately felt comfortable with her. She was able to quickly assess what was going on with me, so some adjustments on my back, and created a workout plan to help strengthen some of the muscles that were lacking after months of being home all the time. The facility feels very COVID-safe with temp checks when you come in, and only a limited number of people in the area at a time. Everything that is touched by one patient is marked as "dirty" and required to be wiped down before being used again. Every time I have been there a door has been open to increase airflow and, of course, everyone wears a mask. I spent 6 weeks coming 1-2x a week and can now say my back feels so much better! It's great to have some at home exercises to help if it ever starts hurting again. read more

Balanced Chiropractic & Physical Therapy is outstanding! I suffered a spinal burst fracture which was extremely painful during the initial healing process. I received a very thorough assessment by Dr. Sarafina Wimpf as well as Physical Therapist Brian. Both of these competent & personable persons planned out a twice weekly P.T. & Chiropractic therapies that proved extremely helpful in reducing the chronic pain from the fracture. Within several weeks of therapies (P.T. & Chiro) the pain diminished & I was on the road to recovery with the fracture healed & near pain free living. I've been dealing with chronic back pain for about a year. I had seen several other chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists with no long term relief. In less than 2 months with Dr. Wipf at Balance I finally feel back to normal and have a better understanding of my own back and how to treat it. The staff at Balance are so friendly, scheduling is a breeze, and their treatment style is incredible. Dr. Wipf's adjustments were spot on but she also created an easy-to-follow PT plan, guiding me through different exercises in each session. Treating chronic pain takes a partnership and Dr. Wipf was receptive to my concerns and ideas; adjusting the treatment plan as other issues were uncovered. After being bounced around from doctor to doctor over the course of 6 months, I had basically given up on ever finding a cause or cure for my headaches besides popping a few Tylenol. Then a friend persuaded me to give Balanced Chiropractic a try and I figured I had nothing left to lose. 2 months since starting treatment, I have been 100% headache free for about 6 weeks. Dr. Spillman took a lot of time to listen to my initial complaints and has tweaked my treatment every visit based on how I'm feeling. He also has me work out with him once per week after my adjustment and I can tell that I'm growing stronger already, which will help keep me on the right track and prevent my headaches from returning. I was referred by a coworker to see Bryan for persistent pain in my shoulder. After a few weeks of strength exercises and at home therapy, my shoulder pain went away! We then started physical therapy on my chronic back pain that had started after a work injury many years ago. Update nearly a year after my last review: I'm still doing really well! I'm currently pain free. I did had a couple set-backs that were due to me doing too much too soon, but I am still making great progress. Dr. Spillman has helped me to isolate muscle weaknesses and underlying causes/habits of movement and posture that contributed to my injury and setbacks. He's assigned exercises to help correct these things, and through those exercises and his advice I am seeing lots of improvement and increase in functionality without re-injury. I still check in with him every few weeks or so. I have to say, too, that Dr. Spillman is a very compassionate physician who is a very good coach and encourager. I've had personal trainers belittle me for my physical weaknesses - Dr. Spillman has never even hinted at anything negative. He only ever demonstrates commitment to helping me grow stronger and healthier. If you are easily frustrated or discouraged with physical therapy then he'd be the one I'd tell you to call. read more

**UPDATE** I can honestly say I have been unable to find a chiropractor with half of Dr. Spillman's knowledge and skills, and I will fully admit to making the drive from DC on multiple occasions. I can assure you the benefits of treatment are completely worth the drive. It's genuinely astonishing how easily he performs adjustments; adjustments that completely elude other chiropractors. In fact, I was in a car accident while in Tennessee this past May and I debated flying halfway across the country for his treatment. If circumstances had allowed it, I would have done so in a heartbeat. (It's worth mentioning my life is a bit crazy and family emergencies have required my relocation to various states for extended periods of time, during which, I have sought treatment from many other providers with little luck.) His commitment to quality treatment over profits remains obvious and he has restored my faith in chiropractic treatment on more than one occasion. More importantly, his honesty and encouragement have helped me remain proactive and engaged in my own treatment, which is incredibly important! Dr. Eng was excellent in helping me cure my knee issues. I went in after dealing with uncomfortably loud knee grinding whenever I bent or exercised for 6 months, and after 1 session it was infinitely improved. She gave me exercises to do and I continue to notice improvement while seeing her once a week. She explains everything she does in understandable terms and is overall just very friendly and approachable! She also offered a back adjustment and was very clear on additional costs/what insurance does and does not cover. The office is nice but a bit hard to find, although they do have a Keurig and very friendly receptionists. Being a CrossFitter and Obstacle Course Racer, I find myself very focused on healing methods that allow me to continue training and pursuing my passions without excessive recovery time. Dr Spillman understands, first hand, that training and healing don't have to be mutually exclusive. So pleased with my experience doing physical therapy with Bryan Esherick at Balanced. I came in dealing with chronic pain in my Achilles tendon from a sports injury. PT with Bryan often felt more like a gym level workout with a personal trainer more than physical therapy. He worked closely with me to not only get me walking comfortable again but to a level I felt confident under sports like conditions. A recommendation by a mutual friend brought me to Balance when I had been diagnosed with a sciatica problem by my doctor. Brian started my treatment and during my initial exam caught neurological symptoms my doctor had missed indicating a much more serious problem. Had he not done such a thorough job I could have gone on with my nerve pain for years and done permanent damage to my spinal cord. Before Dr. Spillman, I had never been to a chiropractor. I came to him with some shoulder pain and numbness in my hand relating to an ulnar neuropathy and he patiently listened to my symptoms and came up with solutions that worked. The numbness is gone. The pain in my shoulder is gone. Although I have to spread the credit between him, my GP and my physical therapist, I can credit him with being an important part of my recovery. He even came to my workspace to give me some suggestions as to how to make it more ergonomically streamlined to prevent further injury. Although I have no chiropractic experiences that I can compare him to, I can say he is one of the best health practitioners I've ever been to. read more

Sam is fantastic. I've been a few times and each time boy did I need help! I couldn't walk, once because of a sprained ankle and later because my back locked up. Both times Sam had me on my feet THAT DAY. A couple of follow-up treatments later and I was good as new. I have sent friend after friend to him and everyone loves him; he's careful, thoughtful, attentive, and cares about each individual person and their needs. He wants to help you get to your goals, not his. Oh, and you will get none of this "come see me every month for eternity" garbage that some shysters practice. By the time I was done with PT I was back to running my normal routes, and understood a lot more about what had caused my initial injury. I re-injured my left ankle two weeks ago due to over-usage and because of over-compensating for a bad cut I had on my right leg which made walking incredibly painful. I had planned two beach vacations for the month of July and was heartbroken when I resolved to the idea of potentially canceling them to avoid further injury. I mentioned this to Dr. Spillman in passing and he assured me (I had doubts) that I would be okay for the beach (as long as I took it a little easier than normal). Four half-hour visits later and I was walking normally without pain. I was able to enjoy my vacations and my ankle feels better than it has in years. You don't have to live with pain...
