We had nachos with traditional toppings and then had to add hot and spicy sauce for the brisket portion, so nachos that were bbq'd. can't make that crap up. Good selection of beers and they have golf simulators. It's a win win. Where else can you buy buckets of pull tabs? Our table seen $50 and won $200, we were happy and dinner was paid. I really wanted to like Baldy's. I really did. We just got takeout and right away it was clear that on the ribs and brisket combo, I was not receiving fresh food. The brisket was dry, grainy and had seen a microwave at some point. This was my biggest disappointment. The tips were dry in the way that the top part of the pork was crunchy when you pulled the ribs apart. The beans were good as were the sauces, but they did not even come close to saving this sadly disappointing meal. So I'm not sure what I am missing here. We came here a couple weeks ago to have some BBQ. The place is pretty large with an open concept and a huge bar attached. One thing to note right off the bat is that the building isn't in the best of shape. Lots of holes in the walls and paint chipping off. Usually I don't mind the atmosphere of the place if the food and staff are OK but...well here we go. First off, the staff was almost all teenagers and it was blatantly obvious by the bad service. Our waitress came to take our order and bring out the food. That was it, no drink refills, no checkups, nothing. This stinks because I would have liked more water to choke down my dry food. Now on the food which isn't much to sing praises about. This has to be some of the worst BBQ I have had for some time. I don't know if we just had a bad night or what. We tried the three meat sampler and I tried the BBQ Rib Tips. I will break down everything on what we thought. Rib Tips - Awful. They were burnt to a crisp and dry,dry, dry. If you are a Worst Chef in America fan, celebrity judge Ann Burnelle would exclaim these are "dddrrryyyy!!!" They were just downright depressing to eat. Famous Dave's is a chain and they have MUCH better rib tips. Pulled Pork and Brisket - Why is it cold? I know that you smoke this stuff before you serve it but why is it cold in the middle? It wasn't even luke warm. The brisket and pulled pork were also dry! Is it because we are being served old stuff? C'mon guys. Sausage - eh. Ok. French Fries and Cheddar Corn Bake - These were the only saving grace to this meal. The fries were great. Crisp and crunchy while the corn bake was creamy and cheesy. But I didn't drop over $40 for French fries and creamed cheesy corn. Baked Beans - They had a unique taste that wasn't bad but wasn't to our liking. Corn Bread - They tried to be different than just plain cornbread but it ended up tasting like super dry gingerbread. Not even our daughter who loves cornbread touched this. Sauces - Bottled like they are made in house. They do not taste like they are. I am pretty sure these are industrial sized sauces that are just put into the "homemade" bottles. Final Verdict - We will pass and go somewhere else. There are plenty of other places to go. read more

My wife and I put in our orders - I got the Wednesday lunch special of the Sloppy Chick Sandwich and fries, my wife got the wings, and we split orders of green bean fries and fried pickles. I'm pretty bummed. I've lived in Lakeville my entire life. I've heard of Baldy's from many people but never tried it. My husband really wanted to try it last night so I said sure. Our server was fantastic: 10/10. Wish we got her name, she was younger. We got the fried pickles for an app. Love that they're spears. It came with what I think is a chipotle ranch? Wasn't very a good pairing. 7/10 I got the brisket platter. Brisket was dry, and appeared to just be microwaved. Fries were good. Coleslaw was cold, and crunchy - YUM. But had 0 flavor. Cornbread was dry. Rate my dish 5/10. Husband got the pulled pork and 1/4 rack of ribs, fries and baked beans. Pulled pork was good but boring. Ribs were better than the pulled pork but the same "boring" experience. Baked beans he said tasted like chili. Was looking for more of a bbq experience. Rated his dish 6/10. This place is the bomb. I've tried the ribs, pulled pork and brisket. Wow! All three were awesome. I haven't found decent BBQ since moving here from Houston eight years ago but this place addresses that. The brisket was tender, perfect smoked flavor and great bark. It was cut thick (as it should but seldom is) and a generous portion. The pulled pork was flavorful and tender. The ribs were perfectly smoked; bark was perfect. The green beans had great flavored and fresh. BBQ beans were great and well as the fries. Wish it was closer to the twin cities but it's well worth the drive. We were in Lakeville around lunchtime and decided we'd stop at whatever place caught our attention. We saw the sign for Baldy's and we gave it a shot. We both tried the pulled pork sandwich. The meat was good. It was moist and flavorful, also all good quality without any big lumps of fat or anything. For a sides we chose the cheesy corn bake and the Mac & cheese. The corn was awesome. The Mac was OK, not sure if it was worth the upcharge. The sauces were all good- a regular, a sweet, and a spicy. We asked around for a Texas style BBQ place and Baldy's came up with high marks from neighbors. We have family in Texas and THIS is not Texas BBQ. The service for take out was very pleasant and the food was ready and hot. 5 stars there. We ordered the brisket sandwich, one of the burgers and Blazin Hot wings. The brisket was NOT moist or tender, zero stars. It was straight up sliced steak. The burger was not a good flavor and if anything was dry and bland, 1 Star. I didn't finish either one. The pulled brisket was slathered in BBQ sauce and still dry for brisket, 1 Star. The Blazin wings (my husband says 4 stars simply because he was shocked with the fact that they were indeed Blazin; but prefers that they not be "holy cr@p these are killing me" spicy) were too spicy to taste anything after the first few bites and my husband loves spicy wings. He would not reorder. Well done for rudely being Blazin hot and meaning it. After all the great reviews we were extremely disappointed and will not be trying this again; I think it's the first time we've ever thrown out BBQ. Maybe if you haven't had real Texas (or Carolina) BBQ you think this is what it's suppose to taste like - it is not. I would say the cornbread and beans were good. And at the price point we paid for this, I would expect a lot more. I don't write this review lightly. Disclaimer: I am from Oklahoma so I have high standards for BBQ. I have been looking forward to eating here for 6 months. I finally was in the area at lunch time. I ordered the Jr. Right Combo. 1/4 rack of ribs and choice of meat and 2 sides. I chose brisket, potato salad and slaw. With a drink it was $20!! Portions are good. Potato salad is decent but they put sugar in it. More than one two bites is enough. The slaw has celery in it. I have never had that before and I do not like celery so I did not eat it. Cornbread is also cooked with sugar. It's okay but this is way too much sugar. I always put the sauce on the side so I can taste the meat. I am pretty sure the meat is not seasoned or SMOKED. Not much flavor at all. Brisket is dried out and ribs are served dry and have a little juice but are close to being over cooked. The brisket tastes more like roast beef. :( The sauce is a thick ketchup based sauce and is decent. Definitely the highlight of the meal. I had high hopes for this place as it looks cool and is packed. I have to keep reminding myself that Minnesotans are not used to real BBQ so on a Minnesota scale it is probably a 3. Oklahoma a 1.
