I've heard so much about Aling Lucing's restaurant and decided to come by and check it out. You…read moreknow its good when they are busy and there is a wait to be seated. The restaurant itself is a decent size, more of a hole in the wall type place. The staff are nice and move fairly quickly with our orders and getting our food. The food was delicious. We ordered the crispy kare kare, dinaguan, sizzling sisig, (which they are known for) and everything was good! The only reason why I did not give a 5 star rating is because of the cramped spaces and tendency for bugs:s/flies coming in since the restaurant is open and not enclosed. But for the food, its worth it.

The original Sisig lives up to the hype. The sizzling platter comes with the mixed bits of fat and…read morepig parts, it's an amazing combination. Even better when adding some Calamansi and a bowl of rice. It was the best Sisig I have ever had. The lechon kawali at Aling Lucing is solid as well. My biggest beef with this restaurant is they don't have half the items on the menu. The bulaklak chicharon wasn't available. The Kate-Kare wasn't available. I imagine it's hard to run a business without having half the menu. Fortunately they had the namesake Sisig. Overall food was good but whoever is in charge of the restaurant food ingredients needs help.

Food quality did not disappoint, we started with the Trianggulos which was smoked fish flakes (Tina pa) with pili nuts and spinach fried samosas style dipped into a garlic sofrito. Creative and flavorful. Must have is the Bagnetta which was artfully presented and the crispy pork belly was mouth wateringly good. The talangka rice with crispy crablets was a great pairing to the Bagnetta. I liked mine with lots of calamansi. The pancit Lucban was very tasty and the coco vinegar enhanced the flavor. We also had the gising gising (string beans in spicy coconut milk), this was just ok for me. It could have been better with a more reduced sauce but still good. The balo balo which was fried catfish with a side of assorted local vegetables and served with fermented rice and shrimp was a delight to the palette. Perhaps the only negative review we would have is that it took 50 minutes for our food to arrive ( granted it was a Sunday and there was another group of 16 being served same time as us) the wait staff kept on forgetting little things we were asking for like ice and our drinks. The hostess saved the day and was very pleasant and was apologetic for the wait. Waiting does not really bode well for hungry travelers) All in all the food was great, just some tweaks to the service and this place would get a perfect score. All jn all

We often walk through Fields Walking Street to get to Balibago; however, we avoid it at night and on weekends because of the, let's say, colorful night life. We were having breakfast at Brettos, when Hubby spots a sign across the street advertising Baram's all day Filipino Silog (your choice of protein served with a fried egg and rice) breakfast specials. We're always looking out for cheap breakfast deals, so next day we're back. From the outside this place look very unassuming, like a hole in the wall type joint. Walk in and your eyes are drawn to these two massive faux sakura trees decorating their dining room. We settled down in one of their cozy half booths. Even though we were there for the cheap P99 breakfast, we still got their complimentary refillable banchan AND complimentary iced coffee with one refill OH YEAH! Their breakfasts are filling and come with an egg and delicious Java (sticky) rice. We had their cornsilog (corned beef) and tapsilog (tapa - cured beef); both were flavorful, tapa was tender but the corned beef was oily. Banchan (side dishes) were delish! The kimchi was too potent for me; but hubby enjoyed it. If you ask for hot sauce, you'll get chili oil. If you want something quick, you'll want to order their soups. Friendly, hard working staff that come immediately when you hit the call bell, raise your hand, or call out. Place is roomy, clean, with a strong aircon, free WiFi and a fully stocked bathroom. Modern Filipino music playing in the background (heard a couple cool rap songs), sometimes it's pop music. This is THE BEST place for a Filipino style breakfast. TIP - come during the week day mornings to avoid the night crowd from the red light district.
